Sorry to hear things are bad for some of you vent away here always happy to listen!!

Small fry compared to some of your woes but have had an Expensive week here, turns out washing machine guy hadn't caused the leak after all so we needed a plumber to sort it, then a flooring chap to look at the lounge floor and yup its ruined. He's a friend if ours but still suggested the whole job will be £2.5-3k to replace so need to battle with the insurers and my car been to garage at a cost of £300. This morning been to dentist and my high sugar pregnancy diet has resulted in me needing a filling in one of my lower molars the nhs excemption card will only cover a silver filling but vanity means ill have to pay for a white one DH thinks I'm mad but if im not going to scrimp over my teeth Grin

Its like summer here so been out for a long walk in the sun and now watching one born every minute.....ah it all seems so long ago now.

Coolhand · 01/03/2012 16:36

Hawthers really sorry that you are having such a hard time as well but you have been through the mill with feeding and I am in awe of how well you have stuck to it. You are an amazing mum in my opinion.

You're also entitled to have a short fuse - sleep deprivation and coping with the demands of burgeoning family equal short fuse.

OiMissus · 01/03/2012 16:52

determined and hawthers PLEASE do not think of yourselves as failures as this is evidently not the case. You have both made huge sacrifices for your children and are doing your utmost to love and support them. Times are tough, but they will get better. - I hope you both get a breakthrough soon/turn the corner to happier times.
It has been a glorious day here -still is. We had our swimming lesson, then mum came for lunch before we visited granddad's nursing home. (it's so sweet, all the resident's sit in the lounge, and we have to re-introduce Alistair every week and many times during each visit!)
I then chatted with my neighbours over the garden fence. They make their own wine, I learn. I shall be more friendly! They have promised to give me fresh trout when he goes fishing next. That's lovely.
...but i want wine! Grin

NorthernChinchilla · 01/03/2012 16:58

Hawthers, you are not a shit anything, you're an excellent parent who's battled with a really tough start with your DS. You sound like you're having a rotten time of it at the moment, but we'll help if we can on here. Hope the day's improved a bit.

Sounds like you and your DH need a bit of time together to talk about it all Determined- you say you shouldn't lose your temper, but then neither should he! Hope you get your wee bit of sanity at your Mum's.

I would always go for a white filling figgy, no question, despite the Shock at the cost of the floor, just what you need...

DS had fed around 2.45, and just as I was about to settle down and feed him about 20 minutes ago he fell asleep on me... so he's upstairs having a snooze. Who needs routine?! We should get another couple of (cough) perfect baby days before another non-sleeping one.

Nursery spot booked, appointment made for accounts, and good natter with friend who came round. Spent several hours on work stuff too. Have prepared a bottle for OH so I can have my treat of chatting away to an old friend tonight, so not a bad day at all.

NorthernChinchilla · 01/03/2012 16:59

No haddocks Oi? We need to keep our supply lines up!

mopsytop · 01/03/2012 17:23

It's like summer here!

Sorry to hear some of you have been having such a hard time :(

hawthers · 01/03/2012 17:39

Cheered up a bit after a nice walk in the sun but now discovered I've got a very sire blocked duct. An evening of sqeezing the shit out of it trying to clear it. Hmm glass of wine needed I think

YBR · 01/03/2012 17:55

On the topic of finger nails, BabyYBR woke herself with a shreek up by giving herself a huge scratch under one eye yesterday. I cut her fingers whiled DH fed her. I thought it was fairly short time since we last trimmed them. Doh!

I've not been on much the last few days because my mum came to visit. She sent us out to the cinema and when we got back in she dumped BabyYBR in my arms saying good timing I was just about to change her nappy. I hadn't even got my coat off! The LO had filled up with poo though.

Had a busy day with LO's 2nd set of jabs (didn't get as vocally upset as I expected), "toddler" group and church lunch. Then DH took her out to a World Book Day event at the Children Centre and I managed to get some vegetable seeds planted in the greenhouse before having a nap. Just to increase your jealousy the LO has a 8 hour gap between feeds most nights now (having said that we'll probably have a really bad night tonight).

KateM77 · 01/03/2012 19:02

for the Wine hawthers. Glad you're feeling a bit better despite the blocked duct. You and determined are NOT failures in any way!

Had a pretty good day here. This really belongs on the other thread that someone (plu?) linked to a couple of days ago, but today I found myself saying to DD:
don't put glue in your raisins

and

That's Daniel's willy. Gently.

She then said "bye, bye Daniel's willy" when I put his nappy on Grin

aethelfleda · 01/03/2012 19:38

Pmsl at "bye bye to the willy" kate!

