pettyprudence · 11/07/2011 10:45

Well we have a cold and mastitis here so all fun and games!

Re: routines, as a rough guide Arthur needs a nap 1 1/2 hours after the last nap/sleep. Quite short naps in the morning (20-45mins) getting longer later in the day(1.5-3hrs). Arthur will feed 2-3hours after the end of his last feed.

Arthur had his best night ever last night, going 8.30pm-3.10am! Unfortunately i was up every hour convinced i was boiling/freezing/sneezing/sniffeling. grrr.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 11/07/2011 12:42

ckny - my dad is already in Turkey and I had him pop to the supermarket behind our house to check out formula and the Aptimil is about £15 Shock Since we are there for 6 weeks I wanted to avoid taking too much with me, but at that price I might have to - or maybe I will wean him whilst there. Wink I cant help thinking how much easier this holiday would be without the formula faff but hey ho it is what it is.

haloflo · 11/07/2011 13:23

To be honest I think I'm just not ready to leave her. She would be 16 weeks if she had been born on time (9 days late) so could well be the developmental leap thing. Not looking forward to next weeks "stormy week". That doesn't sound like fun! Will try just a coffee the first time - good idea mixed

(So far no rolling or laughing though [hsad]) Hopefully soon.

me23 Could your friend come round for a takeaway/movie whilst Ethan feeds? DH could take him in another room and just bring him through when he roots? I'm thinking takeaway/movie nights would be a good way to see people without leaving H.

petty You poor thing. Hope you feel better soon. You got the anti biotics?

Poor Hannah is tired out today. We napped in bed this morning. I expected our usual 45 min snooze but she went for 2 hours! An hour and a half awake and down for her next nap. This is probably because our lovely bedtime routine went wrong after she zonked out at 5pm both Saturday and Sunday. When we moved her she woke for 2 hours so went to bed at 9. Hopefully back on track today although .

Lol this nap was only half an hour! Best go.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 11/07/2011 16:32

Oh hadn't thought about formula abroad...anyone know about Spain and aptimel?

Hello shiny new thread!

Had a busy weekend at my sisters leaving party as she is off to australia for a year. Had a fab time and Isobel slept through the whole thing. Felt rough yesterday as got to bed at 3am and drank far too much fizz. Oh well.

Had our second baby swim class and we did submersion. I was a bit nervous but Izzy took it all in her stride. Not even a tear!

I have left Izzy a few times now. Its a strange feelig, you feel a bit like you are missing your left arm. But I did relax and enjoy it - it helped me feel normal! Its easier for us though as we are formula feeding now.

pettyprudence · 11/07/2011 17:01

Halo I couldn't be arsed with sitting in a hot dr waiting room this morning so taking lots of water, paracetamol and brushing my boob in the shower! Was supposed to add resting to that list but instead of taking a nice long nap this afternoon arthur decided to feed/cry for 4 hours instead. Dragged my aching, feverish body on a walk and the little bugger still won't sleep!

I left Arthur with DH last weds night (my bff had her baby girl!) and came back to find the poor mite passed out on the sofa in his clothes and dirty nappy. Arrgghhhh. I didn't tell dh to feed, change, pyjamas and bed for a laugh!!!! I then had to wake him up to sort him out proper and it threw his sleep out of whack for the rest of the night. I was only gone 2 hours! I have only left him for max 1hr 45mins before either with DH or my mum (can count the no of times on 1 hand!). Last weds doesn't make me want to leave him again with my own DH! I think I would feel more confident leaving him with someone (anyone) else because at least they would follow my instruction (having said that I had to tell my mum off when she offered to rock A off to sleep for his daytime nap because she kept talking to him and sticking her head in the pram to kiss him!). God i sound like a control freak Blush I am his mother and I know best Grin

ckny1 · 11/07/2011 17:52

petty, hope you manage to recover quickly! we have a similar nap schedule as yours. perhaps your dh would learn his lesson if he spent 24 hours alone with arthur and understood it would be in his best interest to keep him clean and somewhat in his routine! Grin it took my dh a while, but he is getting the knack of it (not necessarily exactly what i do, but if it works, then why not?)

yesterday i left the boys at home for 3 hours while i hit the sales in knightsbridge. a good thing i don't feel confident enough yet to buy clothes, but unfortunately that means dropping £££ on things that still fit, like shoes and face creams! Blush

cheese, don't think aptamil is so expensive in spain b/c my ILs bought it for us in germany. not sure why it's so bloody costly in turkey, but at least they sell it! :) i only hope that the u.s. border control people won't take the 5 cartons from us since you can't bring food to the states.

