Hi All,

Thought I’d just start a December 2019 babies thread for those who have given birth in December and want to catchup/chat/rant/need support etc.

We are 11 days in...!
How is everyone doing?

@Teamthree, hi! My ds is 3 weeks and 3 days and also protests to being put down to sleep! We're trying different things, swaddling, warming the basket, giving a bottle etc... Some things work some of the time but it's a bit hit and miss and I'd say I'm averaging about 4 hours sleep too 😕 For now I'm thinking of carrying on breastfeeding but giving bottles when out and about. Have you tried your dd on a bottle to compare how the reflux is? Xx

@Comps83, congratulations on your baby! I hope you get a bit more rest soon. Our boy was born 4 weeks early so had to send dh to the shops the day after he was born to stock up on smaller clothes 😂 He's already starting to outgrow some of them too! Did you have a c section or labour? I had a section because he was in a funny position, thankfully am recovering quite well. Don't try to do too much too soon xx

@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps, omg Joe is the opposite! Pretty chilled in the day but when I put him down at night he cries after about 10 mins ☹️ Hopefully they'll get better at settling once a little older?!! Xx

GrannyClanger · 05/01/2020 22:20

Hi all!
Our little boy is 2 weeks old today, and we’re finding the lack of sleep so tough. He’s mostly been sleeping on us, so today we’ve been putting him down in his Moses basket for naps. I’m almost dreading how he will sleep tonight- he hates the bedside crib so far, so I don’t think I’ll be getting much sleep!

TTc2019BabyNo1 · 06/01/2020 04:35

We all sound very similar in that lack of sleep is a common theme 😂!
We’ve mastered sleeping in the Moses basket in the day but the combination of wind and reflux gets her so worked up in the night that she just won’t be put down!

@GrannyClanger we’ve put the Moses basket inside the next to me crib at night as the crib is just far too big.

@Fivebyfive2 yes we have tried lots of things too, swaddling worked the first week but since not at all! I’m still warming the basket with a hot water bottle at night and I’ve put one of my night shirts in the basket too. But at the moment I can’t get her to stop crying long enough to even put her down at night.

@Comps83 yes we ran out of ‘newborn’ size babygrows one night after a feeding and sick marathon! Husband had to pop out the next day to stock up!
I’ve never done so much washing in my life!!

@fivebyfive2 last night we did breastfeed to sleep at 11pm then my partner stayed up with her to let her sleep on him till 1.30am. Then we did bottle feed and in her Moses basket. She went down fine for 10 mins but then showed the usual symptoms of reflux, grunting and tossing and turning around in the basket. Tried another bottle at 5am but the symptoms were still there Sad. She also guzzles the bottle so she sicked quite a bit of it up. Have breastfed so far today and have made her an appointment at the doctors this aft! Hope it helps.
Hope your LO goes down for you soon! It's so hard when you don't even get the chance to try and sleep.

Comps83 · 06/01/2020 14:15

Ah my baby has first doctors appt this afternoon too
They obviously very much priories little babies as I would have been waiting weeks if I wanted an appt Grin
He’s just got a rash round his mouth which I presume is from constant feeding but the midwife said to get an appt today if possible, really doesn’t look that bad to me

Teamthree · 07/01/2020 03:26

@Comps83 hope your drs app went okay! They deffo do prioritise babas don't they, it's great.

We've been prescribed baby gaviscon so hopefully it helps! If not we'll be getting omeprazole on Friday. My poor little sausage is so uncomfortable, we can't put her down on her back at all now. Me and DP are working the nights in shifts so she can be held, I'm on 2am-7am, pray for me.

Anyone else up?

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 07/01/2020 04:45

I’m up zzzzzz

DD just will NOT sleep on her back these past 2 nights.

BF her, she nods off. Wait 20 minutes. Transfer gently to Moses basket. 2 minutes later the fussing begins. Few minutes later, the wailing begins.... and repeat.

I fell asleep with her on my chest twice :(

Goooooooooo tooooooooooo sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

Fivebyfive2 · 07/01/2020 05:21

Hi ladies!

@Comps83, how'd it go at Dr's? Xx

@Teamthree, hope the gaviscon works, are you getting on OK on your shift?? Xx

@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps, that sounds rough!! Any better during the day?? Xx

Joe has been sleeping for about an hour at a time between feeds and changes so I've had a few hours broken up tonight. Not great but better than the previous night.

