New Year - New Thread!!

Hope you all had a lovely festive season!

I went for a nice walk in the park today as it was lovely & sunny. Sneezed violently half way round and realised my pelvic floor integrity ain't what it used to be. Which got me thinking about New Years resolutions!

  1. DO MORE PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES!!!
  2. Get Toned and Fit
  3. Get pregnant
  4. Sort out the garden

Obviousy number 3 may have an impact on 1 and 2!!

Hello all !!

Glad the house move is looking positive Starlover, we''ve decided to move too this year - probably start the ball rolling in the spring....

DD sleep still up the wall and all over the place, trying to sort out her daytime sleeps as if she naps too late she won't go to bed but won't go to sleep unless she's totally shattered. Today, I tried to put her down twice late morning, she wouldn't go and then she practically fell asleep in her high chair during lunch. She was scoffing away, picking up toast and eating it and opening her mouth for the spoon but all with her eyes shut !!

Good luck back at the CM Tipex, and hope dd sorts out her naps too PJsmum

starlover · 08/01/2006 22:22

we have some days where linus naps loads (ie today) and others when we're lucky if we get 20 mins...

thinking about not bothering with the morning one, although he is then grumpy by lunchtime... but we just don't seem to be able to fit 2 in!

Hazellnut · 08/01/2006 22:24

that sounds like Anna - today she slept for 2 hours once she'd fallen asleep by accident but two days ago 20 mins in the car and she was fine for it....

By the way, someone was looking for I'coo reviews on products earlier... will go and bump it as I think it was the 3 wheeled version of the one you have.

starlover · 08/01/2006 22:30

excellent... have just raved about it!

Blondeinlondon · 08/01/2006 22:45

Hi all
DS had one nap today - passed out in my lap so I just sat on the couch for 20 mins!
I must go to bed - feeling exhausted from chasing after him all day

starlover · 08/01/2006 22:55

i ought to be off to bed too! but can't tear myself away!

tipex/nik... don't suppose either of you saw my chest pain thread did you?

Blondeinlondon · 08/01/2006 22:58

I'm upstairs now so almost there...
My mumsnet addiction is bad!

Blondeinlondon · 08/01/2006 22:59

Missed your chest pain thread though

starlover · 08/01/2006 22:59

Blondeinlondon · 08/01/2006 23:02

must go, I can hear DH brushing his teeth
Night night sleep tight

Hazellnut · 09/01/2006 18:01

Hello All -- right serious question coming up... feel free NOT to answer it but... are you all going to have the MMR single jab (well your dds and dss) ? Originally we were going to have individual jabs and got all the stuff to register dd for them but never got round to it. Now it is almost upon us, I am thinking that we may as well have the combined as everyone I know has with no problems (well other than someone dh works with blames it for their dd's autism).

BTW, don't want to start a controversial debate but just wanted to see what people were doing so hope nobody minds me asking !

Also, has anyone bought a 'toddler manual' yet ? I love having an excuse to buy books and the current one I have ('what to expect..') lasts till 1 I don't know whether to get the 'what to expect the toddler years' or something else. Anyone got any recommendations ?? Its just something to dip into rather than follow religiously.

Phew...

Blondeinlondon · 09/01/2006 19:06

Hello
I know I ought to read up about it first but I think we will go for the combined jab
Not overly keen on the fact that they give another dose 3 mths later just in case the first one doesn't work
Can you put it off until 18 mths?

I bought the What to expect Toddler book
I was considering getting the Penelope Leach Social Toddler book too

gossifer · 09/01/2006 19:12

hazellnut
we are going to have the mmr for leon
the have been quite a few cases in our area/amongst our friends of kids getting measles and then little babies catching it, we live in london and we feel we have a responsibility to other children as well as our own
we've read a lot and watched documentaries and have decided that's the best thing for us
hope that helps!
kinda gave up on books a while ago but bought penelope leachs' 'your baby & child' for reference which i would not recommend (partly due to her recent comments in the papers) but it's not an easy reference book, i'm looking for a medical child reference book so that i stop bothering my doctor friend!!!
hi to everyone! still haven't decided what to do for leons birthday, i change my mind each day!
roosmu i love the banner idea! might have to pinch that one!
Bil - that's terrible about the lack of food at nursery - did you ever get to the bottom of it?
starlover - weeeeeeeeeeeeeehah about moving house, will be thinking of you and watching with interest, we need to move before we can have another babe

on the nap front, we got it sorted over xmas to leon having an hours nap after lunch from 12.30-2pm ish but since being back and out and about and at nursery 2 days a week sometimes 2 naps, i think it's gradually changing....

gossifer · 09/01/2006 19:14

Bil, whats the 'what to expect' book like?

starlover · 09/01/2006 19:17

we're doing singles at 18 months

Blondeinlondon · 09/01/2006 19:19

What to expect book is okay
Similar to the baby version
I ended up buying the US one as I wanted something to read when we were there
I assume the index is correct unlike the baby one which was wrong and very annoying!

