Mzzzf I thought I'd have a baby that goes to bed at 7pm by now. I also thought how much I could get on with whilst DS naps in his cot cause they go down about every 90 mins right?? Ha ha ha. Oh first time parenthood brings you down to Earth like nothing else.

DS is one of the old ones in my NCT group and so swimming in the slow lane when it comes to sleep.

Oh and of course your welcome. My baby was also supposed to be July but was smoked out 13 days late!

nolongerwaitingfornumber2 · 09/12/2015 18:53

Slow, I told you it was sad!! I actually find the end even sadder that she is still wandering and looking for Jesus leaving presents for any new baby she comes across. I vote you should read the Night Before Christmas with Grumpy 1 & 2 before bed tonight to cheer yourself up!

Welcome to the thread! My DS was also due in July but made an appearance on 5th Aug at 8 days late so is 18 weeks today. We're pretty spread our through the month though with some closer to 3 months still than 4 so you'll fit right in!

Welcome Elley! My baby was actually due October 1st, but arrived on August 29 by emcs. So he's 14 weeks (still not sure when I should start counting in months not weeks!). Either way, he's the oldest of my NCT class by over a month and I joined these lovely ladies to be able to talk about stuff.

I wasn't sure what to expect as to what J would do sleepwise, but I did rather hope napping would be less traumatic. Most of the time, either he catnaps for 15 minutes or gets massively overtired and cries himself to sleep, neither of which are particularly helpful.

Hi elley my dd2 was due 23 Aug but didn't arrive til 2nd September either.

Evening all,

mzzf neither of my babies have been keen on cot sleeping, napping etc at this age. They get there eventually, but in a few months they are more empathetic and easier to influence imo, with dd1 I used to feed her in the dark until she fell asleep, then pop her in the cot, sometimes I'd pretend to sleep by her, just close my eyes etc. I think it works when they are a bit older.

Elley welcome, my baby is 17 weeks old, born beginning August. There's a lot of late night drinking (we wish!) and chocolate eating on this thread Smile

Afm had the final meningitis jab this week. Two days later baby giraffe is still out of sorts! Thank goodness for calpol. She has a cold also, so wants to be held upright all night or she chokes and cries, poor thing.

Hope we all get a better night tonight, here's hoping...

Hi elley, welcome to the dark side, you'll find it very chatty here. My DD was born on the 28th August at either 39+6 or 40+4 depending on which set of my maternity notes you read Confused so we are currently at 14 weeks.

nolonger I think they must have softened the ending down a bit for the infant school audience as it wasn't quite that sad at the end but it wasn't exactly a barrel of laughs either. I'm hoping for a more straight up nativity next year, preferably with a bit of 'away in a manger' going on love.

Fatty- hope your feeling better- aghhhh at he thought of it being morning sickness!!

Kbro- scary how you forget pregnancy rubbish ness isn't it- Ives just convinced DH we'll have three kids not the 2 he used to say he wanted- this coming from the woman who swore DS would be an only she hated pregnancy so much! Oh and yes to the 'getting things done' naivety- I said I was going to relearn my Spanish which I have totally lost from being almost fluent!! Haha the closest I've got is eating paella!!!

Welcome Elley- yes we are very very chatty and there's a few of us who aren't officially augmums- I'm July really- due date was 12tj August but DS surprised us on 26th July!

Mzzf- the third jabs are the worst aren't they! I really wouldn't worry about mini Mzzf being one of the oldest and not sleeping/ napping etc- I think DS may be officially the oldest on here and the longest he has slept is 11- 5.30 and that was ONCE!

DS has continued his hunger strike today and managed a grand total of 14oz. I'm so scared he's going to lose weight he hasn't got to lose! It seemed to be the least of their concerns at hospital so I'll just have to roll with it for now. I can hear his tummy rumbling so he's clearly hungry but finding it too difficult to eat poor thing!

Amaretto and cokes on the bar ladies.

Frolicacid · 09/12/2015 21:38

Evening all!

Frolicbaby has been much calmer today and the crazy shouting that started the same time as the sleep problems has calmed loads. He's had much better day time naps, including one that was over 3 hours, and has just gone down without much protest. All the signs are good.

