Apologies for the rubbish thread title - thought I'd cobble something together though!

kat I sympathise with you on the rainy boredom situation.
Some ideas:
Making camps
Getting lots of cushions on the floor to leap onto/between
Treasure hunting ie can you find something that is red/round/soft/starts with a t etc
Making flapjacks etc
Write numbers on paper & ask them to put that many toys next to it
Plastercine(sp?)

Trouble with entertaining little ones is that generally something keeps them entertained for a few minutes so it's exhausting (&messy) setting up activities & tidying away.

LaTristesse · 07/07/2012 14:29

Kat, we got so hacked off with the weather I got all of us kitted out with wet weather gear so we go out in all weathers now. Well worth the investment, even though I got most of it 2nd hand, we've got a lot of use out of it so far!
Otherwise DS likes playing buses- line up some chairs, bring down some cuddlies, he gets to play driver, taking their money and handing out tickets etc, keeps him quiet for half hour or so! Or put some music on and do some dancing, burns off some calories too Wink.

Sad just left my little Mr and am feeling really anxious. I no he'l be fine with my mum but even so. We decided I'm not going to stay over so DPs not going to drink & will drive back when it finishes - will be early hours of the morning but least I can do a night feed and be there in the morning. Drinking wise will I be ok to have a glass of wine - maybe 2 then BF at 4am or will I have to express and dump for a bit?

LaTristesse · 07/07/2012 17:38

From The Breastfeeding Network's fact sheet on alcohol in Breastmilk: 'The effect of maternal consumption of alcohol is insignificant except at high or regular consumption levels'.

You should be fine! Have fun Smile

Link if you want to have a read x

HenriettaChicken · 07/07/2012 18:58

Great link, LaTristesse. It turns out I've been very cautious with my drinking: usually waiting until after Bill's final feed (8.30-9) to have a drink.

There's such a lot of scaremongering around, isn't there!

Flisspaps · 07/07/2012 19:38

I'm a bad mother, I've been having a drink whilst feeding DS and not thinking twice about it. I figured it's not going to go into my mouth and straight into his.

I will add, I'm not talking a holiday measure of gin here, it's a beer with tea (DS times his tea to eat at the same time as us, whenever we eat Hmm)

kat not hugely imaginative with rainy day ideas here either - tend to do baking or painting. But mostly would put wellies & raincoat on and head to the library - get books for bedtime and a DVD for instant gratification when we're home. Pre-DS2 I would sometimes move the furniture/cushions about and set up an obstacle course for ds1 - get a stop watch and whistle and try and wear him out as much as possible.

F still has this blinking cold that's made him occasionally wheezy. Took him to gp yesterday where of course he couldn't hear anything, but the wheeze is back again today. Still at least today I didn't get completely covered with a projectile vom so he must be getting better. And last night he slept 7:30-2:30, woke for a short feed and change then slept till 7. Ds1 was pestering me from 6 though, the bugger.

kat1885 · 07/07/2012 19:51

Thanks for the ideas, will do the treasure hunts etc. Think the main consensus is get wet weather gear and go out which is a great plan as ds1 is the Duracell bunny!

Bearcrumble · 07/07/2012 20:05

Kat - if he likes maths maybe baking a cake because he'd enjoy weighing all the ingredients on the scales and talking about numbers/fractions etc? And you get a CAKE at the end.

Bearcrumble · 07/07/2012 20:10

Henrietta - Would love to go to the Fat Duck. Maybe for our 25th...

£750 though, eek. I assume that's the tasting menu + v v v expensive wine?

I had a newborn shoot done by a friend who's a baby photographer. My FB profile pic is one.

HollyPockett · 07/07/2012 20:51

I went to my friend's house last night and he pored me a vodka, was most def a holiday measure Blush. DD never wakes up for a late feed, but of course she did last night! I didn't think about it until she'd finished...

DH has gone out tonight, DD is fast asleep and I have no clue what to do with myself!!

Bunsouttheoven · 07/07/2012 21:47

Any of your babies like white noise/vacuum cleaner/hair drier etc? Mine does. I found a free app for my phone called Relax Melodies. It's got loads of different sounds & you can layer them to get that perfect sleep inducing soundSmile I have found it good for helping calm my little lad in the pushchair or if he goes off on one & won't feed/sleep etc & is just crying. Worth a try since it's free, though there is a danger that you will also fall asleep too. Wink

Nordicmom · 08/07/2012 07:03

Hi you guys! DD slept through for the first time here last night!!!! Did 8pm - 6 am!!! Long may it continue but have a bad feeling it was a one off ...

