Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
2208SEW · 06/03/2007 20:09

Hi - hope you don't mind me butting in :-) I'm new to Mumsnet and have a little girl born in August. I got some 'farfallini' pasta - tiny little bows - from Tesco wasn't v expensive. I tend to just blitz pasta in the food processor for now, but will try the farfallini in a couple of weeks. She got her 1st 2 teeth last week, looks like a chipmunk :-)

eenybeeny · 06/03/2007 20:54

Hi 2280SEW welcome to August and MN. What is your little girl's name? I have a boy born August 8 named Alex.

2208SEW · 06/03/2007 21:16

Hi eenybeeny - thanks for the welcome lo is Skye - born on 22nd. Alex is a lovely name, my grandad was called Alexander. I just can't believe how fast 6 months have gone (nearly 7 for you!) - amazing!

dreamydowler · 06/03/2007 22:18

Hi all and welcome to all you newbies. OOOOHHH Im so excited I love sundown I cant wait to go definitely count me in.

burstingbug · 06/03/2007 22:42

Joe is now 18lb 1oz! Bless him. Still no teeth, but looks like he may be crawling shortly.

George is not going to nursery any more as from the end of the month, we've manage to find a childminder.

The dog is progressing well in his classes, we have 2 rosettes now

Are we all lurgy free now?

Glad work is going well Eeny.

I have a Bumbo, used for George and now Joe. Joe lauches himself backwards in it, I swear he's going to go completely over!

Eeeerm, I'm hopeless at keeping up with people - apologies. Hope everyone is well - or surviving.

grannycrackers · 06/03/2007 23:09

hello everyone and welcome 2208. my ds was born on the 24th. he has no teeth yet, is nearly crawling and sits quite well. i think i am the newest person on this thread and that most have been here since antenatal (pls correct me if i'm wrong, evryone)

Nbg · 07/03/2007 08:57

Hiya 2208! In the words of Guns and Roses
"Welcome to the Jungle"

GC, sweet about the dee dee word. I think babies certainly pick up on things like that.

Re the pasta. Rissoto rice is good too cos its small and all mushy.

Eeny, give alex a try with the the lumpy stuff and see how he goes. Have you tried him with any finger foods?

Snow, congrats on the TT tickets. The last concert was amazing so I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
I shant mention the down right filthy dreams I had after though

Ellis is starting to wake up a bit more in the night again
We all have a cough but I dont think its that thats doing it. So I'm gutted. No more sleeping nights again.
And to top it all off, today I'm losing my voice!

BigHotMama · 07/03/2007 09:56

Welcome 2208, love the name of your dd, I have a second cousin who is 2 months old name India Skye, its a beautiful name. My ds is 1 day older than your dd and is name Jackson Lee. Great to have you on board!

Eeny, mash the banana with a fork, its still a bit lumpy but most babas I know love bananas as they are sweet and gooey. We gave this to ds before he had teeth.

Ds has broken a record by sleeping through the last 3 nights wow, I think its because we upped his portions of solids as he'd been having the same amount for some weeks now. He has a bigger bowl of porridge for breaky, some savoury for lunch with mashed banana for pudding and also has a bit of something for tea when we eat, he's also been sleeping for at least 2-3 hours during the day too whilst at my moms.

Wahoo I'm off to see Take That at Manchester on december 22nd! My sister managed to get some tickets yesterday. (Oh and pssst! hoping to get some sneaky tickets going on sale right now for George Michael mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.)

eenybeeny · 07/03/2007 11:20

Well I was up all night with Alex while he was being sick. Poor thing. It was awful. Sal just took him to the Dr who was pretty useless really.

granny you are right most of us have been posting here since the early days but all newcomers are welcome!

We havent tried Alex on any finger foods yet - I just dont know what to do as he doesnt have any teeth. If you care to coach me through it I will listen!

2208 - Alex's full name is Alexander. I love Skye! So beautiful!

