Like Slow I have been trying to find the time to reply properly. Even now I only have 5 mins before we head off to swimming but I'm after some advice.

DS's nails grow so quickly but he really hates having them cut. The tears just now we're heartbreaking Sad. What techniques have people found for managing nail cutting? DD was fine but her nails grew pretty slowly so it wasn't a regular ordeal anyway.

Fatty, glad things are sorted. You need to get over to Mzzf's commune in Canada for a break I reckon!

Dozy, yes the different types of cry drives me mad as I try to work out what's wrong. This morning he was clean, fed and well rested but just screaming for no apparent reason.

Loves, yes you must get the donuts and I agree DH should pay! I may have purchased a few cheeky Black Friday deals this morning too.

Siani, I love Canada! Do you think you would ever move back?

Right better get everyone out of the house now. Mugabe all.

everythingispeachy · 27/11/2015 12:42

Sorry another one who has been struggling to post. It's been a busy few days. Had my second Roots of Empathy session on Tuesday. Ds2 rolled over! It was only the second time he has done it and the class were very pleased for him. Ds2 loves going and seeing the boys and girls.

I love the christmas perineum! We went to the Christmas lights switch on last night and had my first mulled wine and mince pie so starting to feel festive but ds1s birthday is on the 9th Dec so no tree until the following weekend. We are going on the santa steam train on the 12th so will probably do it after that. I would love to have christmas somewhat like Finland or Canada where you can guarantee snow and go and cut down your own tree.

Our project nap had some success yesterday. I put ds2 in his bed bag and gave him his dummy as soon as he started eye rubbing and there was a bit of whinging but he fell asleep quickly. Today not so good. He is currently lying on me but I don't have ds1 today so I don't mind being trapped. These babies are fickle Freddies.

You guys have convinced me to get a star snug just need to decide on the colour umm decisions. Maybe fern or pea. I am another one who loves green.

Loves I would definately be going to krispie Kreme especially as you have plenty of people to eat them. I can't buy a box of 12 as I would totally eat at least 6 of them.

Fatty sorry you had a stressful night. Families can be hard. Dh doesn't speak to his brother for very valid reasons but it makes family occasions hard. It would break my heart if my boys ended up in this situation when they are older.

Breastfeeding has also been a bit more painful recently too. I think it changes as they get bigger also Ds is more distracted so can slip on and off a lot and it takes effort to make sure he is latched properly each time. On the positive side it is taking less time. With Ds1 I started swopping to bottles at 6 months dropping one feed a week until about 7 and half months. This time I might try to go a bit longer because that coincided with starting solids so I was completely confused about when to give food, breast or bottle. I think someone was asking about a weaning book recommdation. I used weaning made easy last time and really liked it. It combines info on purees and blw which I liked as we did both and it didn't seem to have an agenda which a lot of the anabel karmel/gill rapley books can have. That just suited us but I have nothing against whatever method people choose.

Anyone indulging in black Friday shopping? I still need to get dh, mum and ds's Xmas presents so might just have a little browse. Shopping from my phone while trapped under a baby might prove to be expensiveGrin

everythingispeachy · 27/11/2015 12:49

Nolonger I just bite ds2 nails while he sleeps on me. They are so thin just now I am going to avoid the clippers for as long as poss. I remember cutting ds1 finger when he was about 6 months old. The scream was awful.Sad

FattyNinjaOwl · 27/11/2015 12:55

I bite nails too.
My tree is up. We love Christmas. DDs birthday is the 18th of December, but I can't wait until a week before to put the tree up. My brothers is the 17th (the one who was here last night) and my older brother (one who doesn't speak to us) is the 21st. Me and my youngest brother were sensible and had birthdays not near Christmas Grin (he's April, I'm august)

mzzzf · 27/11/2015 15:27

I've got a December birthday so normally the tree goes up after that, but it's the 1st so nota problem!! Well done Fatty for getting in amongst it already! [santa]

I have the sleepieat baby today. She's wanting to nap 1-1.5hrs after waking. Normally she goes at least 2hrs in between. Hope she's not coming down with anything... But it has meant I've had more calls to be a human mattress today!

