Sept 05 babies - anyone else's destroying their house?

My 16 month/nearly 17 month old is systematically destroying our house. I literally cannot clear up one mess before he's made another. Today in the space of 30 minutes, he had got into three toilets and either pulled used paper out of them, shoved toys in them or used the loo brush to paint the walls.

He then got into the kitchen cupboard and got into the box of teabags and ripped them apart sprinkling the tea leaves on the floor.

He then walked into the hallway, reached up to the top of the telephone table (fairly high) and managed to knock off a VERY heavy glass vase so that it smashed into a million tiny shards (and remarkably walked away unhurt) and at the same time managed to smash the mini CD player underneath the vase.

While out at a soft play centre, he knocked over someone's cup of coffee, stole someone's lollipop and someone else's drink.

Once home, he dug up freshly planted bulbs and brought all the mud inside which he deposited in the kitchen cupboard.

Supper was smeared everywhere - I now have cous cous from floor to ceiling. And I won't even get started on what the toy room looks like.

In case you're wondering, I do keep an eye on him but have a 3 year old too and need to occassionally pee or get dressed. I feel like I am about to lose my mind. My house is a shit pit. I know I will spend hours clearing it up tonight only to have it destroyed again tomorrow.

Sorry for the moan. Just needed to get it off my chest instead of throttling the small chap. I know he's just exploring but my patience is wearing thin.

Happy birthday to your DH SR . Hope the weather is nice for you (you're near us aren't you - it's mainly sunny here now but there are worrying grey clouds around the place...)

IdrisTheDragon · 27/08/2007 12:35

It being bank holiday there is decorating going on.

Only been here 2.5 years so is time our bedroom got done. Slightly longer task than DH anticpated though I think .

His brother and wife are here and his mum and dad and sister will be here later.

Alice is currently engrossed with two toy buggies and various dolls and teddies .

Redhelen · 27/08/2007 16:14

Hello - yes weather lovely. Feeling confused .... I overheard something yesterday - dh and his parents speaking about something important - he does not know I overheard - but has not told me about it?

Rachel loves her little push chair she likes to wheel her tellytubbies around init.

I want to decorate too Idris - I want to paint everything!

IdrisTheDragon · 27/08/2007 22:08

Could it have been something to do with his family? Maybe something that doesn't directly affect you?

Decorating is a work in progress - not involving me too much . Although I did clear out the laundry room which was an equally good task.

What are everyone else's small one's like at night time? Alice is not good. She did sleep through quite a bit a couple of weeks ago, but is generally up once duing the night. Will she ever be a reliable sleeper (at least DS is I suppose...)

MoosMa · 27/08/2007 22:59

Are your nearly 2yo's in big beds yet? E has recently started to escape from her cot so we've moved her into a big bed and she seems ok with it. She's not too sure about it when we tuck her in but she settles ok (she's always been a good sleeper - sorry!) and this morning she came into our room saying "nice snooze, yes " DH made a lovely headboard for her today too, I'll put pics up tomorrow so you can all swoon!

RedH, is it the kind of thing you could ask him? If it was me I would grill him until he spilt, but then I am very stubborn and nosey to boot!

wabbitt · 28/08/2007 03:04

decorating going on here too... been here 4 years... about time for a refresh don't you think?

Hope all have had good weekends - RedHelen, hope your overheard snatch of conversation has been revealed and resolved now

I've been to Staffordshire - Mid Wales - Staffordshire (again) and then home and have lunched with my mother... dined with my sister... had an improptu bonfire (great fun) and discovered that Nandy can do Fire Breathing!!!

enough for one day, only just home and all are now in respective beds and i'm going to mine.

MoosMa - Conrad's still in his cot at the moment, and hasn't shown any sign of being able to climb out

wabbitt · 28/08/2007 03:07

Oh and Idris - conrad is generally a good sleeper but has for the last two weeks been very unsettled - might be because we've been out of our usual routine.

mamama · 28/08/2007 04:14

Firebreathing, Wabbitt? (will email you soon, promise - bit snowed under atm) What a talented DD you have I'm a bit as I can never do anything very exciting. Maybe she'll teach you how to do it!

SR, I hope you get things sorted out - I'd be a bit puzzled too. Sounds a bit odd but maybe he's trying to work something out and doesn't want to worry you. I must say, I am intrigued though.

DS loves his pushchair too but is very attached to his little Thomas the Tank Engine which he carries around everywhere!

IdrisTheDragon · 28/08/2007 22:59

Why don't I go to bed a bit earlier? Especially when I am at work tomorrow and so have to get up at silly o clock?