Evening all. Have decided to try a different tack tonight in the aim of getting ten minutes to myself: may backfire royally tonight but I'm not currently getting more than 3.5 hours in a row anyway...

dS is bathed, fed, swaddled and in bed. When he's "established" (as in a toddler), bedtime will be 7.30pm-6am (ho ho) so I'm pretending now. Baby monitor is on. Dinner is cooking (sausage pasta bolognaise, nowt exotic). No sign of Dh but at least we can eat when he gets in.

hawthers, do not beat yourself up. I have a short fuse at the moment too: all of us not getting sleep are the same. It impacts
On our DHs in that all of them are being unappreciative too: this os what happens with the huge majority of newborns. It WILL get better and you ARE doing a lot better than you think. What will help is talking about it, vent here, and try to find someone you can talk to in real life too if you can. This WILL pass, and make sure you get some help if every day's a bad day as PND is a tricksy bugger and can sneak up on you. But it is normal to have some of these feelings, it's the impact and lack of good days/optimism it can get better that Makes the dfference between a tough patch and actual depression. Keep posting (((hug))- that goes for the rest of you too!!

aethelfleda · 01/03/2012 19:49

......aaaabd ten minutes after posting that guess who's wailed and is now feeding...sigh... A whole 30 mins in the basket. Whoo.
Oh well, I tried. Do they still sell laudanum?

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 01/03/2012 20:06

Well tonight went sort of peacefully (minus) some shouting whilst having her hair washed but other than that I have a peaceful household Smile

Hawthers hope your doing okay tonight?

Are any of you close to Portsmouth/Southampton/Brighton for a meet up?

jigglebum · 01/03/2012 20:18

Oh I envy those of you whose DCs go down at 7 ish and give you an evening. I keep trying but like aethel I might get 30 mins before another feed is required. At least tonight it gave me the chance to get DS out of the bath and do stories etc and tidy up, but just as I sat down freya woke up again - sigh. I know she will eventually go down like her brother does, but seems a long way off at the moment. DH out tonight (at a meeting to stress about the business again) so all down to me.

Had quite a nice day as weather was lovely, so took F for a walk whilst DS at preschool.

I have another one to add to the funny things that toddlers say kate - we were at speech and language in the waiting room. DS put his hands down his pants onto his bottom so I asked him why and told him it wasnt very nice - his response - " I am trying to catch a fart to throw it away - there " - with associated hand gestures and in a very loud voice! It was hard not to laugh!

jigglebum · 01/03/2012 20:21

determined my parents are portsmouth area so could arrange a meet up when I am visiting them sometime perhaps.

Anyone Dorset way (hopeful but unlikely I think)?

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 01/03/2012 20:25

Jiggle That would be great Smile

KateM77 · 01/03/2012 20:40

Grin at the fart catching jiggle

aethelfleda · 01/03/2012 20:47

Have a Brew with me ladies, I've just put DS down again...

Well done Determined for a better day.

Am definitely going to put away this packet of chocolate digestives before I eat the entire lot....

msbuggywinkle · 01/03/2012 20:50

My littler two have been asleep for ages, the ADHD creature is still boinging about downstairs. Literally. She is bouncing in a circle of three beanbags and the sofa. While singing and having a story read to her. And has been for two hours now.

One day we will manage to wear her out!

OiMissus · 01/03/2012 20:58

I forgot to add my shriek at the floor replacement bill figgy. I really, really hope that the insurance pays up.
My LO is asleep. If tonight goes like last night, he may sleep til after 5. Fingers crossed.
And he has only done one poop today , at the same time as yesterday. It was a big nappy filler, but I caught it moments before it would have burst out everywhere. He seems quite comfortable though.

OiMissus · 01/03/2012 21:01

Sorry aethel, I can't join you for coffee, it'll spoil the taste of my wine. (a Tempranillo) Shock

OiMissus · 01/03/2012 21:44

Y'know Northern, I was beginning to worry about the depletion of the world's haddock stocks. Maybe for minor misdemeanours we should use fish fingers?

hawthers · 02/03/2012 00:15

Gah it all went down hill after my earlier optimism. Ds1 was a little tyke and kicked off all afternoon and evening, ds2 grizzled for England, blocked boob got significantly worse and had a row with h.

Tomorrow has to be better,

Anyone got any bright ideas on how to unblock a boob? It looks like i've got a milk blister on the nipple and I just can't seem to clear it and drain the duct. It's fecking painful and I've been sqeezing it really hard to try to get things moving but with no success. Poor old boob

LittleMissFlustered · 02/03/2012 01:16

One of the ladies at boob group had a milk blister, she ended up sterilising a needle and putting a hole in it >_<

aethelfleda · 02/03/2012 03:01

Actually had an hour of "quality time" with DH tonight and no baby on lap :all we did was eat dinner, natter without any grumbling at rach other (woo!), and watched a bit of "bleak old shoppe of Stuff" (which seems funny in small doses). Ds whimpered, short feed then put him back. It's amaxing how one baby-free hour can be a mental recharge...

mopsytop · 02/03/2012 03:28

hawthers ow re: milk blister, you poor thing! I hope tomorrow is a better day for you also.

aethel, glad you got a small bit of time. The first evening I got to actually eat dinner with my husband felt amazing! It doesn't happen every night as minimopsy cries a lot between sixish and half nineish most days but things are defs improving, especially now she's feeling better. Yesterday she only cried until half seven and then slept until half eleven! Amazing! Slept from ten to three! Only woke up briefly when husband got her up to feed her at half eleven. Hope things improve soon for you too. And hope this marks an actual improvement for us, not a one off :)

Going out tonight for a meal with friends, husband is babysitting... Wish he could come too but you can't have everything :) and will be lovely to have a night out!