I hope Ds is better now lily. What a scary, shit night for you.
Amaretto and Coke is perfect! A little festive and plenty of sugar and caffeine for the night shift.

I hope you had a successful nap day too slow. Glad you got to see the end of babushka. I bet there were many tears!

You are not a crap mum grok. It's so easy to feel like you are doing something wrong when they are unsettled, isn't it. I wasn't prepared for the level of guilt and doubt Ds would bring into my life.

Welcome elley! My Ds was born on the 27th, so only a few days before yours. You must be crazy if you're feeling broody already!

I hope everyone else is ok. So much shit sleep and sickness amongst us at the moment. The universe obviously didn't hear us put in our order for a better December.

lily thanks for the drink, delicious!

Fatty oh the joys of parenthood, hope you get the chance for a nice shower, is your dp there to help tonight?

I'm sitting at the bar assuming there'll be a lock in tonight. Baby giraffe is asleep finally, but on me and every so often she lets out a blood curdling scream due to panic at all the mucus from her cold...dh has taken dd1 to stay at his mums as I can't cope with both atm.

Evening all! Well my smugness at baby going down with minimal fuss (aka lots of boob) at 8pm is gone. We're awake at 10:30 which is a new one for me. Thought she'd mastered 9:30pm-2am?! Ahh well!!

Lily sounds like a proper rough night. Hope he's ok. To be honest after the massive catch up ive had to just do That's the only thing that has proper sunk in Blush sorry other babes and ladies. There does sound like a lot of crap illnessss/exhaustion knocking about though and this was supposed to be a good thread WHYYYYYYY GAAAWWWWDD DDDARRRRNIITTTTT. Cmon give us all a break ey??!! Hmm x

Haha, I had DS1 who never slept, ever.
DD slept all the time in the cot from the day she was born.
DS2 is my punishment for being smug about DD Grin
To be fair though he has just self settled on the changing mat, but I don't know if that's him coming out if regression or because he's unwell.

nolongerwaitingfornumber2 · 09/12/2015 23:19

Fatty, I presume it's the 3rd lot? They are absolutely horrible and DS hasn't been right since and ours were last Thurs. Definitely put off until he's better.

Slow, yeah I guess toning it down for the infants makes sense. Best not to traumatise children at Christmas! Someone was after a star costume on our local fb selling site today and I immediately thought of your DD looking adorable in hers!

Isn't it funny that we have babies ranging from 13 to nearly 20 weeks on this thread? We are the thread of the summer holiday babies aren't we? None of them will be at school on their birthdays ever (apart from possibly the Scottish contingent).

DS took forever to fall asleep tonight and is currently snoozing on me so I know tonight is going to be long already. Amaretto and coke sounds perfect!

As for all the expectations of motherhood and mat leave, totally agree. I think this time I'm more relaxed as I know I get nothing done that I intend to if it isn't baby related. My plan was to learn Italian and the piano last time! Yeah right!

Yes I thought I'd be able to pass my theory and practical driving test Hmm I can't even read the instructions on the back of ready meals I'm that tired.

Just a rant, a girl in my NCT group has just said she's knackered as her baby had a bad night and she was up at 1 and 5 last night and then slept until 10. I want to punch her, I know that's dreadful but I literally want to scream at her YOOOU WOULDNT KNOW A BAD NIGHT IF IT WHALLOPED YOU ON THE NOSE! Sorry, I know it's all relative and nothing worse than sleep being taken away when you're used to it but I'm sooooo tired I think my compassion has flown out the window, I'm horrid. downs all the rank overspill wastage in the beer trays and heads back to bed in shame
See you at 3:30 as we're up every 2.5hrs tonight x

Let's line up some more shots and keep the party lively! Dd spent about ten minutes in her cot and has slept on me since. I'm wondering whether to give her more calpol but its downstairs and I'm propped up in bed holding her dilemma. Oh it's a wonderful decision like choosing which Caribbean holiday or which diamond to have.

Sorry everyone else who's having a crap night or nights!

Amaretto sounds bloody lovely - leave the bottle barkeep!

