Hi All,

Thought I’d just start a December 2019 babies thread for those who have given birth in December and want to catchup/chat/rant/need support etc.

We are 11 days in...!
How is everyone doing?

@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps, Joe is getting to have different ood habits too! He was verrrryyy wary of finger foods at first, but now he's much better. Spoon wise, he used to just take the spoon and eat, now he does it half the time and other times just waves it around, it's like he gets too excited?! Oh and yes to wanting to just out his hands in the food 😂 So now I give him finger food and when it's stuff we need a spoon for, I let him put one hand in the bowl and feel it, feed himself a bit etc whilst also loading the spoon and making sure he actually eats some! Not sure if it's the best way, but it seems to work for now.

So I now have a one year old! It’s crazy how quickly the past year has flown! We’ve also hit the 12 month sleep regression hard. Awake every hour from bedtime, won’t settle even in our bed, waking up so much in the night 😭 DS always seems to really struggle with the sleep regressions! how’s everyone else doing? Ready for Christmas? x

Fivebyfive2 · 06/12/2020 09:00

@Forevercurious, hope you had a nice time for his first birthday? So sorry to hear the regression has hit.

Joe will be one on Sat, I'm so excited! We've got him some presents and I'll get a little cake with a '1' candle 🎂🙂

I'm dreading if the regression hits hard. We've just done some sleep training and it's made a bit of a difference... He doesn't sleep through, but I no longer have to feed him to sleep and on a good night he has about 10.5 hours with 1 short wake up.

Forevercurious · 07/12/2020 20:13

We did thank you! He had a cold so wasn’t completely himself but had a good time regardless. Happy Birthday Joe for Saturday! Grin

What sleep training did you do? Glad it worked for you. I think we’re working our way through this regression 🤞

Fivebyfive2 · 08/12/2020 14:41

We're doing the Ferber method, after all others have failed! It was horrible, but bed time is usually really good now. Naps and night wakes are still very hit and miss.

Hope the cold has passed and you all get some sleep soon! Xx

Comps83 · 15/12/2020 07:50

Ds is now in his own bed in his own bedroom and sleeps better
It was getting to the point that he could almost get over the top of the crib

Forevercurious · 15/12/2020 19:41

@Fivebyfive2Ah we tried and failed the Feber method a while back, it worked for the initial self settling but not wake ups unfortunately!

Hope everyone’s little ones are having great first birthdays!

Fivebyfive2 · 17/12/2020 15:19

@Forevercurious, yeah it's all gone to pot again already! I'm not feeding to sleep as much, but he seems unable to self settle at all this week?! So we're doing whatever it takes; sitting by the cot, rocking, cuddling, sometimes feeding in the night if I'm desperate. I've just accepted now we'll have to wait for him to just be ready to do it when it comes to sleep!

How are you? Xxx

Forevercurious · 20/12/2020 12:35

@Fivebyfive2 ah no! So frustrating when it stops working! I’m okay thanks, struggling a bit at the moment. DS is just being very hard work, clingy, sleep - both day and night have gone to pot! whinging a lot, some days barely eating which we’ve never struggled with before.

We’re trying to drop the morning nap and just do one (hopefully!) long nap a day to see if it makes any difference. x

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 21/12/2020 12:28

DD is now 1.

She has days where she'll eat next to nothing and other days you wonder where she puts it all!

Sleeping is atrocious. We're going to out her in her own room after Christmas. And muggins here will be on night duty.

Hopefully it will be better for her. She goes down fine, but won't always settle on he town. DH is next to useless his solution is to give her the bottle every single time within seconds...so frustrating!

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 21/12/2020 12:28

Still not walking yet. Can do a couple of falling steps, she's getting there!

Forevercurious · 25/02/2021 08:40

Hi, how are you all doing? it’s been a while since this thread was updated.

DS is now 14 months, 15 months next week actually! We’re still trying to achieve a full nights sleep but I've recently night weaned. He’s a whirlwind in the day, literally does not stop running and climbing on everything. I feel like I spend my days saying no and get down 😂

Comps83 · 01/03/2021 12:09

Mine still isn't walking and doesn't really talk but he sleeps ok. He is 13 months today
We have 2 positive covid cases in the nursery at the moment but not in his class

Comps83 · 01/03/2021 12:10

Sorry 14 months today

Teamthree · 01/03/2021 12:45

Hi everyone, I haven't commented for a long time, hope everyone is okay.
My LG is 14.5 months old now and is getting great at babbling, imitating sounds, expressions, gestures etc, but we have zero attempts at standing unaided or walking.

Sleep is pretty decent these days but I attribute that to sleep teaching plus her getting older. We seemed to flip a bit of a switch around 13 months old and sleep has been much more consistent since.

Cannot wait for lockdown to end so we can get out and do some new activities! And bring on the warmer weather.

Forevercurious · 08/03/2021 06:52

@Comps83 how are you finding nursery at the moment? DS is due to start in June for a couple of afternoons - hoping the number of cases is reduced dramatically by then!

@Teamthree glad you managed to crack the night time sleep! I think we may also be there too, just got to find a way for DS to sleep past 5:30am now!! I cannot wait for our classes and groups to return now, we spend a lot of time each day outside in the mud and it will be so good to do some indoor things too!

Comps83 · 11/03/2021 21:24

@Forevercurious I think he really enjoys it but he's been sent home a few times with illnesses which is to be expected but quite frustrating when you have to take time off work

2littleboyzmum · 12/03/2021 20:15

Anyone else's walking yet? My little boy started walking this week, he's still very unsteady on his feet but he learnt to stand back up on his own without any support from me or furniture so he's just getting back up or giving up and crawling when he falls, I know the steadiness will come with time. I'll have to go dig out the reigns and take him for a walk. We bought his first shoes but he freezes on the spot the moment he's put in them 😂

we've gone with feeding him his bottle, wind, give a kiss then pop into cot, leave to self settle for 10-20 minutes if he settles and go to sleeps that's ok, otherwise it's cuddles until sleepy then pop back down and try again. It seems to be going ok ish, but he's been very up and down, like two nights ago he slept all night in his cot and then last night he ended up with me all night as he was sleeping so lightly and every transfer back to the cot he woke and cried for long periods just not settling. Tonight so far hasn't gone much better!

Forevercurious · 16/03/2021 19:44

@Comps83 ah yeah I can imagine that’s frustrating especially as they pick everything up to start with!

@2littleboyzmum yes DS is now fully walking / running. He first took steps months and months ago, then stopped. Then seemed to stay at the wobbly stage for a while and then began properly walking in December. Now there’s no stopping him at all! He’s getting so fast and loves exploring outside. how’s the sleeping going now?
