Happy belated birthdays, Muser and Cherub!

Re: 4-month regression, I also read that it could be related to babies' changing sleep patterns at 4mo which become more like adults, wrt REM (this always confuses me so can't get any more specific Blush). It's important that they know how to get back to sleep on their own, self-soothe, blah, blah, blah. So it's either food related or REM related?!?! Confused

Fortunately we're fine with the sleep again, but it's the FEEDING that is sometimes nightmarish! Don't know whether it's the wind and/or reflux, but he is getting more and more agitated during feeds, grunting & hitting & writhing (the latter being common w/ reflux). Anyone else have this? It's really upsetting b/c feeding times become frustrating for all of us! :(

We have all our stuff ready and out to pack tomorrow! :)

Muser · 16/07/2011 16:32

My birthday is the 14th cherub.

4 months is apparently when they start switching to an adult sleep cycle. I didn't try and insist on self settling though, carried on feeding her every time she woke up. I would put her back awake and see if she'd fall asleep herself if the feed didn't send her off, but if she cried I fed her again. And she seems to be coming out of it all by herself.

Medee · 16/07/2011 16:37

Is the 4 month sleep regression time to try to ditch the dummy, or should I wait till we are through the other side?

Muser · 16/07/2011 18:37

I'm really not sure Medee. If you wanted to ditch it early then it's probably as good a time as any other. But the regression nearly broke me. I did dump the swaddle just before it, but I tried her with a dummy again during it to try and find something that would get me some sleep.

I think I got a bad case though, you might ride it out more easily.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 16/07/2011 19:00

CKNY - I find E wriggles and just generally is a bit of a pain to feed at certain times. Mostly his first morning feed and daytime feeds. Many of these happen outside for us though as I am often on the school run etc so I feed him a lot in the pram sitting a little upright. I find if he isnt due a sleep at the time of feeding then he struggles lots. His last evening feed and any night time or early morning feed he is nromally completely still as he will be going back to sleep. He does sweat ridiculously when feeding though.

Re: Dummy. I seem to have lost both of ours today and have text DH to get some new ones, but tbh we have managed.

Cherub - how old are your boys? I think we are the only two with 3 boys arent we? In contrast to your day we have had a bad one today, neither of them have really listened to a word I have said today. By 6.30 I had enough and all 3 were in bed and by 6.45 silence resumes.

Ckny - exciting about packing- we need a suitcase and we are off on Thurs.

Pameladej · 16/07/2011 19:32

I've just filled Alex up with formula to see if that will help him sleep in some small way. He's still grizzling away in his bedroom but has not gone berserk (yet!).

ckny Alex sometimes does what you describe. With him sometimes I think it is because he needs to burp but other times I don't know what it is. I wondered if it might also be because of teething pain?

ckny1 · 16/07/2011 20:58

Tough decision, Medee, I almost ditched it tonight but decided to wait! I know someone who did at 4 mo and said it was a week of hell, but fine now. I suppose it's a good idea for us to do so before object permanence kicks in, or any time we're ready for it...

mixed, funny about the sweating while feeding! Franz always sweats (both of us seem to be approaching menopause!) Sorry you had a rough day, but glad it's peaceful now chez vous!

It's often before a good burp (or puke) with us, too, Pamela.

We had the biggest poo-mergency tonight, with it somehow reaching his back & shoulders!? Better now than on the plane (he poos every 3-4 days so we're in the clear)! :)

Muser · 16/07/2011 21:32

We had a first today. Baby blew raspberries at me! I thought maybe just random event but I blew a raspberry back at her, she giggled and did one of her own. It was so cute!

cherub59 · 16/07/2011 22:45

mixed my "big" boys are 3 and 2 so not really very big at all!!!!

Nice to know someone else is in a house full if boys too!!!

Enjoy your hold those of you busy packing!!!

me23 · 17/07/2011 10:01

HAppy birthday muser and cherub

I can't believe it on friday Ethan had a 3 hour nap in his cot was amazing but I was worrying as he never sleeps that long ever! However back to his usual 30 min naps yesterday.

My dd age 6 is so good with Ethan they Adore each other I love watching then play he loves chatting to her.

Ethan blows raspberries too, very cute.

Hope everyone is having nice weekend.

Lozario · 17/07/2011 13:03

mixed Lara's head sweats when she feeds! It's really weird, because she's so bald I see little sweat beads forming like a glittery head!

me a three hour nap! I would keel over with shock if Lara did that.

feeding - my increasing problem is that now she's a bit older, she's so distracted when feeding, especially if DS is in the room making a racket! Still no luck with a bottle. Pretty much given up!

boys there was an article in yesterday's Times about raising boys. Quite interesting, although a lot of it was obvious (let them express their emotions without getting embarrassed etc). Before I had Lara I really wanted 3 boys, I thought that would be really fun. But I pretty much knew I was having a girl. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't gutted about having a girl - just thought it would be fun having a house-full of boys!