PinkTulips · 07/03/2007 13:43

eeny... dd had no teeth til she was 11 months and had tonnes of finger foods before them. their gums are quite tough and hard and well able to grind most things down, pasta is definitely no problem for them

welcome 2208sew..... welcome to our mad bunch like grannycrackers said most of us have been internet junkies together since we were moaning about swollen ankles and being kicked in the bladder but we're very welcoming and he more the merrier.

feathers.... it almost pains me to admit this but i actually really like that new take that track was never a fan before but i quite like it!

purpleturtle · 07/03/2007 13:49

You def don't need to wait for teeth, Eeny. If you go straight to finger food, be prepared for him to try to swallow the odd lump before it's small enough and end up gagging on it, but he'll soon learn what to do. Obviously, you need to be vigilant, too! Or you can just make your purees a bit lumpier gradually and see how he goes. And of course, remember they're all different and do the lumps thing at different times.

eenybeeny · 07/03/2007 14:36

ok can someone please spell it out very simply for me. What exactly do I offer him? I am so confused.

He just threw up loads again poor thing so I dont think food will be an issue for a few days.

Pink I know what you mean about Take That. I have never liked them but I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE Patience & listen to it all the time!

PinkTulips · 07/03/2007 16:49

well at his age 0even if you stick with purrees they suggest giving fingerfoods as well and to starting making the food lumpier so rather than change the whole way you feed (blw is sort of all or nothing... you can't do 'a bit' of blw) why not give him some rice cakes to gnaw on and some banana or soft pear?

eenybeeny · 08/03/2007 14:14

thanks for the advice Pink.

I am really stressed. Sal and Alex are both really ill, vomiting etc. and poor Alex wont stop crying. I am busy cleaning up vomit doing laundry and worrying about them. Wish some of you were here to give me some moral support! Hope you are all doing well.

Ash80 · 08/03/2007 14:47

Hello, all you August moms,
I have a 6 month old ds born on the 22nd aug.I had been giving him pureed food until one day he just refused to take any spoonfuls.I looked into BLW and though was a worried at first, i gave him banana first , then other soft fruits, foll by really soft cooked veg (carrots, peppers etc) and he loves it.....

2208SEW · 08/03/2007 15:12

Hey ladies - thanks for the welcome Thanks re baby's name too - was pleased she was a girl so I could call her Skye! Whoever mentioned India Skye - that is a beautiful name, goes so well.
Ash our los were born on the same day.

Re food we're not doing finger foods at the mo, dd doesn't get it at all, confuses her - so just making stuff a bit lumpier - mashing rather than pureeing as much and that seems to be going OK. I'm also finding it a bit difficult to know what to give her, some days are better than others, yesterday she hardly had anything

Snowboo · 09/03/2007 11:09

Hi newbies! (Forgotten whos who yet again apologies!)

Eeny, Austin had a tooth which has yet again disappeared! HV said it happens... So he has babana, toast with dairylea, pasta shapes and whatever else ds1 feeds him when i'm not looking

Well, i've got a million things i should be doing but really can't a*d. Have to pack for a weeding this weekend and tidy up before we go but just keep looking and wanting to cry at the mess! Arghhhhhh.

To top it off, dhs car is sick so we were using his friends bu his friend now wants his car and.... oh i can't even be bothered explaining.

Yellow, i don't think i'll be able to contain myself when i see TT. Must remeber to put an incontinence pad on before i go, bound to wet myself with excitement! And i'm taking my friend so whn i told her she was nearly crying!!! Oh how sad we've become

Right, off to pack, have a good weekend to all xx

purpleturtle · 09/03/2007 16:14

Elijah's first tooth has disappeared as well! I thought it was an odd one to have come through first, and I think he might have broken through the gum by bashing it on something, rather than it cutting properly, IYSWIM.

PinkTulips · 09/03/2007 17:09

dd's first teeth did that too as did calebs... bizarre!

