im not the only one with a baby feeding every 3 hours then although hes kinda changed to 2 hours
went to bed last night but couldnt disturb hem(was scared too[blush}, so me and dp got a cuddle as lo wasn't in the bed for a change

tasha21 · 26/11/2007 11:42

anybody else using reusable nappies? ive a bucket full to wash. and they seem to be huge and bulky. the kids have broken sky, dont know what they have done to it so they are trying to help tidy but just making more mess. ffs its gonna be one of those days.........actually, seem to be having alot of those

tasha21 · 26/11/2007 11:49

now ds2 has a big dirty bum and his are monstrus compared to ds3 lol tell me to shut up and stop complaining!

conkertree · 26/11/2007 11:54

i have a big bucket to wash too - and a house to tidy. had ds's baptism yestrday with a we party in th church hall afterwards, then people back to the house, so quite a lot to do this week, but am going to do it a little bit at a time rather than try and get it all done in one day.

ds is teething too james but the teething gel does seem to help him a bit, and have found that dh's finger seems to go down as well as a boob in his mouth when he just wants to suck which means i can get off the sofa occasionally.

meant to say more but he's just woken up. oh well the peac was nice while it lasted.

shrinkingsagpuss · 26/11/2007 12:28

I got a nice free thingy from Bounty - in the "family" pack I think - its a bongela chewy thing, you stick it on your finger, and it massages the baby's gums... not that Evie is there yet.

I use cotton nappies too - I try and stay on top of washing them - every 1 1/2 days usually, before they smell too much. It is hard at this ime fo year isn't it? the extra washing and drying. I'm very lucky that we have the rayburn for easy drying.

James - you say he's not ready for food - lots of babies really are ready at 16 weeks (is he really a whole 2 weeks older than evei? Blimey) - obvously you know him better, and I know what you mean about the tongue thrust thing. I have tried Evie on baby rice, she really was not remotely interested. Now we are waking her at 10.30 (dream feed my arse she ahs to be awake and screaming for me to be able to get enough food into her) she is only waking once at about 5, which I can live with for a bit longer.

Well I've been at work for 3 1/2 hours and I'm already skiving on mn. Although, technically I am entitled to a break so I don't feel that guilty. I really don't feel as bad as I expected to but I'm still not pleased to be here. Nothing's really changed, only faces, so I don't have that much to catch up with. I'm glad I've got xmas to look forward to or I'd been quite depressed. It cheered me up that everybody has said how pleased they are to have me back, especially because my replacement was so unreliable.

Yesterday ds decided to have his first ever 'scream on and off for 2 hours'. I think he had a tummy ache as his usual 'lellow poo' (as dd calls it) was very green. I gave him 2 lots of calpol (by the way does anyone give the full 5ml yet?) and then he was better. But he only wanted mummy and was only happy when I had him upright with me standing up which nearly broke my back (I reckon he's getting on for 16lb now). Then dd decided she only wanted mummy and she was really tired which made things worse and I was almost in tears. Ds has never cried like that before. To make matters worse we were at my mum's and, because of all this, we didn't get home til 10, so I didn't get to bed til 11:15. Ds decided he was going to wake up almost every hour. At 3:20 I gave up trying to get him back to sleep in the cot and put him in bed with me. I am soooo tired. I'm used to being woken up by one of the dcs around 7 or 7:30 but I now have to set the alarm for 6!

Mum phoned earlier to say that dd was calling for me through the front door I thought she'd be ok considering I have to drag her out of mum's when I pick her up normally.

Anyway, I've gone on enough. How is everyone? Hope the christening went well conker.

tasha21 · 26/11/2007 12:55

o dear gill i hope it gets easier for you, and im sure it will. its nice to have a bit of independence.
lo isn't even aloud 2.5ml yet so not looking forward to his second lot of injections on wednsday.
shrinking i done them all last night and already they have piled up again

tasha21 · 26/11/2007 12:56

o and ds1 watching tv, ds2 napping, ds3 napping, mummy sitting having coffee pure bliss just as ds1 shouts wipe my bum

GillL · 26/11/2007 15:31

Thanks tasha.

I can't even cope with the regular washing, let alone nappies too.