Aw gawwwwd I wanna-a-krispie-kreeeeeeme - or 7!!!

randomsabreuse · 27/11/2015 16:00

Wish me luck - just put on my first cloth nappy. It's hired and I am not sure it's the best fit - a little loose around the legs. Will sort the next one in a second once she's finished feeding. If she doesn't squirm off while still attached!

MaGratgarlik1983 · 27/11/2015 16:12

Our tree goes up Dec 1st! I love all the Xmas stuff! We are going through teething here he'd been like.it alk week anyone know how long it's meant to hurt them before any come through? Poor little dude! Good luck with the cloth nappy random!

Tindel · 27/11/2015 16:29

nolonger we actually use nail clippers we got in a Xmas cracker, as they are really small. I either do them when J is asleep or grumpy - I figure if he's cross, I might as well kill two birds with one stone.

Poor J is covered in eczema - it doesn't seem to bother him, apart from when I put the cream on, but it looks and feels horrible. Combined with the cradle cap, he is definitely a bit scabby looking. He fell asleep on the car, so have left him to doze in his car seat for a bit.

kbro79 · 27/11/2015 16:53

Oh my god aidan has been napping since 3pm. He never naps this long ever!!!

randomsabreuse · 27/11/2015 18:59

No leaks yet. Just questioning if I'm brave enough to try overnight tonight... she sleeps so well normally so don't want to spoil it but would prefer to give them a decent test. Also means I'll have a better load tomorrow for washing.

Breastfeeding having the odd Bitey baby situation. Fortunately no teeth but her jaw is strong! Needing more lanisoh than when she was a newborn!

We seem to alternate days where naps happen and those where they don't. Today is a non nap day.

Drat - attention required - will try and go back through the thread in a bit. DH looks like having busy on call sadly!

mzzzf · 27/11/2015 20:28

Kbro that is a mammoth nap!

Random - that's a bold shout to go overnight with a loose nappy. You might have more washing than you need in the morning Wink

So I nipped out to do a big shop and come home to find DH upstairs trying to out DD asleep at 6pm! Well done for trying but WTF?! He said she was crying, seemed in pain and was hungry. So he gave her paracetamol, extra milk and tried putting her in her cot.

Now I'm back upstairs trying to do the normal bedtime routine but failing as she's a bit out of whack. She's not been in pain with me at all today, and I was only gone 1hr 20mins, I'm guessing it was her usual 'I'm pissed' off cry that should have lead to a catnap that he heard... Oh Lordy! Thankfully God loves a trier!!! Grin

It's DHs birthday on Sunday so I'm thinking of heading into Glasgow for some bagpipe action to celebrate at Andrews day. They've a whole weekend of festivities. I may suggest taking the train so we can have some mulled wine Grin

Had the dirtiest Friday night dinner, hotdogs with onions, mooootard and ketchup! Disgustingly unhealthily delish!!! Grin

Happy Friday night all round folks GrinWine

randomsabreuse · 27/11/2015 20:44

Just the first one I tried was loose fortunately - scrawny legged child. I have a selection from a nappy library and that particular one will be washed and put at the bottom of the pile! No leaks but she was fussing so changed pretty early - think I over boosted. Next 2 got pooed in in quick succession - was too hasty at the sound! Current one was a better fit so will see how long we last before wet nappy meltdown!

Frolicacid · 27/11/2015 21:08

Evening all!

I think Ds has started teething. We have red cheeks, loads of dribble and lots of chewing. He's been chomping on my fingers all day. Last night and tonight at about 5 he got really angry and was doing quite frantic chowing down and getting mega pissed off if I took my finger away.
What are you giving your teething babies? We've given calpol both nights, which has definitely worked. But, I was wandering if you have any recommendations for anything else? I feel like he's had quite a bit of calpol in the past couple of weeks with the cold and now this.
I remember my sister using some sort of powder. Dh has gone to asda in search of something. I've ordered a neckerchew thing to try as well. We tried him with a teether but his coordination isn't quite there and he kept throwing it away and getting annoyed.

nolonger, Ds' nails are like weeds. I snip them with my nail scissors while he is asleep.

It was me asking for a weaning book recommendation, thank you everything.