Nbg · 10/03/2007 08:41

SnowBoo, pmsl at incontenance pads . Tena will be raking it in when TT tour starts, lol!
I plan to pack my handbag full. I best be prepared, you dont know what that Melsy and Booby are like!

Welcome Ash! Are you american? The mom thing threw me a bit

Eeny, hope your all feeling better. This bug really does seem to be doing its rounds. Everyone I speak to has it. I know a few of the children at dd's school have been off with it.
Re the finger foods, its so so easy and I'm sure Alex will have a whale of a time experimenting with all the different foods.
Have a look at Aitch and Dizzy's BLW blog site here . It lists lots of foods giving you ideas on what to give and if needed, how to prepare them.
I would just go with something easy like banana, pear or when you eat, pick something off your plate and give it to him. Like brocoli, carrot batons, cauliflower etc.
It does explain on the BLW site that it is totally normal for babies to gag and that there is a big difference between gagging and chocking.
When I feed Ellis, he always takes far more than what he can possibly eat and ends up gagging but he just spits it out and starts again

Pink, always knew you were a secret TThater

Well, nothing much happening here. Ellis is still waking 3/4 times in the night. I just have no idea how to crack it. Its all to do with him not being able to settle himself but I dont really know how I can help him with it. The only ideas i have so far are to put 2 rolled blankets in his cot, either side of him. I remember this working for dd. Or buying one of those White noise cd's.
The annoying thing is that if I put him in our bed, he sleeps like a dream but I really can't go down the co-sleeping route. I need my bed!
He's also had a disappearing tooth! Its the one that came through at the back. Strange isnt it.
Oh and there is a second round of Chicken pox at dd's school and in the stylee of Cilla Black, suprise suprise, guess whos got Chicken Pox again
Am not impressed!

PinkTulips · 10/03/2007 09:38

pmsl.... poor M, how on earth did she manage that?!

calebs always shoves way too much in his mouth too and has to spit most of it back out.. the gagging goes down dramatically after they start to get the hang of it too, caleb hardly ever gags now unless he'sover excited and swallows food he hasn't chewed yet.

am so proud of the little guy.... he slept in his cot til 4.30 last night... only woke once for a feed at 9pm and didn't cry again. (and all you with babies whosleep through can stop looking so damn smug... this is good for us!)

Nbg · 10/03/2007 09:40

Awww pinky, what I'd give for a night like that!
Well done Caleb.

As for M and her CP, thats just our family's bloody luck

Nbg · 11/03/2007 09:36

I'm happy to report that Ellis fell for the rolled up blankets last night
I just stuck them under his fitted sheet either side of him.
He only woke at 3:30am and then 6:30am which is a massive improvement.

I just hope he does it again tonight!

BigHotMama · 11/03/2007 12:15

Oh dear didnt think you could get CP twice NBG? Bet it feels like dejavu Oh and btw I say 'mom' too but I aint american lol???

Well done to Ellis and Caleb for sleeping better! I wont mention Jackson's sleeping habits Pink as your right I am feeling a bit smug about him over the past few weeks

Jackson had his first taste of chocolate the other day, he saw me eating a boost and then opened his mouth for me to hand some over lol, his little face was a picture! (dont worry I didnt give him the whole bar just a few pieces off the side ha ha!)

Should I be cleaning his teeth does anyone know? He has 2 at the front but havent brushed them, not sure if I should be tbh?

Cant believe how many poos he is doing a nowadays, yesterday I changed 6 pooey nappies

Eeny hope your all feeling better, that bug sounds nasty chick!

How mad these disappearing teeth? Must be a new trend for the babas on the August 06 thread.

Nbg · 11/03/2007 13:07

BHM, they do say to brush when teeth appear. I think its a good thing because it gets them used to the taste and sensation of it.
I would go for a minty toothpaste too as alot of kids get used to the bubblegum flavoured toothpastes and wontswap when they're older.
DD uses colgate like us now and its much easier. Shes also got her own little electric toothbrush lol