Jupiter118 · 11/07/2011 19:27

ckny we got into the states with two full cartons of aptamil. Rightly or wrongly we didn't declare on our customs form ???

Bac soon need to put DS to bed ;-) DD is sleeping and hopefully will do unt bedtime is over [fingers crossed]

ckny1 · 11/07/2011 20:05

thanks, jupiter. we'll do the same (though DH's first time entering on his greencard, so hope they don't bust us!) Shock

hope you and the fam enjoyed your trip to fl.

cherub59 · 11/07/2011 22:35

Wow lots of posts already!

petty do go to the dr if your mastitis doesn't clear quickly. If it doesn't get sorted quickly and is an infection it can turn into an abscess which is hideous. Took 3 courses of antibiotics to clear mine and that was seeing a dr within 24 hrs of it coming on! Fingers crossed yours clears really quickly as is so painful I thought it worse than childbirth and that is saying something after ds1!!!!

Naps- we are similar to others in that ollie stays awake a certain amount of time then needs a nap. Usually 1 1/2 - 2 hours in the morning when he has 2 half hour naps, then at lunch time a 3 hr nap till 3.30 or 4 then he is happy til bedtime. All depends what time he wakes in the morning on the timing of everything else!

Thankfully he is over the chest infection and finished his antibiotics today tho he had turned into a poo monster! A friend was holding him today and I heard a splat sound on the kitchen floor. Thought he had been sick so went to wipe it up before commenting "it's yellow!" and he had done the most explosive poo that escaped nappy and his clothes and narrowly avoided coating my friend too!! Grin

ckny Envy you hit the sales! Did you go to harvey nicks? I live 10 mins from there but think it extremely unlikely I will be able to hit the sales!!! After 3 children in 4 years am desperate to update my wardrobe but as I know we would like another I feel like I should hold off on any big splurge!!!

I have always taken powder formula with me on hols as sometimes the formulation can vary and you can't guarantee getting it at the resort you stay at. If you have to buy a different one there your baby may not like it or it may not like them.

Off to sleep now. Fingers crossed will be ok. Ollie back to 1 or 2 wakes per night and the other night he woke up, rejected the boob and settled himself back!! Yippee! 4 months yesterday so hopefully his sleep regression means regressing to where he was before he got poorly!!Grin

Jupiter118 · 11/07/2011 22:57

petty ouch at the sore boobs ? hope clears quickly.

cherub no 4 ? I am in awe [hsmile]

ckny Fl was fabulous. Little bit hot for E, but wonderful all the same. I love the states ? DH and I would move there in a heartbeat if we could. But purely pipe dreams. Hope your DH does not scupper illegal importing of Aptamil [hshock]

on the topic of aptamil do they sell it in France?

I have left E, in fact both children a few times, but DH is very very good. I am the poor housewife in our relationship. Tho I have foodshopped, dusted and hovered today. We bottle feed which makes it easier, 2nd child which I also think is a big factor and a general sense of cabin fever from me. Also had tickets for Take That a few weeks ago ? nothing was stopping me.

cheese 3am ? impressed!!

On topic of booze apologies for my slightly tipsy post on Sat ? wasn?t out mores the pity ? just at the inlaws for the weekend. They are lovely, but SIL (visiting from abroad) is hard work (40 going on 13!) so drank any alcohol that was offered to me. Has scuppered my WW points for the week though ? all extra points used for the week already. Must push myself at buggyfit tomorrow to try and salvage something and pray for miraculous weightloss.

halo hope sleeping is better tonight. ? no Rolling here either (well not unless DS helps poor E, which just leaves her looking terrified.

mixed 6 weeks in Turkey how lovely ? enjoy!!!!!!!!

Hello to everyone else

feeding no idea if E is having enough ? really must get her weighed this week ? she has 4 or 5 6oz bottles a day ? sleeping well though?? After weighing will have more of an idea.

naps some days ? we have 45 -60 mins in am, then 2-3 hours over lunch, 30-45 mins in the afternoon. Other days (like today) we have frequent 15-20 min naps ? no real pattern. But way more grouchy if in the short frequent naps style.

Right must go and sterilise, make bottles etc.

xx

1Catherine1 · 12/07/2011 00:43

Hey ladies,

So hard to catch up! lots of posts this week!