Anyone looking at Co sleeps?? I really don't want to as it makes me nervous thinking about it, but a few people have mentioned it... Just wondering what your thoughts are? Xx

Spam88 · 07/01/2020 06:04

Alright if I join? :) my little one was 3 weeks on Sunday. Feeding is going well so far - he's far more efficient than his sister was so I'm not spending hours feeding him which is nice! And it's already far less painful than at the start. His latch still isn't perfect but I'm hoping that'll just get better as he gets bigger.

He's a super sleepy baby. If he's not feeding he's sleeping. Until, that is, we try and put him down. He's having none of it. So we're taking it in shifts at the moment (I'm on midnight-6am) but I actually don't know what I'm going to do when DH goes back to work. Thinking about cosleeping. Would really rather not but it's better than accidentally falling asleep with him on me.

Just to make things a bit more difficult, DD is ill so DH has barely slept tonight getting up with her. We're going to be fighting over who gets to go nap today 😂

Comps83 · 07/01/2020 07:04

Doctor just gave us yet another cream . DH said he slept the whole time and had old women cooing over him. He only seems to cry when Im about Sad
Another zero sleep night. I managed to get a few hours in yday. Dh keeps exaggerating how much sleep I’ve managed and also seems to think I can just nod off as soon as I close my eyes but sometimes it can take an hour just to fall asleep
I have also fallen asleep with him on me a few times.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 07/01/2020 09:22

Glad we're all having the same issue of putting the them down to sleep!

First day on my own today. .. not entirely convinced I will get a shower this morning

Dad will have to be in cuddle duty when he's home n so I can shower and sleep!

Comps83 · 07/01/2020 09:29

Eugh health visitor just woke me up ffs!!!!
Is it normal for them to ring every day for 2 weeks or is it just coz I’m high risk pnd?

December2019 · 07/01/2020 09:33

@Fivebyfive2 I'm co sleeping at the moment Charlie won't sleep in his crib at all so I've been putting him in the sleepyhead nest next to me and I've been getting 2-3 hour stretches (which I'm extremely grateful for with a 1 year old none sleeper as well)

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 07/01/2020 10:28

Is it normal for people to try and have a conversation/ask you questions when you're trying to wrangle a squawking baby?? GAH! Give me a moment!

Comps83 · 07/01/2020 14:34

Oh my god!!!
I managed a few hours sleep and was looking forward to a bath and then going out for the first time in a week but I just got a message (happens to be from my Own employer) that the electric and water are off in my area. I feel cursed!

December2019 · 07/01/2020 18:28

@Comps83 it's just not been your day today has it 😮

Comps83 · 07/01/2020 18:40

Power off for possibly at least 12 hours!
I’ve lit every candle I could find
Lucky he’s breastfed!

forevercurious · 07/01/2020 20:24

is anyone else finding the lack of routine and consistency hard going? I really am! No two days are the same, sometimes he will wake up as soon as he’s put down and other times he will sleep in his Moses basket for a couple of hours. I just never know how it’s going to go! I am looking forward to him getting into more of a routine.

Fivebyfive2 · 07/01/2020 20:47

@Comps83, how are you getting on, is the power back OK?? Xx

@forevercurious, yeah the lack of routine is tough! Joe is almost 4 weeks and although we try to keep a few things consistent, it really all depends on him on the day! I'm trying to lean into it and go with the flow for now. How old is your little one? Xx

Comps83 · 07/01/2020 20:55

Still no power

Comps83 · 07/01/2020 21:09

Whoops back on ! Only off for 8 hours!

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 07/01/2020 23:17

@forevercurious I know what you mean!

It’s the night time that’s the worst.

Mine has possibly got silent reflux. On infacol, as she screams the house down when on her back.

Not entirely sure what tonight will bring.... I’m sleepy from no r al sleep last night.

DH had her for all of ten minutes this evening.... I fell asleep with her on the sofa :( in bed now p, going to try her on her back in about ten minutes ( she’s za sleep on me atm. Another looooooooong night ahead zzzz

Fivebyfive2 · 08/01/2020 02:32

@Comps83, glad you got the power back!

Joe was a little constipated today, but seems to be happily pooping away tonight! I actually got 4 hours sleep as dh had him for a shift, feeling better now and have taken over for the night. Mum is coming over tomorrow (today?!) which will be nice 🙂

Let's hope we all have a half decent night! Xx

Comps83 · 08/01/2020 04:47

He just slept a solid 4.5 hours on a v shape cushion on the sofa . I just semi dozed next to him . Still not ideal but shows he can actually sleep at night

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 08/01/2020 07:13

Mine sleep for 4.5chours too. Must be something in the air