Lack of food was at the gym creche - I am back there Weds so will ask about it then

fruitful · 09/01/2006 19:43

The second MMR dose is 3 years later, not 3 months later. Its before they start school. But it is just the same MMR jab again. (10% chance that the first one didn't take). Although you can pay for an immunity test to find out if your child needs the second jab.

Here are when some different countries recommend the MMR (first and second doses):

Singapore : 1-2 years : 11-12 years
Austria : 1-2 years (x2) :
Iceland : 18 months : 12 years
Canada : 12-18 months : 4-6 years
Finland : 14-18 months : 6 years
Denmark : 15 months : 12 years
Norway : 15 months : 12 years
Luxembourg : 15 months : 5 years
Ireland : 12-15 months : 4-5 years
USA : 12-15 months : 4-6 years
Netherlands : 14 months : 9 years
Germany : 11-14 months : 15-23 months
UK : 13 months : 3-5 years
Australia : 12 months : 4 years
Switzerland : 12 months : 15-24 months

This info is from here - worldwide immunization schedules from WHO . I picked some countries I thought I might trust (without thinking about it for more than a few seconds, you understand!).

The point being that leaving it till 15-18 months seems quite reasonable.

Hi fruitful, my red book thing from the HV is wrong

www.mmrthefacts.nhs.uk - government stuff in case anyone is interested, sorry to lazy for links

Hazellnut · 09/01/2006 20:15

ooh thanks all for your answers. I think I am veering towards the combined now and I guess when she is called for it - what is the reasoning for waiting ?

Will go and get the what to expect toddler years I think.

starlover · 09/01/2006 20:36

i got clogged down reading everything about mmr... and just couldn't decide.

i watched a few threads on here, and had a nice chat with jimjams. she believes her ds1 is vaccine damaged (although mainly from the baby jabs)

Anyway, she's done more research on it than I ever can I think and she explained a lot of stuff to me. In the end i just asked her if she was in my position, would she get it done. And she said yes (which surprised me!) but she would do singles at 18 months.
Now, there is a good reason for this but I can't remember exactly what it is

gossifer · 10/01/2006 09:33

ooooh poor jimjams and her ds
so 18 months is what some people go for then, maybe we'll wait until then
it's so weird, when leon was having his jabs before he was such a babe, it's going to be hard taking him in now he so much more of a person!

SnowmAngeliz · 10/01/2006 09:47

Hello all

No news yet Tipex, i'll let you know on Thursday afternoon+

We had single jabs for dd1 and intend to do the same for Amelia. Obviously measles is the first one wwe wanted but i think it was Rubella first, then measles and she didn't have mumps vaccine till she was nearly 4, i really wasn't worried though as it's not a horrific disease and although there can be side effects from mumps, i'm sure they are very rare!

I read far too much i suppose in a way after (stupidly enough) dd1 had her jabs and scared myself silly. I am terrified of jabs as much as the diseases and it's actually probably the only thing i hate about baby days. The enormity of the decisions you have to make for this tiny person.

Jimjams is the best person to chat to about it, she's great.

I have just ordered (yesterday) from Amazon,

The no cry sleep solution. (say no more...sigh...)

Attachment parenting

What Mothers do (especially when it looks like nothing)

Why love matters, how affection shapes a baby's brain

Letting go as children grow:the benefits of relaxed parenting for you and your child

Three in a bed, the benefits of sleeping with your baby

I will read the last one on my list if the first one doesn't work to make me feel better.

Dp is in childcare so will read most too.

Hazellnut · 10/01/2006 10:12

wow that's what I call a book purchase Angeliz ! I like the sound of 'what mothers do' although couldn't get a good idea of it on amazon - will have to go to a book shop !

Spent last night reading the nhs site and the jabs.org site - problem is you read one and think 'no they're right, mmr is fine' then the other and think 'oh no, its not fine'. Neither is objective. I had'nt realised though how widely MMR is used - basically all western countries seem to use it. DH is going to have a read too although he leans towards single jabs. I am keen to get her immunised asap for measles though as I was hospitalised with it as a toddler so we shall see....

Got my confirmation through that I have resigned from work - hoorah - although they are trying to diddle me out of some holiday pay - grrrrrr...

Right, back swimming today and then going to look at forward facing car seats - another question for you guys which I know we did ages ago but as it wasn't relevant to me I can't remember what everyone says but - dd is, as you know, almost 1 and has been sitting for 5-6 months, standing so clearly is quite strong. However, isn't yet 20 lbs (probably around 19). Which element do you think is important in goiing into forward facing - it is quite a squash to get dd into her seat and think she would be happier sitting up and facing out but should I really wait till she is 20 lbs ?

Blimey, I must be thinking too much lately... that will never do !

gossifer · 10/01/2006 10:12

Angeliz
What mothers do (when it looks like nothing) is a good, thought provoking read, looks like you've got some real food for thought there, enjoy!
Will be thinking of you thursday