JambalayaCodfishPie · 08/07/2012 07:34

nordic DD has slept through 2 of the last 3 nights too! 7pm-7am! Grin

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 08/07/2012 08:41

Im not expecting sleeping through any time soon here, ds1 didnt do it til 9m! Grin
I dont mind though, I just get DH to do as many of the early mornings as possible while I stay in bed til 11 Wink

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 08/07/2012 08:45

And, im ready to be flamed, but i dont worry at all about what i drink while BF Blush

digitalgirl · 08/07/2012 10:31

Well done nordic's DD!

F did 8:30-5:30 and that was waking from leaking through his nappy. Only fed for 5 mins. Then woke for the day at 8 but didn't feed till 9...boobs like rocks.

Bearcrumble · 08/07/2012 13:27

I have a small sherry more evenings than not after toddler DS goes to bed. Sainsbury's medium dry amontillado - I love it.

How was the big do, Hayley?

Bunsouttheoven · 08/07/2012 17:11

I would like a giant glass of pimms jug but am once again trapped under this baby again.

The lactation consultant told me that if you are safe to be holding the baby after some drinks then you are safe to bf.

kat1885 · 08/07/2012 18:01

How are you all today?

We went for a walk earlier in the sun and had a pub lunch. Walking home we got caught in a torrential downpour (lucky for a we had the raincover, unlucky for ds1 we had no coats).

I tied my cardi so it covered most of ds1 including his head so dh and I were just in t shirts, got soaked. Was very fun though and ds1 thought it was highly amusing.

We have chilled for the rest of the day, me in my pjs as had to change anyway and wasn't going anywhere. Suns out again now but its a bit grey and don't want to risk it.

Going to visit ds1 school tomorrow I can't wait!

laughingGnomette · 09/07/2012 10:36

Buns - DS loves the hairdryer, infact it's the only thing that'll get him to sleep sometimes. Great idea about the app. He has started having regular meltdowns in the buggy so I might pop my phone in there with him next time and see if it settles him :)

kat - that sounds like a lovely day despite the downpour. Typical British weather eh? Good luck with the school visit today.

We're visiting family this week. DS has been getting a bit overwhelmed by all the visitors and noise but is doing really well and has provided some lovely smiles for everyone.

I've been asked to do a video diary nursing bra review for a new tv program on Sky! The bra is currently being made for me and I'm not sure what it'll be like but hopefully I'll get on well with it. Watch this space... :)

justhayley · 09/07/2012 10:44

Lol arh Kat that sounds like my day I had a White shirt on, strolling in the park and by the time I got home looked like I had taken part in a wet t shirt competition!

Hey bear night out was really good thank you. By midnight my boobs were exploding out my dress and really sore so I went to DPs room for 20 mins and hand expressed.Grin it was really nice to spend a night with DP alone did really miss DS though.

Worried about my little Noah, this is the third day he hasn't pooed! He's having lots of wet nappies but thats it. he's woke
Up this morning with a bit of a cold so maybe that has something to do with it. Just cooling some water now so hopefully that will get things moving.
Hes also eating less going 4 hours without food rather than the usual 2. Should I be calling the HV or GP at this point?

Nordicmom · 09/07/2012 11:37

DD slept through again:)! She does about 10 h not 12 yet but it's amazing ....
Hayley, DD used to do one poop a day sometimes go 2 days without one . This was the case untill a few weeks ago but now she does them all the time. Little and often . Hopefully will settle down soon . Drinking her milk now in record time too . I used to struggle to get her to finish her 5 oz ever . She'd always stop at around 4 oz ( that's why she went from 90+ centile to 50 ) but now is finishing it every time and would probably have a bit more too . Formula packet says the amount goes up to 6 oz at 3 m so I guess she's getting ready for that .
She's definitely changing :) . Is really pushing herself up when on her stomache , is interested in the toys on the play gym and grabbing at things but not toys yet. Lots of smiles and laughing . Making funny little noises all the time. Half rolling but not doing a full stomache to back or the other way yet. Feels like she's growing up so quickly before my eyes. This time it's all going on fast forward since life is busy with DS unlike when I just had one baby . DS is on summer holidays now for 7 1/2 w. Our only trip will be to Finland in August so it'll be a long quiet summer for us compared to the last three when we've gone away 2/3 times and run around to activities etc in between . Unfortunately can't rely on inlaws for child care at all since motherinlaw is sick with colon cancer . Her surgery was a success but am quite sure she'll have chemo next . On top of everything else DH is changing jobs again since he was offered a really good opportunity , so can't take time off for a holiday in the next month ... Would have loved to go somewhere nice as a family . We 'll have to escape in October instead to somewhere warm:) ...
