o another one lol when ds1 was a baby i was up at mums and i changed his bum, mum pointed out that his toe was in his eye i was probably doing it every time

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 24/11/2007 18:48

LOL at poor Tasha's ds1 with his toe in his eye. Being a new mum is a steep learning curve!! James weed in his eye once.

God that one with the falling TV is scary, I dread things like that happening. We had a near miss when he was newborn with a full 2litre bottle of fabric conditioner I kept on top of the freezer next to his changing mat. I pulled down a packet of nappies and knocked the bottle. It fell off and landed with a crash an inch from his face. I shrieked and my legs went weak with fear, it was horrible. I know accidents do happen but I'm dreading his first topple down the stairs/trapped finger.

We went to visit family today and saw my great nephew who is 9 1/2 months. He's HUGE and crawling/saying mama. Hard to believe James'll be like that in a matter of months. He's into everything, his mum says she can't turn her back for a moment. Not looking to that aspect of him getting older.

stigofthedump · 24/11/2007 19:49

Tash and james, lol/gasp at your near misses. Its amazing we have managed to keep them alive. We had one, erm ... when we went for a weekend in a caravan when she was 6 weeks, uming and ahing about where to put her in her moses basket, not with ds cos he'd wake her up, not in living room, too cold, not in corridor, too near outside door and gas cupboard, next to bed too narrow, so put her at the end of our bed. First time I woke to feed her, realised our quilt had edged down the bed and was hanging about an inch away from her face! OMG.

pinkrangernowwobbles · 24/11/2007 23:10

we all do it! when ds1 was 6 months old he hadnt mastered rolling over he was laying on the bed , i was sitting there straightening my hair hair, all of a sudden a just see an arm and leg go of the bed lots of tears but gave him a breadstick in his walker and he soon smiled, His 5 now so his survived but things still happen!!

Uki · 25/11/2007 03:44

LOL James, although really shouldn't laugh
I often forget to be gentle and watch what i'm doing, too hard with all the multi tasking to actually think first!!!
Oh I forgot to tell you what I do, I paint and do mosaics, ATM well last two years I've been doing more mosaics than painting, as easier to stop and start. I do murals and have been busy making small things for art fair next week, although also teaching a 4 day workshop to teenagers. Ds likes to help, he is quite good with colour.

Tasha - i want to get a baby walker too, I'm looking at them on ebay.

tasha21 · 25/11/2007 12:01

yea def ive had a few insidents when ds1+2 have fell off bed and wee in eye think all little boys do it.
i got my baby walker rocker off ebay have a look at them rather than just being a walker you can put thingys on the wheels and turns into a rocker then there is a thing that you can put across the bottom if you dont want them to move which is good for feeding i fed ds2 more in the walker but i got it for 18pound then 10pound postage and packaging which is really good.
didn't get much sleep last night lo was up for 3 hours at 3.30am think i was too tierd to figure out wat was wrong with him so kept shoving the bottle in his mouth im a very very bad mummy!

tasha21 · 25/11/2007 12:02

uki wat you doing on the net at that time?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 25/11/2007 12:52

I think babies know when you're tired and decide to have a bad night. I was exhausted last night, so J woke at 2.30 when I was in a deep sleep. It took me a while to get my head together!

Feel a bit sad today, I finally got my period- it sounds stupid but it sortof marks the end of the pregnancy proper (I know the end is when you have your baby, but you know what I mean)

shrinkingsagpuss · 25/11/2007 12:58

Just quickly - a friend of a friend can easily beat all the horror stories..... she haemorraged at home, stood up to put LO in his cot before calling for help, but fainted, dropped the baby and fractured his skull! Luckily both of them are fine, and LO will suffer no long term injuries - but how scary must that have been!

And... evie went from 10.30 til 5.30 today, lovely. feel quite refereshed!

tasha21 · 25/11/2007 13:38

im trying to tidy and the boys are like a tornado behind me! how many times a day do i have to hoover they leave a wee hansel and grettle trail every where they go!!

loler · 25/11/2007 14:07

hello - taken me all week to catch up with everything. Have been very busy trying to do all xmas shopping - managed to get all but one present on line!

