New Year - New Thread!!

Hope you all had a lovely festive season!

I went for a nice walk in the park today as it was lovely & sunny. Sneezed violently half way round and realised my pelvic floor integrity ain't what it used to be. Which got me thinking about New Years resolutions!

  1. DO MORE PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES!!!
  2. Get Toned and Fit
  3. Get pregnant
  4. Sort out the garden

Obviousy number 3 may have an impact on 1 and 2!!

OP posts:

how are things angeliz? we're thinking of you, xx

i have a question for you all:

what are you doing for the little ones 1st birthday?
i have so many ideas and one problem, the flat isn't big enough to fit everyone - so please tell me your plans........

gossifer · 04/01/2006 20:07

oooh and sorry starlover, how is linus now? hope you manage a better nights sleep, its exhausting isn't it?

Blondeinlondon · 04/01/2006 20:15

hello
we are having a party with our new baby friends for all the babies at once - probably in a local restaurant - doing a secret santa style gift giving

on DS's actual bday we will be away in a nice hotel for a wedding
DS will be with the grandparents!!

can I ask how everyone is doing with naps?

I am attempting to get DS back into some sort of routine now the jet lag has worn off - are you doing one nap or two? or none?

Hazellnut · 04/01/2006 20:37

hello all !! The nice man from dell came today and I am up and running again - hoorah !! Think I have caught up but apologies if I miss anything out !!

Angeliz, I am so pleased things are looking positive. I have been thinking of you and been desperate to get back on here to see how you are. Fingers crossed things continue in this manner.

Hmm new years resolutions - definitely lose weight and tone in the first 6 months and then I think try for pregnancy in the second 6 months.... but we'll see !!

New Year sounded lovely goss. We spent it at some friends who have 2 little girls so we had a nice meal and stayted the night. Quiet but nice.

Sleep here is also a bit absent. DD was ill for a while and still has a runny nose which may be contributing. She wakes up 3 or 4 am and then won't settle for 2 hours until we give in and put her in our bed ! Not good. Don't know what to do at all.... Today I decided to try and get her to have lots of sleep during the day as she has taken to only having an hours nap during the day and I thought I might try reverse psychology. However, she now won't go to sleep - dh is up there trying to soothe her......

DD has a go at spoon feeding and if in the right mood manages to do it if it is loaded up and put in her hand. If not in the mood she either won't take the spoon or flicks the food round the room !! She is standing more and more on her own but isn't walking - if we try adn get her to she sits down and crawls... its far easier that way !!

dd's first birthday is in 20 days time . We are sharing her party with a couple of baby friends who were both born the day after. However, we've hired a hall (although not paid for yet) and I just got a confirmation letter through saying no alcohol allowed . Its not like we'd have tons but it;'d be nice to have a toast or something... so not sure what we'll do !

oh and LOL at the piece of wood BiL. I know I shouldn't laugh - how strange is she ?!

Hope Linus, and other poorly babies, are feeling better. Its a rough time of year isn't it .

Right off to see

picnikel · 04/01/2006 20:37

Generally one nap a day here, BiL - 2 hours or so in the afternoon.Although if I go for a walk in the morning she often nods off in the pushchair and then is a b*gger to get down in the cot in the afternoon and ends up sleeping on my lap.

We're away on holiday on her 1st birthday & are such neglectful parents that it was weeks after we booked that we realised - oops . We'll probably do a joint party with our NCT group if we can arrange it before or after the holiday.

Have just heard that a friend's baby (same age as dd) is in hospital with meningitis although thankfully apparently recovering well. It's just awful, I know I'd go to pieces if anything happened like that. My friend is a really strong person, but how horrible for her & her Dh .

W0MBAT · 04/01/2006 20:56

Picnickel - sorry to hear about your friend but glad baby is doing well. I would be a nervous wreck if it was me.

Welcome back Hazellnut! Your new years resolutions are exactly like mine. Really would like to get slim and toned before getting pregnant again.

For dd's 1st birthday, I am doing a small party for close family and friends and then a big party with my NCT group.

Sorry to hear about all the ill babies. There seems to be a lot of bugs going around at the moment.

W0MBAT · 04/01/2006 20:57

As for naps, my dd has two naps (1 hour and 2 hours), and sleeps 10-12 hours at night. We have had our fair share of sleepless nights though when she's been ill and teething. It's a real shock to the system when it happens.

futurity · 05/01/2006 12:58

Two naps here...v short one in the morning (which sometimes he doesn't have but is hell at lunchtime!) and then longer one after lunch. In the last week he has finally slept until 7 but I am sure it won't last!

Got DS1's 4th birthday in 2 weeks so got to get through that before I think about Sams!

starlover · 05/01/2006 15:22

hi all!

no idea what we're doing for Linus's birthday. Probably just a little tea at my mum and dad's place with a few friends and family. Nothing too huge... after all it isn't like he'll remember it! lol

Linus is still having 2 naps a day, although we go through phases where he will only have one after lunch! he tends to have about 30-45 mins in the morning and 1.5-2 hours in the afternoon.

He seems much better now, although has more teeth coming through. We're trying to track down an underarm thermometer because 2 separate nurses/doctors have said you get a more accurate reading than from an ear one. curently i am using our cheapo forehead strip one but he won't stay still long enough to get a proper reading!

sorry to hear about your friend's baby nik... glad s/he is recovering though.

fruitful · 05/01/2006 16:35

Oh darn it, do I have to do something for his birthday? The only really important thing is to take a photo of them with their cake, so in future years you can say "look, you had a party".