Well back to my old routine nearly now which is nice although have had some unplesantness since getting home. Firstly, who knew leaving stuff in a steriliser for 2 weeks would result in mould? I wish someone would have told me, I left my breast pump in it and have spent several hours trying to clean it and sterilise it but still am not sure about using it again. Secondly, Anya's feeding immediately returned to normal when we got back but nobody told my boobs :( She's had a weekend of green poo and I've been suffering with sore boobs. Then I tried to phone the HV for some advice and she didn't phone me back after I waited in all afternoon for her call. I don't think I'll bother with her again, I get better advice from MN anyway.

Really nice to hear of you all getting out and about without LOs. Have reluctantly left LO with inlaws for 2 hours once but that is about it. My OH has to take her for the 3 days I'm back at work in 2 weeks and we're both dreading it. I wish he would just sing to her, no matter how silly he feels about it because it really does sooth her. He is too much of a man for that Hmm. Also worried that she still feeds to sleep on the boob. Idk what I'd do without that tool so idk how he'll cope.

RE naps - Anya needs her morning nap (between 9 and 11), afternoon nap (between 2 and 4), evening nap (between 6 and 8) and main nights sleep (between 10 and midnight). Each nap lasts about 30 to 45 minutes and as you can see the routine is kinda loose but it is one she established herself. Although today we were both rather lazy and we both had a morning nap which was a full 2 hours long Grin

Getting Anya weighed next week but it will be a whole 6 weeks since she was last weighed due to them cancelling the clinic the Friday before we went away. I was worried but at the baby cafe this morning I took a look around and was pretty sure she was growing well.

Anyway... my brain has stopped working so I'm off to bed. So much to do again tomorrow. I wonder how I'll ever have time to work again... nn all x

me23 · 12/07/2011 08:04

petty I hope the mastitis clears soon if your are still feeling rough today you should see Gp as if it is infective mastitis you will need antibiotics.

Pamela I want to start expressing more so Dp can help out more but I cannot find the time to express and don't know when to do it so it doesn't affect my supply when Ethan wants feeding. My supply also feels like it's dried up in the evening when E is cluster feeding, but I know he must be getting something as he doesn't cry.

halo think idea re having friend over is probably the most feasible at the mo.

Naps: basically E doesn't much and when he does if usually last 15-30 mins I sometimes get an hour but only when he is on me as soon as I put him down he wakes up. Does anyone have any suggestions as I cannot do anything and feeling really exhausted and trapped as I am either holding or feeding him all day it would be nice to get a few hours in the day to do things.

Oh had E weighed yesterday at 16 week he is 13lb 15 oz. He has now doubled his bw he was 6lb 10oz at birth.

KPidgeon · 12/07/2011 10:00

Hi all,
Well yesterday we had a stretch of 3.5 hours between feeds and that's the first time we've had that for over 2 weeks (has been every 2 hours, as I said) so I'm like a new woman today! REALLY hope that we can go back to that now.. everything is crossed that E is over that phase.

Naps here- E gets really cranky if he's awake for more than 1.5/2 hours too and won't let us put him down. He has a nap about an hour after waking up (which is 6 or 7am) and can go for 1 or 2 hours. Then another long nap at lunch time (2 hours if poss) then desperately needs a nap from 3-5 but that's the one that's hardest to achieve as he really fights sleep.

I generally can't get him to nap in his cot- more likely it's in the pushchair in the fresh air then I bring him back to the cottage if we're in the village. Would be nice if he did go in the cot but he does so well at night in the cot that I don't want to make it a big issue in the day. I like being out and about anyway so can't have a routine of hours at a time in the cot in the daytime..

me does your E fall alseep in the pushchair? Can you wheel him out around the block until he's asleep then bring him back in?

Re expressing- I've not had much joy with it and can't really be bothered to be honest, but people tell me the trick is to express on one boob whilst feeding on the other.. not easy that though.

Taking E to the doctor's tomorrow as he has a little red rash on one cheek. Sure it's nothing but best get it checked.

LovelyKatie · 12/07/2011 11:43

Hi everyone.

Everyone speaking about sleep routines mines a bit like yours Catherine

She wakes up around 7.30 then has a nap around 10 till about 11.30 then has another nap about 2-3 then another around 6-7 then her proper sleep aroun 9-10 which she has created herself.

I hope your LO keeps up with long stretches kp

I got that bounce thing delivered and shes still too small for it atm but it looks good!!

I did want to buy the jumperoo but i could only find it on amazon at £70 which is a bit too much but then I found it on tesco direct for £62 but its out of stock and mothecare only do the pricematch promise if its in stock!

nevermind. I have this one now!!