We need a tree pic fatty [santa]

I LOVE the sound of your dirty dinner mzzf. I had a chicken kebab and am expecting a delivery of Malteser tree's when dh gets back from asda.
Definitely get the train so you can have mulled wine.

Good luck random. I use cloth most of the time now in the day, but I haven't tried overnight yet as Ds is such a good sleeper and I don't want to risk him waking.

Well done on the good nap kbro. Ds seems to have lost his long napping powers this week Sad.

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 27/11/2015 21:25

Hi frolic, the powder was probably Ashton and Parsons (www.boots.com/en/Ashton-Parsons-Infants-Powders-20-Sachets_1674/). Some people swear by it. Personally I didn't find anything really worked apart from a bit of calpol if the pain was really bad and a steady supply of things to chew on. When they are weaning cucumber sticks straight from the fridge are good for soothing sore gums.

Teething is like most things baby-related, you can throw a lot of money at it but most of what you buy doesn't really make too much of a difference.

MaGratgarlik1983 · 27/11/2015 21:45

One word frolic. Calgel!

sianihedgehog · 27/11/2015 22:12

Is there a decibel threshold above which it's legal to smother your partner for snoring?

Asking for a friend, obv

Frolicacid · 27/11/2015 22:33

Dh did good at asda!
The teething granuals are either brilliant, or Ds was so shocked to have something poured in his mouth that he went quiet instantly. I'm happy either way.
I'm also happy because I ate 3 Malteser reindeer things Smile

Tell your friend siani that she can probably get away with diminished responsibility if she kills him for snoring when she's all hormonal and stuff after a baby.

kbro79 · 27/11/2015 22:38

Don't know if there is any games of throne fans but I saw this and made me smile.

So the nap lasted 3 hours. It was not a project nap nap though. Just an on me nap. But normally the longest I can get out of him is 40 mins so I was pleased.

I think DS is teething too. We've introduced Sophie the giraffe but he's a bit lost of what to do with it. He also has nappy rash which he's never had before. He seems ok in himself so we haven't given him anything yet.

Right off to start trying to get him into bed. He is wide awake so wish us luck

Wow busy thread today! Can't possibly answer individually so briefly.....

Weaning book- if you are on the parenting club at boots apparently you can get a free Ella's kitchen one around 6 months it should appear on your app/ email.

Teething- we've tried a cheap water filled ring that can go in the fridge that he quite likes but requires a or of effort on our part either holding it in his mouth or giving him back every time he drops it. Also bought a MAM one today that looks like a giant dummy and he seemed to quite like, we have baby bonjela for the pain but doesn't seem to do much as I think it's his jaw rather than the surface of gums that are hurting at the mo. I want to try some bickiepegs as recommended by a friend but keep forgetting to buy but in general despite all this he prefers his hand to chew!!

Nails- I must have to cut literally every 3/4 days they grow so quick and he's forever scratching his face before i can get to them! We have a baby nail clipper and he is quite good in letting me do them- do them after a bath so they are super soft. I did once Nick his finger and felt terrible but he didn't even notice let alone cry! A friend used to do her sons when he was asleep.

I may or may not have just spent £100+ buying things for DS online at babygap and BhsBlush also got him a jumperoo today reduced to £49.99 at toys r us- we were getting this for him anyway as a Xmas pressie so glad I waited till it reduced. The gap and Bhs stuff is all 6 months plus in sizes as we have literally nothing when he gets that size and I figured we will have to buy stuff eventually so I may as well buy it whilst it's got mega money off. Not bought anything we wouldn't have bought at some point anyway (so why am I trying so hard to justify it!!)

Fatty- glad your family troubles got sorted.

Chicken kebab here tonight too frolic! Very jealous of your malt easer trees though I literally don't have a single treat in the house and DH is on nights- a good thing a suppose stop me getting tempted! I'm literally drooling at all this Krispy Kreme talk though!