Off to a 2nd birthday party this afternoon. Nice weather for it.... Hmm

Medee · 17/07/2011 15:55

EA is totally regressing. I am typing with her asleep on me. Only way I could get her to nap.

sam26oscar · 17/07/2011 17:01

hi all, have posted but lost it Angry, its my birthday too!! Its on wed and we go on holiday thurs Grin.
Have been up since the crack of the sparrows whatsit today as DS has had his last football tournament of the season thank god!! It piddled down for best part of it and only started to clear up towards the end!! Cassie thought it was great though snuggled in her pram!! I have a Mamas and Papas carrycot and prop her up with my V cushion when shes awake so she can see out, i also have my sisters pram which has a fully reclining carseat which clips onto a pram base so cassie can either be sat up right or laid out flat when asleep, the only reason i don't use that one very often is because its soo difficult to get in and out of the car.
Feeding cassie anywhere but in a dark silent room is very frustrating!! She is so nosey that she is off and on my boob theyr'e starting to get a bit sore!!
I think it won't be long until shes is starting to wean, she actually makes me feel guilt for eating some times as she gazes at me as i'm eating!!

Cassie started rolling last sunday and now does it all the time!! Only thing is she hasn't learnt how to roll from front to back effeciently so gets bored/frustrated after a while!!
Well, roast dinner to cook and beds and sandwhiches etc,etc etc Sad must go!! Love to all x

sam26oscar · 17/07/2011 17:03

Do apologise for some terrible spelling and grammatical errors, i have been up rather early is all i can say in my defence Blush

sittinghippo · 17/07/2011 20:25

Happy Birthday sam . Where you off to on holiday? (Forgive me I'm too lazy to read back!)
I hope you can all access MN while you are away, it will be awfully quiet with you lot all gallivanting around the globe.
Esp you mixed - 6 weeks away you will have a lot to catch up on!! Enjoy your time in Turkey, I hope you get lots of R&R.

Not a lot going on here, just Beth been a bit poorly after her jabs, the cold she had last week didnt quite shift and now she has lost her voice. Sad. Poor thing sounds like a toy that's broken its squeaker Sad

Aside from that, had a lovely wet weekend, donned waterproofs and wellies and went for a good walk in the forest, although it rained so hard that the waterproofs didnt do a lot and we were soaked to the skin. All good fun though.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 18/07/2011 12:02

Happy birthday sam

We are also gearingup for holiday. Off to Spain on sat. Cannot wait to take Izzy swimming and to the beach every day.
hippo sorry beth has been poorly, hope she feels better soon.

Izzy is now a non stop eating and rolling machine. She is constantly rolling front to back and back again. First of all I was pleased, now I am constatnly keeping my eyes peeled. She can roll off her playgym etc etc! Weaning is going so well. Her hand eye co-ordination is quite good so she can manage to suck on a couple of rice cakes. Last night she had 4 rice cakes, carrot and sweet potato followed by 1/4 banana. Unbelievable!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 18/07/2011 13:16

Might pop to the library and read that article Lozario. Thanks.

Purplefan · 18/07/2011 17:36

Happy birthday Sam I hope you are back from holiday in time for the next Bristol meet up.

I have had a small breakthrough today in that Bethan has taken a small amount of milk from a new bottle. I invested in a breastflow bottle and touch wood it seems to be doing the trick!! Grin

sam26oscar · 18/07/2011 21:17

I have just had a spray tan before i go away as i think you always look slimmer when you've got a tan!!! I just couldn't bear the thought of getting a lily white flabby body out in the beach so thought i could at least do something about the lily whiteness!!!!

purplefan we are home on the thurs before our meet so will be able to make it!! Will have Oscar with me but think i will do as you suggested and put him in the soft play creche there!!

well, can't stay on here all night much as i would like too this is the only free time i have to pack and sort stuff out!!

Enjoy your holidays thoses who are off soon!!

1Catherine1 · 18/07/2011 22:41

Hey Ladies, haven't managed to keep up this last week. I've been too exhausted. Have been a little poorly and it has worn me out. I rather dramatically felt like I was dying on Friday when I had the most intense stomach pains. We nearly ended up in the hospital but it then suddenly passed. The GP thought it was probably just a stomach bug and told me to go back next week if it doesn't clear on its own.

Happy Birthday all those with Birthdays coming up! Mine is 2 weeks tomorrow and on my birthday list is lots of things I need for Anya Hmm. Summer really is the best time to have a birthday Grin

Sam - poor you with losing your posts again. You must remember to copy them before pressing the post button. I hope you have super typing speed as you seem to lose so many posts!!

