Sept 05 babies - anyone else's destroying their house?

JoshandJamie · 07/02/2007 17:52

My 16 month/nearly 17 month old is systematically destroying our house. I literally cannot clear up one mess before he's made another. Today in the space of 30 minutes, he had got into three toilets and either pulled used paper out of them, shoved toys in them or used the loo brush to paint the walls.

He then got into the kitchen cupboard and got into the box of teabags and ripped them apart sprinkling the tea leaves on the floor.

He then walked into the hallway, reached up to the top of the telephone table (fairly high) and managed to knock off a VERY heavy glass vase so that it smashed into a million tiny shards (and remarkably walked away unhurt) and at the same time managed to smash the mini CD player underneath the vase.

While out at a soft play centre, he knocked over someone's cup of coffee, stole someone's lollipop and someone else's drink.

Once home, he dug up freshly planted bulbs and brought all the mud inside which he deposited in the kitchen cupboard.

Supper was smeared everywhere - I now have cous cous from floor to ceiling. And I won't even get started on what the toy room looks like.

In case you're wondering, I do keep an eye on him but have a 3 year old too and need to occassionally pee or get dressed. I feel like I am about to lose my mind. My house is a shit pit. I know I will spend hours clearing it up tonight only to have it destroyed again tomorrow.

Sorry for the moan. Just needed to get it off my chest instead of throttling the small chap. I know he's just exploring but my patience is wearing thin.

We had a lovely day yesterday, we spent the day doing all her favourite things - toddler group, swings, walking to the PO, Granny and Grandad came for lunch, then we played all afternoon and 2 sets of neighbours happy birthday to her and of course there was the cake!

She was completely knackered by bedtime but only had one mini tantrum in the evening which is unheard of these days.

Today we went swimming with DD2 and Granny, it's the first time she's been since she was tiny and she loved it! She naturally floated and seemed to know what to do so we'll try to go again. DD2 was like a little whale rolling around and splashing and didn't mind getting a wet face.

Now I can't wait till her party on saturday, the 2 cake frame should be coming tomorrow...

MoosMa · 04/09/2007 18:26

neighbours sang happy birthday

mummyhill · 05/09/2007 07:41

Wabbitt - Thanks for comming over last night it was lovely to have a chat and catch up. C is so lovely. p.s. how's the crochet and finger knitting?

Idris - we had a lovely evening, plenty of chat, the kids played nicely and we even managed to fit in some crafting as well.

MoosMa - Love the cake. You are braver than me, I won't be attempting to make one for ds, I will leave that to my mum as my artistic tallents do not stretch that far.

Right off to get dd ready for 1st day back at school.

wabbitt · 05/09/2007 21:36

Moosma - happy birthday to Ellie for the 3rd

Idris - we had a lovely catch up and mummyhill showed me how to crochet and fingerknitting...

I visited our new premises at Ryton Organics yesterday too - loads of work to do but such a fantastic location for a Steiner kindergarten I feel blessed!

Mummyhill - David looks to be a happy little chap - I hope he falls into some kind of routine for you soon
Thank you for having me over even though I was tired and Conrad was a bit weepy... such a long day for him

Hello to everyone else... Next birthday on the list is Rachel on the 18th

wabbitt · 05/09/2007 21:37

IdrisTheDragon · 06/09/2007 11:44

Sorry about the up in the night antics mummyhill - I can sympathise, but sadly not suggest anything as I have a similarly nocturnal Alice.

She only woke once last night (I could hear her saying (loudly) "Banged my head. Banged my head" but some milk later she moved onto "My get in bed" which was better - the bed being hers.

DS also woke up as he was "slightly damp" - even in his sleep he does has excellent bladder muscles as there was a slight wet patch on his pyjama bottoms and then he did an enormous wee that nearly came out of the potty .

But still two wakings. Yawn. DH tries with Alice, but she generally yells "No Daddy. Want Mummy" which defeats the object.

It's my birthday on Saturday. I noticed in DH's emails there was one from my sister called "Saturday plans" or something like that . I didn't read it but it sounds like something is Being Organised .

mummyhill · 06/09/2007 16:15

My DH took me shopping. He bought me a watch, a lovely shawl and dinner at the chinese buffet for my birthday today. Unfortunatly we now have the children back and they are being silly. DH is out training tonight so may escape to my mums with the kids.