I need to buy those teething keys somebody (sorry cant remember who) recommended to me on here.

shes been making herself sick so much by putting her fist in her mouth! multiple outfit changes for both of us.

Taking her swimming today for first time. I did have a quick check back to my previous question over swimnming to make sure I had everything. Luckily its at a childrens centre so I feel better about that Im just a bit nervous about meeting the other mums and getting out in a costume! Plus the fact I havent been in a pool since my car accident so everyone will see my 27cm red angry scar snaking down my right arm!!!!

I'll let you all know how it goes when I get back. And on a final note Iv got to go with OH tonight for a meeting with his ex and her new boyfriend over their child (my OH's and hers) as things are getting out of hand between the two of them at loggerheads all the time.

dreading it slightly.

To those going on holiday you are so brave!! my head gets battered over just being here!! to go with all the palava of a holiday is something I would not attempt!

anyway must dash shes bored of her gym now

love to all x

Lozario · 12/07/2011 14:43

Ha ha, Lara still laughs in the face of decent naps here! It could be a lot worse though - basically she's usually up at 7.30, goes back for 45 mins at 9ish, (settles herself for this one now) then the rest of the day she needs some persuasion. Today has been fine as we met up with some NCT people from DS1's baby days (both of whom have newish babies) so Lara slept on the way back from that - 45 mins again! And has just had a big feed now and dropped off so I've jumped on here before I have to get DS up from his sleep. Then the baby is usually asleep by 6.30pm for the night! So I think she's getting enough sleep, just most of it is overnight. I would love to have her sleeping midday for a couple of hours when DS1 does (he's a sleep monster, I always have to wake him after 2 hours) but if she doesn't, then hey ho, I'm sure it will come in time. DS1 only slept for half an hour at a time, 4 times a day, until he was about 6 months old, ie, more mobile and on solids, so I think that will help the short nappers.

lovely katie gosh good luck tonight, that sounds difficult. I hope it goes ok. And as for swimming, don't worry, other mums will be too busy trying to not drown their LOs to notice or care about scar! I took Lara swimming at center parcs and it was great, and it's easy to talk to other mums in the changing rooms etc. (Well - the changing rooms at a normal swimming pool anyway. Changing rooms at CP were hideous!! )

me It's so exhausting when you feel like you're tied to them all day isn't it. DS was like that at the beginning, I thought I'd never have a moment to myself again. I've started putting Lara down when she's slightly still awake but sleepy, and then keeping a hand on her in the cot to give her that pressure they like on the chest when she's dropping off, as she's more likely to wake and get upset if I put her down asleep as she notices the pressure coming away more if that makes sense. It's working - am gradually putting her down more awake each time but obviously it's not always possible, eg at bedtime when she's tired so feeds to sleep, and I'm certainly not gonna wake her up again!! I think it was mixedmama who said she feeds her baby lying down on the bed in the day when he's due a sleep, so then he drops off and she can either sleep with him or roll away carefully and go on Mumsnet do some cleaning or something!! Could you try that? Make DP take him for a walk etc on the weekends - time to yourself is a MUST!!!!

going out ....what's that?! Cha, Lara still not taking bottle so all my expressed milk in the freezer is starting to go out of date now!! Gutted. Although tried her yesterday and over the course of an hour she took (drum roll) one gulp, so maybe we're getting there. It's quite funny really, she makes the most disgusted face. She never took a dummy either so I guess she just doesn't like things in her mouth! Little princess. (Not in a good way!!)

Lozario · 12/07/2011 14:46

PS cherub ...four? You legend!!!!!! I think we're stopping at 2, at least for a good few years now... I think it stresses DH out too much, mainly me being an over-emotional hormone monster when preggo or breast-feeding!!!

Purplefan · 12/07/2011 16:49

Hi everyone, What a busy new thread this is already!!! Smile

Funny how our little ones create their own little routines and nap times. Bethan tends to have a couple of little power naps in the morning and then she has a longer sleep of about 1.5/2 hrs in the afternoon usually about 2/2.30 which seems to match with the school run!! I tend to settle her to bed about 7.30/8 ish and she wakes usually about 3/4ish and then around 6.30... sometimes though she will wake a couple of times in a night!

Went to clinic today and got her weighed again at 17weeks she now weighs 9lb 2oz!! Still gaining steadily and has her own curve Grin

Catherine I am also on the count down to that 1st day back at work, only 12 days to go Sad, but only for 2 days Wink then summer hols.