Enjoy it while it lasts tasha. I bet it doesn't happen very often. Normally when ds is asleep I have dd badgering me to play with her. The tv doesn't keep her occupied for long.

tasha21 · 26/11/2007 16:17

gill- doesn't happen very offten, trying to do dinner here and ds3 wants held and ds1+2 are fighting over cars

tasha21 · 26/11/2007 16:23

cant get the bloody jar of sauce open!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 26/11/2007 16:28

Hi, glad you're doing ok back at work Gill, it'll be christmas before you know it, anyway. I'm still giving James 2.5ml of calpol for the moment because it's teething pain (and he seems to need it daily) so I figure 2.5ml and some bonjela will take the edge off the pain without loading him up with loads of paracetamol every day.

Tasha- I still don't know how you do it, I never seem to be able to get much done and I've only got the one, you just must never stop!

Sagpuss, I know some babies welcome food at 16 weeks but we're going to be doing blw so we need to wait til he can sit up by himself before trying it. It's not such a bad idea for us to wait anyway because some people think it helps to stop allergy prone children getting so many allergies, and what with dp and I both having asthma, hayfever, and eczema, and me with various other allergies (latex, guinea pigs, flea products etc) poor little mite needs as much help as he can get! I'm scared he'll have to live in a bubble otherwise!

I'm thinking of going to Slimming World tonight. (I know I said this a few weeks ago too but I need to get off my arse and do something)

tasha21 · 26/11/2007 16:30

got it was near crying there

tasha21 · 26/11/2007 16:34

james- i dont stop the only reason i post on here so much is because i keep the lap top which is in the kitchen on all day to keep me sane also have mum on istant messanger. well dinner is on lo has give up wanting a gug and is asleep in his car seat on kitchen table got close eye on him wat with the other too hyperactive boys running about

tasha21 · 26/11/2007 16:35

hug

tasha21 · 26/11/2007 16:47

o and james if you feel your lo isn't ready for solids then he's not theres no ifs or buts about it

shrinkingsagpuss · 26/11/2007 17:16

I'm not trying to push you into something you or JAmes isn't ready for - and i think the blw sounds interesting (I'll be honest and say I feel safer with a bit of slop to start with personally - but thats me) - but in terms of carbohydrate intake rice and oats are good sources for a small baby - rice is about as non- allergenic as you can get (oats is a bit mroe dodgy). On the subject of allergies - I will stick my neck out here and say that there is a lilne of thought that says the converse is true - by not exposing babies to potential allergens it does not give their immune system a chance to develop a tolerance - and therefore in our "super clean" world of discenfectant sprays etc, babies don't get exposed to stuff. This is all easy for me to say - DH and I have skin like rhinos and aren't allergic to anything - and I understand why you might want to be extra careful.

oh enough waffling. There are no easy answers, and as with so many of these things, you have to follow you instinct and sod everyone else!!!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 26/11/2007 23:01

Ooh, I didn't feel like anyone was pushing anything, don't worry! I think we know this thread is a bit of a haven away from the intense weaning/breastfeeding vs bottlefeeding/reusable nappies vs disposable Mumsnet chestnuts! (they've all been done to death anyway)

Had a hideous evening with James, his teeth must really be sore, he was screaming so hard he made himself choke a bit. I gave him 5ml of calpol, lots of dentinox, tried to cool him down with a damp flannel etc but he just screeched the house down, I got upset too, I've never seen him in pain like that before, it was horrible.

I did go to slimming world in the end, it took nearly two hours and I'd told dp to come in since I thought we wouldn't be long, so he spent the last hour of the meeting pacing with James on his shoulder.

Off to bed now, I'm knackered. xxx

GillL · 27/11/2007 10:11

Day 2 at work and it already feels normal to me now and I'm not feeling bad about it. It helps that dd let me leave mum's without any fuss this morning. Let's hope she goes into playschool without crying. I used a bit of emotional blackmail and told her that if she cries then she will make nanny cry (she's very concerned about everyone being happy at the moment). She agreed that wouldn't be nice. Mum's got enough on her plate at the moment with my nephew who cries going into school every day because his teacher is horrible. He's only 6 and she shouts at them and insults them.

Evenings are going to be packed now. I left work at 4:30 and, apart from eating dinner I just about managed to sit down at about 9:45pm. As soon as I got in after picking the dcs up I started dinner, ate dinner, did washing up, fed ds, put the kids to bed, did the washing and then watched the last 15 minutes of Dragons Den. Dh helps out a bit but doesn't go out of his way. He would much rather watch the tv and leave a massive pile of washing up for the weekend.