IdrisTheDragon · 06/09/2007 18:34

Happy birthday mummyhill .

IdrisTheDragon · 06/09/2007 20:30

Are we very nearly the same age? Might you be two days older than me?

wabbitt · 07/09/2007 00:25

Happy Birthday Mummyhill

You poor poppets with your wide awakey little ones...

night night all xxx

mummyhill · 07/09/2007 12:46

On looking at your Profile Idris I would say yes I am older than you by ohh 2 days.

I am quite excited I have been asked this morning if I wiould be able to take over the wednesday toddler group as well as the monday one that I run at my local church. I need to plan plenty of ideas for activities etc now!!!!

wabbitt · 07/09/2007 13:18

hi mummyhill - got your mail.. I'm just putting together some ring time songs many of them seasonal...

Oats and beans and barley grow... do you know know that one?

Activities for teeny ones... I am going to be making lanterns for our Martinmass festival
you can also make turnip lamps or papier mashe lanterns...

you could collect leaves and decorate autumn coloured window roundels.. on tissue paper with a card frame... Do an activity like this over a few sessions.

much of these things Mummy will be helping out with depending on the age of your teenies

can I give you a huge tip for story telling?
make yourself a story telling pinny with pockets and applique sun, moon, stars, trees, river, house etc (right up your street) then put simple little felt puppets in the pockets and bring them out as you tell the story... very simple and easy to memorise stories

the magic for the little ones is wonderful and draws them into the whole experience...

IdrisTheDragon · 07/09/2007 22:26

Alice and I have bought her a "big girl" beaker instead of her night time bottle. I wonder if this will suddenly transform night time here (inlikely I know).

DH has banned me from the kitchen as DS, Alice and he will be wrapping my presents while I have a lie-in tomorrow .

mummyhill · 08/09/2007 19:23

HAPPY BIRTHDAY IDRIS.

wabbitt · 09/09/2007 01:59

first chance of getting to the PC - Happy Birthday Idris

DizzyDreamer · 09/09/2007 11:27

Hi all, my nickname used to be Ych, not posted for ages. Just wanted to check in on how everyone is getting on in the lead up to the 2nd birthdays.

Joel will be 2 on 13th Sep. His is mad on cars so we've got him one of those red & yellow coupe cars that he can go on. Also ordered a dancing 'Iggle Piggle' which is due to arrive anyday! If its nice on his birthday we're going to take him to Cairnie Fruit farm which has loads for kids to do. Trampolines, bales of straw with slides coming down, mini tractor go carts, a big maize maze and lovely home made cakes. Then on saturday we're having a party in the house. Got about 14 kids coming between the ages of 6 months and 8!

He's getting on great. Has been in a big bed for a couple of months now. He was starting to climb out of his cot so had to make the change. We've got a babygate on his bedroom door though so he can't escape!

We're still hoping to move, been looking at new houses and although they are very expensive fingers crossed we can make the jump from a 2 bedroom house to a 3.

Anyway, happy birthday to all the little ones. xxx

SunnyJaamy · 10/09/2007 20:39

OMG - this is where everyone's got to! Thanks for the tipoff, Idris. I was previously Jessysmummy on the Antenatal Sept 05 thread though Abigail didn't put in an appearance until 10th Oct.

Just wanted to say a great big Happy 2nd Birthday to all those who have already celebrated. Will now go and peruse the rest of the thread to see how everyone is getting on.

All OK here, but can't believe how fast those 2 years have gone!!

mummyhill · 11/09/2007 12:26

OMG Wabbitt I am not going to be a popular bunny cause I have just made a wish list for Myriad stuff and it's all your fault for telling me about them Seriousley though they are great thankyou hunni. Whats the best time to call you? I would love to have a chat about toddler group/kindergarten activities.

JAAMY - Hi there sweetie how are you? Give me a shout if you fancy meeting up sometime soon, we could allways meet up at Trentham Gardens.

SunnyJaamy · 11/09/2007 22:05

JoshandJamie - your days sound just like mine. I have a 3.5 year old as well as my nearly 2, though I have found that the older one is starting to be a bit more helpful with her little sister and all the mess and tantrums are worth it when they give each other one of those spontaneous bear hugs!