And he so doesn't need any more toys.

He is sleeping through every other night, and screaming a lot in between. Sigh. He WILL get there! Still throws more food on the floor than goes in his mouth - and still on spoon-strike, which makes it easy on the cooking I suppose.

No sign of him moving yet, hooray! I do not envy you lot with crawlers and walkers. Ds can sit still for, ooh, another 8 months?

Dh has started muttering about "the next one". Splutter, choke. Maybe we'll get a cat.

Hazellnut · 05/01/2006 17:02

SL - i suspect you may struggle getting Linus to sit still for an under the arm one. We have one, which was v. cheap in boots (£8 or something) but it takes a while to do the reading so dd is usually scremaing her head off by that point because we're trying to hold her still. Interesting though that you've been told they are more accurate as I was thinking of spending the money on an in-ny ear one but won't if that's the case !!

On the feeding one self subject, dd has decided she does not need a spoon for cereal. Yesterday, she ate a bowl of cereals by hand (with milk - picture the mess..) so this morning I tried rice crispies in the hope they would be too small and she refused to open her mouth for the spoon and sat scrunching the cereals with her hand so she got toast.

Last night dd wouldn't go to bed till 10pm (and she can usually be relied on to go to bed quite easily - its just she then gets up in the night) but she then slept till 9.30 so hasn't had much sleep today, so will see if she can combine going to bed at 7 with the sleeping 12 hour thing. I can't believe how naive I used to be to think that once they mastered the sleeping through they wouldn't ever go backwards........

roosmum · 05/01/2006 20:42

hi all .... mmmm party!
we have our first 1st b'day bash next wed, so i'll be checking it out for tips for roo's b'day.
am thinking just a few mum & babe friends round tho, which we often do as a group anyway.
ooh & a yum home-made cake, which dh will prob make. in the shape of a 1?? undecided.
is a big i am 1 banner naff? or cute? i think cute but...?

are you ok tipex? & hello btw!
are you wasted yet SL?

starlover · 05/01/2006 20:45

no no, not wasted yet. think dp is still about an hour away.
think a 1 banner is very cute!

picnikel · 06/01/2006 10:35

Off work today, poor dd quite ill - very chesty, wheezy and miserable . Keep telling myself it's probably just a virus but feel 99% anxious mummy and 1% GP so am taking her to the doctors this afternoon.

Hope everyone's well and the poorly babies are on the mend. It's awful seeing them ill & miserable isn't it?

The banner's a lovely idea I think!

Hazellnut · 06/01/2006 17:10

Nik - I hope dd is feeling better and the trip to the docs helped. There's so much going round at the moment .. roll on spring....

We've had a change of plan on the first birthday front. We've ditched the idea of hall and joint party as we've all just decided its too much faff and better to do something individually with familes and then we're going to go out for lunch. Feel much happier about this. Roosmum, the banner I think HAS to be done and the cake in the shape of a 1 - how about a swiss roll iced !!!!

Finally I have decided I spend too much time on the phone - yesterday dd was picking up the phone and putting it to my ear... hmmmm...

How are you doing Angeliz ?

Blondeinlondon · 06/01/2006 18:20

Hello

Nik - hope your little one is feeling better

We've had a busy day here. Saw our cleaning lady then went to the gym. Unfortunately the creche failed to give DS his lunch and I only realised much later so stuffed twice the food into him this evening!!

Hope everyone has a good weekend

roosmum · 06/01/2006 19:01

hope dd is ok nik (can we still call you nik??).
roo has never really been ill yet - touch wood - i'm dreading it happening tho, which i guess it will sooner or later...

hope you were stern with non-baby-feeding creche blonde, that's a shocker!

happy party planning HN, you'll be first to party...you can give us all your best tips
thought today, might take roo to an aquarium (with roosdad) for his 1st birthday, think he'd like that. there's one in hull, supposed to be fab.

picnikel · 06/01/2006 19:18

LOL at your dd on the phone, HN!!

DD seems a bit better, thanks! Had a slightly embarrassing trip to the GP as dd, having been wheezy & miserable all day, perked up on the way there and started grinning & waving at the receptionists before doing a very good impression of a well baby in front of the doctor with me saying "she was really ill when I made the appointment, honest!". Felt a bit of a pillock but am glad I got her checked before the weekend.

at poor starving ds, BiL. My gym creche has stopped giving any food now because of food allergies! Not that I've been for a while .

Nik is still fine btw !! Just fancied a change.

Blondeinlondon · 06/01/2006 19:38

I didn't realise he hadn't been fed until much later when he got upset seeing his chum eat a banana. They were busy when I picked him up so no chance for a chat but when I left him there were 3 staff and only him so not as if they were too busy to feed him!!
I shall have a word next week

pjsmum · 07/01/2006 13:12

Hello all hope all is well with your LO's. Started back at work on Thursday, havent actually done any teaching yet but was so tired. DD still hasnt slept at nursery so has been progressively more grumpy and tired when i've picked her up. was hoping for some nice play time before bedtime but no muck. last night she fell asleep at half 5, we woke her at 7 for bottle, bath bed etc she screamed blue murder with her eyes shut so after bottle put her pjs on and she slept through til 6.30 this morning. Maybe next week she'll get the hang of sleeping at nursery if not im going to have the baby from hell every night!!!

starlover · 08/01/2006 22:15