Dreading tomorrow as got IL arriving for 3 days. Rang us (first time they have spoken to us since we moved house in JUNE!)on Wednesday to say they were arriving. I really can't stand them!! - Lucky DH feels the same way. DH having to take 2 days off work (even though he's not got much leave left|) - they won't get to see DD or DS1 as they'll be at school and nursery. Can't come to see us at weekend as had to see SIL (who doesn't have a job!) - ohhhhh could carry on ranting for pages.

AND while typing that ds1 has flooded the loo by blocking the sink! DH at work trying to catch up as not in next week. House is a tip beds need making up but going to have to go out or will end up doing nothing but scream at the kids!

DS2 being lovely though even if the sleeping through the night thing was short lived.

shrinkingsagpuss · 25/11/2007 14:56

blumin hek James, just looked at the picture - that's what DS looked like!! DD is nowhere near as big, but she does have impresive thighs, she is about 16lb i think, and DS was nearer 18 at the same age.

More scary is the Mum's tummy - I thought my stretchmarks and funny tummy were bad......

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 25/11/2007 15:24

I sympathise, Loler, I'm having a shit day too. The house is a tip, EVERY job needs doing because we went visiting family yesterday instead of cleaning, my eczema is so bad I can't touch the (massive pile of) washing up because the skin on my fingers is splitting, and can't even wash my hair for the same reason, and I have my dad coming over for dinner in two hours. Plus James is teething and the only way I can stop him crying is to have a boob in his mouth so I can't move off the sofa. So where is dp? outside fannying about with his car radio.

tasha21 · 25/11/2007 15:57

all the messages arent comin up on my screen anybody else havin that probolem? just seen that message james about your friends and her lo thats terrible, the message is gone again

tasha21 · 25/11/2007 16:00

james - men and cars, dp was off yesturday, spent our last 20pound on wires and then spent the day trying to fit a sound system

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 25/11/2007 16:04

Ohhhh you're kidding, Tasha! God, some men are so bloody selfish.

tasha21 · 25/11/2007 16:06

i know and wats more annoying is that they dont see a problem

tasha21 · 25/11/2007 21:25

lately lo has been feeding 3oz every 2 hours rather than 3 so i got all excited there when he drank 6!! but then he brought it all back up again on dp, think i forced it too much in the hope he would get into a better routine

tasha21 · 25/11/2007 21:45

ok might sound silly but should i give him another one since he threw that one up?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 25/11/2007 22:26

We had this the other night, he thre up 12oz all over me I just gave him 2oz so he had something in his belly, and then gave him a dreamfeed at about midnight when I was going to bed. (Offered him a bottle whilst he was asleep - they drink without waking up and it makes them sleep longer)

Hmm. I should mention that I've only been able to do dreamfeeds with him in the last month, before that he wouldn't wake up, so you might not be able to do it with your little one.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 25/11/2007 22:28

Duh, I meant to say "before that he wouldn't drink because he was too deeply asleep" not "before that he wouldn't wake up"

the objective is to get them to have a feed without waking up.

tasha21 · 25/11/2007 22:44

lol, thanks ill give that a go when im going up to bed i got him to take a dream feed once which was about 2weeks ago so hopefully it works. i got him to take about 20ml lol which isnt alot

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 26/11/2007 10:37

I think J is going through that famous 16 week growth spurt. After a few weeks of sleeping really well, he's suddenly back to waking up twice in the night and eating every three hours instead of four during the day. I'll up his milk to 7oz a feed and see if he settles down again.

Still suffering with teething pains in the afternoon/evening, yesterday his cheeks were bright red and I had to give him calpol again, he doesn't seem to get much relief from teething gels, but then he's got such ferocious suck he probably swallows it before it has a chance to soak into his gums.

In fact that strong suck gave me a scare yesterday. I had made a roast dinner and it smelled nice. Now, while James still has a strong tongue thrust reflex (so I know he doesn't need food yet) he does seem to cry every time I put food out, and I'm beginning to wonder if he can smell it.

So he cried until I sat him on my knee and tried to eat with my left hand. Then he was eyeing my mixed veg and grizzling so on a whim I held a steamed baby carrot to his tongue for him to taste. In the blink of an eye he hoovered the bugger up and it was gone!

(He just sat there looking surprised) I totally panicked and grabbed it out of his mouth quickly, but it scared the pants off me. What an incredibly thick thing to do!