OK - think I've caught up now and not at all sad that I've been missed off any lists , though I am officially an October 05er I hope you'll still welcome me .

First things first - Happy belated Birthday to Ellie - fab cake, Moosma and where did Ellie get all that beautiful hair from? Can Abigail please have some.

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY for tomorrow to Joel. We have fortnately escaped any night time escapades and Abigail remains a good sleeper in her cot. Will probably leave her there until the new year unless she develops rock climbing abilities before then.

And Happy belated birthdays to Idris and Mummyhill, also. Hope you two had fabulously sticky birthday cakes too!

Bubbles - so sorry to hear about your DH. Are you still in Warrington? Maybe we could meet up if you would like the company of someone who's not related to family or friends...

Mummyhill - hi lovley lady. Sorry not been in touch of late. Not been on the pc much at all. Would love to meet up but you sound awfully busy. have you finally got rid of that awful place of work? Will email soon and sort out a date to meet. Would be lovely to see how D has grown I bet he's twice the size of A - a real boy! And I promise not to lock DDs in car this time! How's sniff? Feel terribly guilty that I haven't had chance to get in touch with her.

Wabbitt - another busy lady. Amazed at Noops talents! Glad to hear that things are going well for you. Hard work seems to be paying off..."Do you or I or anyone know how oats and beans and barley grow?..." Sorry couldn't help myself!

Idris - you are lucky if you've escaped being roped in to decorating. Ours is a WIP too but seems to be more work than progress!!

Mamama - are you still away from our shores? Do they have Thomas the tank and swiss rolls there or am I being a real brit abroad? Hope all ok with you and you and your little man are more settled now.

SR/RH - I think this rubbish weather has a lot to answer for with unsuccessful dieting. No motivation to wear skimpy clothes - my mini skirts and tiny tops have been relegated to the back of my wardrobe for ages...well about 15 years now!

Sorry it's along one but I didn't want to leave any one out. If you've made it this far, thanks for reading. Anyway, take care all. Hope to drop in a bit more often. Stay well.

mummyhill · 12/09/2007 00:10

Hi Jaamy - Sniff is feeling a bit sad atm DH is away doing his type ratting for new job so has all 3 munchkins on her own. If you get a chance to get in touch I am sure she would appreciate it. D now comes to my hip and I cannot allways restrain him when needed (by busy roads etc) as he is very strong in will and body.He is a clumsy little tyke though. N is starting to get jealous now that he can play with her toys etc. I was trying to be good by not mentioning the call to the man with a van and some handy tools however, as you mentioned it yourself I am sure we won't have a repeat!!! If we can arrange it arround school hols maybe wabbitt and a select few other people could join us?????

IdrisTheDragon · 12/09/2007 10:14

Morning everyone - Jaamy glad you foudn your way here .

Alice has managed to stay asleep all night for two nights in a row. This probably isn't unusual for most of our small ones but is for her . I think that removal of the night time bottle(s) may have helped - last Friday we went and chose some big beakers with pictures on for "big girls" and bottles have been removed to a high up cupboard.

Anyway, we shall wait and see (with fingers crossed...)

Can't believe my small girl is nearly 2 . She is going to have a week long celebration I think of grandparents this weekend, her actual birthday next Thursday, party with small friends on Friday and some more relations on Sunday.

Better do some work really as that is what I am here for I suppose...

SunnyJaamy · 12/09/2007 22:03

OK MH - will make effort to get in touch with sniff. My DH is away a lot at the mo too so we can tell our woes to each other!!
When is half term for dates for possible meet up? Would love to meet your N and Wabbitt and C and any one else... And if we could get sniff along too, perhaps could cheer her up.

Idris - hurrah for Alice! Sounds like she's going to have a fabulous birthday celebration. And well done for "losing" the bottles. Abigail still has one at night but would like to get her off that.

wabbitt · 13/09/2007 04:06

Morning all!!

Jammy!!! Hellooo

little man awake - have had little sleep... will write more when I'm really awake!

lovely to see so many here

xx

SunnyJaamy · 14/09/2007 01:36

Hello Wabbitt!! Hope you get a better night's sleep tonight. x fingers

Ych/DD - how did the birthday go? Were the coupe car and iggle piggle well received? Good luck for the party on Saturday. We'll be having an equally mad event in October.