Redhelen · 28/08/2007 23:15

Hello!

I ended up asking dh about Sundays conversation - bit anoyed as it was a finacial thing that I really should have been involved it - but is done now. Perhaps he didn't want to trouble my 'girlie' head with figures, he wont do that again!

I have been out for hours at Slimming World - and hardly any one has lost any weight! Do you think it was the weather or the bank holiday weekend!

Redhelen · 28/08/2007 23:16

Oh yes it is late - but I'm not getting up at silly o'clock Idris! - well not unless Rachel has other ideas!!! She is generally a very good sleeper.

Redhelen · 28/08/2007 23:21

Can Nandy really firebreath? Where did she learn?

I have got Rachels big girl bed ready - but have held back putting it in her room - it seems like the end of my 'baby' days which makes me sad!

Redhelen · 29/08/2007 22:03

OKK - BIG SHOCK!

ON GMTV tomorrow at 9am!!! Talking to Dr Hilary about Depression in Pregnancy - kids coming to! Being picked up 'by a car!' at 6.30am - What shall I wear!!!!!

IdrisTheDragon · 29/08/2007 23:50

Wow . Sadly will be at work so unable to see your moment of starring glory .

But will be thinking of you .

mamama · 30/08/2007 00:47

redhelen - that's very ecxiting. Let us know how it goes!

IdrisTheDragon · 30/08/2007 08:50

Ooh thinking of the fame of a September 05 Mummy .

Redhelen · 31/08/2007 20:57

Hello!

I was totally terrifying! But I did enjoy it too! and I was pleased with what I said - I did look like a fumpy old bird though - how did that happen!!!??

Redhelen · 31/08/2007 20:57

AHHHH MY SPELLING!!!

IdrisTheDragon · 02/09/2007 08:12

Good morning .

Glad the television experience went well - and I'm sure you didn't look frumpy .

Another disturbed night here. And it's my morning for getting up. I have a somewhat [yawn] emoticon.

mummyhill · 02/09/2007 10:22

arghh so this is where you all are, I have been checking the old thread and wondering why it wAS SO DAMN QUIET. rIGHT OFF TO READ AND CATCH UP WILL POST MORE IN A BIT.

mummyhill · 02/09/2007 10:38

Bubbles - sorry to hear about dh, hope you are well and that you can sort something out which works well for you.

Wabbitt - hi hunni yes davey's b'day is the 22nd and we are still on for the 4th. May bring Dh along as well as an extra pair of eyes as he has booked the week off so he can take nat in to school for the 1st day of the new school year on Weds and we can go out on thurs for my b'day.

Idris - good to see you. On the subject of sleep, Davey is a night mare. He is in a proper bed cause he was getting too big for the cot, we have had to go for bunkbeds for now as we are only in a 2 bed house. He won't go to sleep much before 10 and wakes any time between 1 and 6 sometimes more than once.

SR/RH ohh dear nissed your tv debut cause i was looking at the wrong thread. Hope it all went ok.

Davey is still trashing my house and still doesn't speak much. He is still getting lots of ear infections and I think he may have glue ear. He has had an hearing test and they decided that he struggles with the lower ranges. He is due to go for further tests october. We have got him a garage and some cars for his birthday. I really need to have a good sort out of all the toys when Nat goes back to school to make room for birthday stuff. Then I think I had better get thinking about christmas.

I am crafting like mad at the momment, making cards, decorating small picture frames, designing scrapbook layouts for my portfolio, knitting, crochet and a small amount of sewing to get some stock together for the stall I am having at the school christmaqs fayre. I am trying to launch my own small handicrafts business. Wish me luck!!!!

Thanks for reading, promise i won't leave it so long to track yhou down in the future.

Redhelen · 02/09/2007 21:37

Hello Mummyhill - hope your crafty business goes really well and D is sleeping soundly!

wabbitt · 03/09/2007 00:43

Hellooooo
fantastic week at Plymouth!! the tutors are lovely and the other students are equally lovely too

We have the new premises at Ryton Organics so it looks like I'm going to be running my own Kindergarten whilst I'm training and I have a wonderful tutor who says she'll be the grandmother to the group and come in to help me pull it together at regular intervals... I'm very excited

RH - wow!! I wish I'd seen you on tv, that would be so exciting I think I would clam up and look stupid in a situation like that

MH - bring hubby too... what time are we meeting sweetie?

oh yes, and yes... she can fire breath.... she already does fire poi and her older friends have shown her how the firebreathing is done - i've seen her... really impressive!!!

love to all xxx

mummyhill · 03/09/2007 05:53