Ds slept much better last night. I put him to bed at 8:30 (earliest so far) and he woke up coughing at about 4am. This lasted about 10 minutes and I couldn't keep my eyes open so he ended up in bed with me again. Then the alarm went off at 6

GillL · 27/11/2007 10:17

I worry about being too clean. I used to take dummies away from ds if they fell on the floor but for weeks now he just gets them back with the fluff removed. I was going to stop sterilising now but mum has agreed to keep 3 bottles at her house and wash and sterilise them every day so now I only have 2 per day it is much easier. I'll stop around 6 months though.

BTW - Ds rolled over for the first time last night. Previously he got up onto his side and tried to get his leg over (if you pardon the expression) but this time he got his leg onto the floor. His arm was in the way so he couldn't get flat on his tummy but he wouldn't know what to do when he got there anyway.

My2Weegirls · 27/11/2007 10:25

hi everyone - don't know if i'll get a chance to catch up - DD1 s at playgroup and dd2 is still fast asleep but due to wake up very soon.

from what i've skim read

conker hope the christening went well

gill - hope being back at work is ok (like the idea of a return to work bonus!). do you think that DS picked up vibes from you tht you were going back to work?

tasha - you amaze me too with what you seem to get done

james - poor wee thing, though it's doping him up more have you tried baby neurofen as well as calpol? and sometimes taking them out for a drive is enough to settle them (if you've got a car obviously).

i gave in and put DD2 into 6-9months (she's only 16 weeks today!) sleepsuits as my friend asked if she was gong to be a guisha girl since her feet were so scrunched up (kept putting it off as she's harldy worn most of the 3-6month).

conkertree · 27/11/2007 10:42

hi everyone - christening went well thanks - was really good to see everybody too as lots of family and friends came.

james - i know its no consolation to you, but in some ways when i come on here, your posts make me feel better cause our two los seem to be having the same things happening to them at the same time. had a rally bad night last night.

thought we'd try some skin to skin since it seems to calm newborns down and it was great. ds went off to sleep really calmly at 8.30. dh and i watched a film and went to bed about 10. just getting off to sleep at 10.30 when ds woke up. did all the usual things but nothing would soothe him. cried on and off till midnight when i took him into bed and he still wasnt totally happy then which he usually is.

one of those nights where i just didnt know what else i could do with him.

my2weegirls - your ds2 must be very long is she? I know she is high up the centiles for weight. ds is getting that way too but i think we have a couple more weeks in th 3-6 sleepsuits. its funny cause he fits most 3-6 month clothes fine, and still doesnt fit into some of the outfits. maybe the sleepsuits are made smaller than other clothes.

sounds like you have a lot on your plate tasha and gill - i fel like i do, but then i read your posts and fel guilty for being tired.

anyway - sorry another long post. hope you all have good days.

tasha21 · 27/11/2007 10:50

hiya just read back i really didnt mean that the way it sounded, im a complete airhead when it comes to putting wat im thinking into writing[blush}
gill-so happy its getting easier for you, im non stop after i get the kids to bed too its crap cause dp could sit in a big mess but i just couldnt relax. and of your job, cant wait till this course starts it will hopefully stop my brain turning to mush.
james i have ds2 teething at the mo so very glad i havent got it with ds3 yet, ds2 is getting up through the night now reminder to self must get calpol, bonjella.
lo skipped his 7 oclock feed last night and just woke at his normal feeds must change that to his 3 oclock feed.
i believe that clean dirt is good for building a imune system too, but wouldnt stop sterilizing yet as ds1 got thrush in his mouth when he was a baby which interfered with his feeding, i think that was due to sterilizing. well im off to do something.

My2Weegirls · 27/11/2007 11:01

yeah - she is v long (she was 99.9 centile for both length and weight 4 weeks ago) - she was 64cm at 8 weeks (hv had to measure twice as she didn't believe it. dd1 was that length at 22 weeks!?! her 3-6 month trousers are like capri trousers on her.

my friends mum used to disinfect everything all the time - toys etc. if a toy was dropped on the floor is was put in milton to be cleaned. and my friend now gets every bug that's going which we all think is due to her mums constant cleaning - so that's my excuse for not always getting round to doing the housework

shrinkingsagpuss · 27/11/2007 11:04

My2weegirls - DD is nearly ou of 3-6 month sleep suits too!! Her feet are so huge they only just squeeze in. I'm not sure of her height or weight (I'll do it eventually) but you're not alone!!

Must get off computer and do some housework!!
