Hi All,

Thought I’d just start a December 2019 babies thread for those who have given birth in December and want to catchup/chat/rant/need support etc.

We are 11 days in...!
How is everyone doing?

It sounds like she's doing really good though!! Was she up lots in night for dummy before you decided to get rid? Asking cos mine has a dummy and some nights were up every hour plugging the dummy in and I'm knackered. Does she go through without a feed in the night too?

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 24/07/2020 20:29

She normally wakes 3 times in night and I was just giving her the dummy, as it calmed her instantly and I’m right next to her , it was easiest ... but like I said, she’ll outgrow her bedside cot soon, and I don’t want want to have to actually get out of bed 3+ times a night....unless there’s actually something wrong!

She hasn’t needed a feed in the night since about 4 months, except on very rare occasions when she didn’t finish her milk before bed.

We’ve been really lucky!

popgoesperfection · 24/07/2020 20:40

Keep us updated with how each night goes ! I might have to be brave and bite the bullet and get rid of the dummy 😬
Totally agree with the getting out of bed, ds is still next to me but in a cot.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 29/07/2020 17:59

Dummy free is going well 🐱 day naps are now just her having a bit if a fuss, but settling (instead of crying and needing cuddles). Night time, she'll settle herself 9 times out of 20. Have maybe had to ssssh and pat 3 times since I last posted?

Do your little one's recognise words yet? Mine recognises 'kisses', she'll turn her face to you and open her mouth and lean I. To 'kiss' your cheek ...which actually ends up as her sucking in my chin or shoulder😂she seems to recognise 'water' and looks for her water cup 👍
And she definitely recognises 'peek a boo' and gets excited 😃

forevercurious · 04/08/2020 19:50

Is anyone else finding the days just a cycle of trying to fit in naps, milk feeds and 3 meals a day? it’s all I seem to be doing at the moment!

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 04/08/2020 20:04

We only have breakfast for certain... I don't stress or worry about the other meals. If she's awake when I'm having lunch or dinner, then she has some of that.
Some days she'll have three 'meals' others, two, and others just breakfast.

I really don't worry about it tbh.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 10/08/2020 09:25

Wow, so bedtime going to sleep has gone CRAZY these past 3 nights.

DD rolls around and around, cries, screams,
almost falls asleep, but then jolts awake, gets overtired, gets hysterical, can't be calmed. She's literally cried herself to sleep these last few nights 😢

Not sure what happened, she's normally a breeze....We do teeth, nappy and sleep suit (not these past few nights, nappy only 🥵) books, lights off, milk, into sleeping bag,and laid down, kissed goodnight..then within 10mins she's asleep!

But not now!

Hopefully she'll grow out of this phase!!! trying to make sure we don't leave bedtime too late either

Anyone else suffering....?

forevercurious · 12/08/2020 18:38

There’s a sleep regression at 8 months so it could be that! This heat is definitely not helping and our naps have gone to pot - not settling, waking up so frequently etc. He’s becoming harder to settle at bedtime too. For us I think it’s a combination of heat, potentially teething and the regression!

jpaws · 13/08/2020 18:15

We are also having issues getting to sleep. I am hoping its just due to the heat. We put him in his own cot/room tuesday night and last night he slept through 12 hours. The getting to sleep is a nightmare though. Currently taking between 40 mins to an hour & half 😟. He goes to bed when he is tired but just rolls over, sits up and pulls himself up constantly. Really hoping it is just the heat that is causing it.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 14/08/2020 11:05

We had 2 ok nights, went about wrong last night, but not as bad a first few.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 14/08/2020 11:06

Going to sleep that is. Settling through night is good, she does it herself 🤞

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 14/08/2020 11:14

Yeo, rolling over, pulling up, bouncing etc.

I sit her in the cuts for a ten minute bounce, then out her down

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 19/08/2020 09:59

Is anyone else thinking about Birthdays and Christmas?
I'm trying to find a way to mitigate the volume of stuff that might be winging its way to DD in December. I hate too much stuff and clutter. Any ideas? I'm thinking of suggesting a £1 or so for her money box.

Forevercurious · 22/08/2020 16:26

Yes to thinking about birthday and Christmas! Slightly worried about storing everything tbh. A friend with a December toddler has suggested asking some people for a gift for birthday and money for Christmas and then other people money for birthday and gift for Christmas. The money is then spent on summer stuff for the following year. I like the idea but I’m unsure how it would go down in real life - my family would definitely be the but the baby needs something to open from us on both birthday and Christmas!

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 22/08/2020 21:43

We're probably going for 'books or £1'

And see what happens!

Fivebyfive2 · 23/08/2020 07:01

We've been having a think about this too and are thinking of saying similar to @forevercurious. Fully expecting the 'something to open' thing as well 😂

I know my brother wants to get him a villa shirt with 'Joe 1' on it for his birthday 😛

Oooo also, dh are taking him to meet santa on a steam train on his birthday! It's 100% more for me, I am ridiculously excited!

Forevercurious · 23/08/2020 07:38

@Fivebyfive2 oh where are you doing the steam train? That sounds so lovely! I’m hoping grottos etc are allowed to open this year 🤞

Fivebyfive2 · 23/08/2020 07:50

@forevercurious It's at Statfold Barn railway 😀 How are you getting on with sleeping nowadays by the way?? We're actually falling into something resembling a routine, I think the meals are helping to structure the days a bit more? He has 2 or 3 naps a day and recently has started doing 7.30 till 5.30 with 1 or 2 wakes in between, so much better than it used to be. We do still need to get away from feeding to sleep though. I read that making the morning nap short can help with early wakes, but I'm a bit unsure about messing with things just yet.

Forevercurious · 23/08/2020 08:26

@Fivebyfive2 touch wood things are settling down, similar to you from the sounds of it.

We’re on 2 naps a day and he’s usually in bed between 7-8pm. Dream feed when I go to bed, sometimes wakes before this depending on the time. Usually wakes at 1-2ish and then again 5-6ish but I bring him into my bed then for another hour or so.

The broken sleep is still hard and some days his ‘long lunch nap’ is very short but we are surviving! Thanks for asking :) - glad you’re getting somewhere with it too!

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 23/08/2020 21:18

Naps flit between 2/3 this last week normally around an hour. Overnight still getting 10-11hrs, and self settling 9/10 times. 🤞

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 25/08/2020 20:58

Has anyone still not got teeth? DD is not showing any signs of teeth!

But, she is going to be crawling in the next few days!

Forevercurious · 25/08/2020 21:31

In the past week we have had 2 start to pop through out of no where! I had wondered if he was ever going to start teething. oh

Ah crawling is exciting but I’m finding it much harder work as he’s never still now. Good luck!

Teamthree · 26/08/2020 09:46

We didn't have teeth until last Sunday, now she finally has one broken through and another one imminent! Thank goodness because she's been teething for weeks now.

Not getting much further with crawling. She is still just pushing up on her arms and grunting cause nothing's happening 😂

jpaws · 26/08/2020 21:49

My little one has 6 teeth now. Bottom two came through together a while back, just before 6 months I think, and then the four top teeth have come through together in the last 3 weeks . He is crawling all over and pulling himself up on everything now too. It's a whole new ball game, having to move everything out of his reach lol. Last three nights we have also had 12 hours so I am really hoping this stays, I am finally not feeling tired! Has anyone elses naps dropped down? I think he is sleeping so long as he is only having two naps now and yesterday they were only half hour each. Today has been a little longer so will see what time he wakes tomorrow.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 26/08/2020 21:53

Ours still switch between 2 and 3. But I guess it will be three shortly.