Hope you enjoy Spain Sam & Cheese. When I was there it was so hot but I enjoyed it. Mixed you're going to Turkey right? (All from memory so forgive me if I'm wrong) Visiting family was it? I hope you get a nice break. ckny1 your post made me laugh as Anya wasn't as considerate with her timing of an explosive poo. She decided the best time would be after the boarding gate but before getting on the plane. When I got on the plane they were still refuelling so told me I would have to wait till they were done to change her in the toilets so I changed her on the seat next to me. Strangely nobody chose to sit there after I'd done... Wink

RE Regressing - We haven't had much signs of that here. Anya is nearly 17 weeks now so I'm waiting for it and am very interested in what you lot are going through so I know what to expect. She actually seems to be getting better at sleeping. She has gone from going to sleep at midnight at 14 weeks to going to sleep at 10pm for the last week. Tonight she originally fell asleep at 7pm and only woke up when my cat opened the living room door and let all the heat of the room out and she went cold. I finally put her in her cot at 9:30pm after I warmed the bedroom up (Where has this cold weather come from?!!) and she woke up a bit but I sang her back to sleep. For me this is progress as I'm not rocking her to sleep or feeding her to sleep.

Purplefan - would you recommend those Breastflow bottles then? They're kinda pricey but I'm also back to work next week and I can't get Anya to take any milk from the tommee tippee bottle and only half a fl oz in half an hour from an Advent one. I'm pretty sure she only accidently took that half oz too as she was chewing on the teat. Hmm

Anyway.. what a huge post. I should go and do something more productive since my house looks like a bomb (or 5) has hit it. Blush

1Catherine1 · 18/07/2011 22:54

Just scrolled back to read all the posts I've missed... Mixed - cheap pushchair is your best bet. I also managed to get one for £20 off ebay. Was an O'baby one and I left it in Spain so I can just carry her through next time. Also you hear stories of airlines destroying pushchairs and prams - I just couldn't bare the thought of them crushing my £300 Quinny Buzz. Which, for those pram huntings - folds very small and fits in the boot of my Ford Ka (only one I know that does) although the downside is that it folds into 2 pieces.

oh.. productive stuff... I remember... should go and stop procrastinating.

Jupiter118 · 18/07/2011 23:37

Evening

Lots of holiday preparation on here - hope you all have lovely times and happy birthday to you all as well!!!
gai
Time differences we just did 7am twice the day we went to the states. So 7am (ish) feed as usual then at Heathrow treated the next feed (11am UK) as 7am again and then just went onto US time - she was fine with time diff pretty much from the start apart from one explosive 3am poo.

pushchairs second what catherine says about Buzz - I love it - it fits (yes in two pieces) in the boot of my car (golf) and pushes very nicely. I was quite keen on the new Zapp when pregnant, but put off it when actually saw it as seat bit doesn't really fold down Confused. Old style Zapps are brill though - we had one for DS and it folds soooo small.

Right must go to bed as have Buggyfit in the morning and must go as have had v naughty weekend weightwatchers wise and don't want to muck it up as have lost half a stone so far Grin

xx

Kagey · 19/07/2011 05:04

morning all! Happy belated birthday's and happy holidays to those too who are about to go/are on holiday!

Snap muser, I'm a Bastille day birthday girl too. My day consisted of eating cake and potty training dd1; what an exciting life I lead.

Dd2 is now 16 weeks and battling her first cold, and is a little trooper considering how awful I felt with my cold at the weekend.

She's just nodded off so I'm signing off and heading back to sleep before dd1 wakes up in 2 hours (ish).

Have a great day x

pettyprudence · 19/07/2011 10:46

I think everyone must have the new quinny buzz - I have the old one and its such and arse to fold down that I just leave it permanently up in my house. I have a little britax b-mobile in the boot of my car. I am convinced that prams are designed by men who have 4 wheel drive monster trucks so they give no thought to women trying to fold the bloody things down and get them to fit in a tiny car. Who the hell thought "You know what this pram needs? Hydrolics! That will make it extra hard to fold down but pop up if you accidentally breathe over it". Grr. Don't think I will ever find my ideal pram. Wish IKEA would make one.

Pram rant over.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 19/07/2011 11:52

We have solved the pram issue by agreeing to take the McClaren, mostly for pushing about in the evening whilst we take DSs for ice cream or whatever. For the beach I have one of those pop up UV tents from jojomaman from DS2 so E will nap in there. Here I just put him in the cot and leave him to sleep so he will probably liek that, plus will use the sling. If the McClaren gets damaged it wont be a big deal as it was the pushchair my parents kept at theirs from DS1 and is the really big standard one. I dont want the airline to ruin my loola.

Catherine - there is lots of family dotted about in the same plot of land where my parents have their holiday house, my dad seems to slowly be falling out with them one by one. It will just be a nice relaxing time, chilling in the garden, at the beach etc.

Happy birthday to everyone who has had one, mine is in august so we will be away. A lot of summer birthdays on here.

Hi to all and sorry to be crap at responding.