Think DS is going through a growth spurt- he has had a 4am feed the last 4 nights and polished 6oz and then today instead of his usual 5x 6pz bottles which he rarely finished most of he's had 5x 7oz and drained them!! He is desperately trying to sit up himself too- needs very little support and when in his bouncy chair is doing little ab crunches trying to sit up bless him! Think I'm going to get MIL to dig out the bumbo we got given that she's storing for us as he would probably be very happy to sit in that. Also we've decided even though his jumperoo is for Xmas he can use it as soon as he's ready as I think he'll love it.

Right going to try for some zzzZzz sending sleepy Mugabe wishes to all!

FattyNinjaOwl · 28/11/2015 00:09

This is my older 2 decorating the tree. It's a complete mish mash of colour. We go for tacky in this house Grin

Biccie pegs are great. As is bonjela. But what works for some may not work for others. As with everything else teething is just trial and error. I have no problems with Nathan holding stuff in his mouth. He sometimes gets annoyed and drops it though!

He's been feeding every couple of hours again these past few days. Greedy sod.

Oh I was going to wait until Dec 1st to put tree up, but DS1 needed cheering up after he's been feeling so poorly.

Right, then I will just down this voddy and then be off to bed! Night mugabeans.

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 28/11/2015 02:17

Oooo, are malteaser trees like the malteaser Easter bunnies? If so I need to get some in my life! Yum Smile

lily you are very good not to have any treats in the house. How do you not chew on DS in the small hours??

frolic yay! Well done your DH on a successful supermarket trip. Hope you are having a quiet night now.

siani I'm not sure that what you are suggesting is even a crime in most places. Diminished responsibility applies.

fatty good Christmas tree, we do colourful and tacky here too. I bought grumpy 2 her "first Christmas" bauble today. Cheesy but I love it.

Grumpy 1 had a star costume fitting with my Mum today. Very cute. I am definitely going to be a sobbing Mum in the audience on the big day.

Right, have downed my babycham so back to sleep...

Lilydreams · 28/11/2015 04:17

Kbro- I want to get a Sophie for DS mainly because every baby seems to have one and I don't want him to be left out! Oh dear pfb much!!?

Fatty- how cute are those 2 doing the tree! We have 2 because I'm a complete control freak and don't let DH anywhere near the normal one- it's all colour coordinated and as symetrical as I can manage so we got a white on with all different coloured decs that he's allowed to do himself although I find myself 'neatening' it up here and there! Need to stop as when DS is bigger it will probably be the one he does! Good to hear another recommendations or biccie pegs.

Slowife- I do get close to nibbling him, especially the chubby cheeks omm nom nom! Haha!

Just got an email I earnt £3.89 cash back on my babygap splurge- makes it more justifiable to DH surely!? Grin

Wow the rains just started hammering against the window, time to get snuggled back in bed if DS allows.

mzzzf · 28/11/2015 07:05

Gaaaah!
I've not Saturday lie in as DH is 'too tired' and I quote feeling 'a bit scratchy throated'!!!!

DD isn't taking morning feed. Have done 3 x poo nappy changes since up at 6am. Also have scoffed chocolate already!!

Thank goodness for Raa Raa the noisy lion - coffee time!!!!!!

Back later for less selfish post x

kbro79 · 28/11/2015 08:24

Mzzzf my DH is the same. I asked him to try and settle DS after I'd done about 3 night feeds myself so he swaps sides with me in bed and lies there with his hand on DS. DS starts getting more worked up. Eventually I crack and tell him he has to pick him up so he does but refuses to get out of bed. So DS just sits on him screaming till I crack and take him. Then feed him and have a bit of a go. DH says he sorry, thought it was middle of the night not morning. But then doses back off!! Sorry for long self indulgent rant. I am happy to take the strain of night feeds during the week but don't think too much to ask for some weekend support!!! And breath.....

Fatty what a cute pic and I love the tree!!

mzzzf · 28/11/2015 08:49

Kbro - its fucking annoying isn't it!! All that really gets me through all of this is that I know I'm building an awesome bond with her that he just doesn't have, and if he continues to lie in bed, won't get the chance to build with her when she's a baby.
We must must must take it as the ultimate compliment that they only settle well for us because we are the bestest Grin
Well that's what I tell myself anyway!!!

The star costume sounds awesome, pic please!! Grin

And whoever it was that mentioned pretty little liars - you git!! I'm hooked Grin