In short third jabs are the shittest thing ever. Mini mzzzf has been running big fever since midday, lots of paracetamol and stripped her down still boiling. I then broke our effing bed so DH and I are sleeping on the mattress on the floor and dd is in between us. She's getting a great rest, I'm getting numb fr sleeping in one position 😕 oh woe is bloody me!

Fanby I'd be tempted to Miss Piggie judo chop that lady!!! She doesn't even know tired - fucking amateur!

Sorry for the swears but you should know by now that they are directly relational to the level of exhaustion.
Fuckitty fuck fuck fuck*

Who do we have to bribe or sacrifice a lamb to in order to get some sleeping babies?!

*no monsieur iPhone I never ever mean to type 'duck'!!!

sianihedgehog · 10/12/2015 03:05

Oh god I take back everything about DS being a good sleeper. We did 10-10:30, then 11:30-1:30 and I'm still bloody up.

I really thought he might finally be getting the hang of it. :(

Report
Clstow · 10/12/2015 03:20

Yes please to amaretto.

The jabs are fucking horrendous. Three days in and DS is not himself at all. No more vom thank goodness but so many tears, so much clinginess and lots of wakings. Zzzz.

Welcome Elley. DS was 13 days late, born August 7th so now 17 weeks. He's usually a happy little dude... Curse you meningitis b.

Report
Fanby · 10/12/2015 04:37

So I don't like amaretto :( not sure what to have instead....

There is definitely a correlation between swearing and exhaustion. I missed the conversation on work mzzzf (Offering private consultations etc sounds like a winner through!), but I have an interview on Friday and I know I'm gonna balls it up due to sleep deprivation. Some days I literally can't get words out. In going to do a lot of listening and interested faces if I can manage to stay awake long enough.

Ok ladies you're freaking me out with the jabs. This is the first time I'll be flying solo too and DH came to the first lot and mum to the second lol. Will have the thermometer and calpol at the ready x

Actually she was fine in the end. I shouldn't blame the jabs. I think it's more likely my taking penicillin that's put her a bit unsettled.

Tbh fanby it's utter bollocks that it's worse if the sleep is taken away. Relentless, consistent lack of sleep will break you. The odd few nights is totally manageable!

mzzf just turn over. Nothing bad will happen.

Frolic- glad you had a calmer day yesterday and haven't spotted you at the bar so fingers crossed you've had s lovely snooze!

Oh fatty- your DC really are giving you a hard time at the mo bless you, extr amaretto for you!

Glad the amaretto went down so well- fanby can I interest you in a JD and coke instead? We can't have you drinking over spills!! I'm impressed you didn't wallop that girl on the nose and blame the tiredness- I honestly think it could excuse murder! Haha!

Giraffes hope your not still trapped under DD! I'll send a waiter over to take your drinks order if you are!

Broke the bed eh Mzzf? Grin

Lol at iPhone 'duck'correction, mine has also renamed Fanby as fancy!! You ladies are brave taking on job interviews my brain is like total mush at the moment! Good luck though you can do it!

Going to try and put my little snufflepig back to bed I've been up since 6am he's had about 3.5 oz which is an improvement on this time yesterday, he's smothered in snuffle babe and has finally dropped back off on my lap amidst coughing like a trooper. He's literally needed resettling every 20 minutes since 0430 and before that every hour! I'll just fill these eye bags with amaretto and sneak back to bed.

Morning all,

Fanby your friend deserves a 'fun' night like we've all had as a reality check Grin if I had only two wakings I'd be dancing round the bedroom and high fiving baby giraffe now.

I had an awful night, I had to hold baby all night due to the mucus from her cold making her choke and cry in any other position. I did put a pile of pillows behind me and to both sides of me, so I could snooze whilst sitting up but my arms were supported and I couldn't drop her.

Bizarrely I think you forget the sleepless nights of the first year, I certainly got broody again in time whereas atm I'm thinking hell no more children EVER!! I know these times will pass though.

I'll pass round some lovely full fat lattes for us all to enjoy, we can enjoy the beach sunrise then get on with the day can't be worse than the effing night