Katie good luck with tonight.

On another note I had DD1's first school report today which was good Grin, need to take her back to opticians 2moro as we have discovered she is short sighted and needs glasses... she is so looking forward to choosing them and wants a pink pair!!!

pettyprudence · 12/07/2011 17:35

I have beaten mastitis!!!!! I feel so chuffed as last time I was really poorly for a good week (but great way to lose the baby weight!). I think brushing my boob in the shower, plus Arthur wanting to feed lots yesterday really helped.

Lucky really as I needed to have a marathon cooking session today so that I can avoid cooking for another couple of weeks and just re-heat stuff from the freezer. I think I have made a good 2weeks worth of stuff with maybe the occasional cooking on the weekend.

DH is getting the bus and train to work tomorrow so I can have the car. Yippeee! I'm off to see my bff's new baby in the morning, bf group over lunch/afternoon and then an old (literally) friend in late afternoon - cramming a weeks worth of socialising in one day Grin

Pameladej · 12/07/2011 20:15

me23 I've given up expressing now that my milk supply has increased and Alex just gets formula when I'm out. My HV recommended doing straight after feeding so that is what I did at the time. Was so tedious though!

lovely katie good luck for tonight.

I had Alex weighed today and he is now 17lb (he's 18 weeks tomorrow) so quite big. Have just had to go get him some 6-9 month babygro's as he's pretty long too.

Alex has about 4 naps during the day each one for just 45 mins. Would love it if he could go for longer at lunch but it never seems to happen Sad

Am shattered today - think I tried to do too much today. After the trip to get Alex weighed I had to pop to the hospital to get my blood tested to check my general aches and pains are nothing more serious than from carrying DS around. Then met a friend for coffee before going shopping. Forgot to keep tabs on naps so by the time bedtime came round Alex was over-tired and having none of it. Only just got him down now.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 12/07/2011 20:52

cherub - I have to agree with Lozario. Legend indeed. I do entertain the thought of no.4 from time to time, but I like to think not in a real way.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 12/07/2011 21:36

Hello all!

Bladdy hell, this thread is busy!

I fear we have hit the dreaded 4 month regression (18 weeks tomorrow). we were up at 11pm-1am,3am - 4am when I put her in bed with me and then 630am. overnight, She seems to have turned from a happy, easy going baby to a grizzly whingy baby Sad. Am hoping it doesn't last too long. To make matters worse DH is on nights so it is just me. Right, whine over!

petty glad you are better. Enjoy your fun day out tomorrow.
pamela hope bloods are OK.
cherub I am one of 4 and its lovely. I'd like four too!

cherub59 · 12/07/2011 22:19

Hello all!
Well thought my littlest man was better but he got ill again today and dr asked me to take him to hospital to get checked. Another virus apparently tho to my very untrained and worrying mummy mind it sounds like last weeks chest infection... Oh well i guess it will run it's course but hopefully with more sleep this time!

Sleep tight all. Hope the babies do tooGrin!!

highlandbird · 13/07/2011 10:17

oooh, it is busy on here, so great to hear what everyone is up to I think this thread keeps me sane sometimes, even when I don't have time to write anything, you're a very supportive lot!!
Cheese sympathising with the sleep regression, what is it about anyway?? Angus up every 2-3 hours in the night now and the only way I can get him back to sleep is by feeding him, hmmm rod for my own back I think!! Mind you his first tooth has just popped through so could be that contributing as well!
Cherub hope he gets better soon :(
Katie gosh I don't envy you that situation at all, hope it all goes as well as possible...and enjoy the swimming, nobody is going to give a stuff about what you look like in your swimming costume, they'll be too busy with their own babies, plus we all have our hang ups about post baby bodies anyway!
Petty soooo glad you're feeling better, mastitis is just awful isn't it? Sounds like you're making the most of being up and about again though! The hot showers and boob massaging was definately what helped me too, I'm dreading the thought of it ever coming back.
Catherine and Purple, boo at going back to work so soon, hope the sun shines for the rest of your ML!
Wow, mammoth post and no time to write more now, naps are hit and miss here, I can tell when he's getting tired so ~I cuddle / rock him to sleep before he gets REALLY grumpy!
First night for him in the big cot tonight....eek! Thought I might as well do the transfer while his sleep is unsettled anyway!
Bye for now, I'm off out to enjoy the sunshine :) xx

mixedmamameansbusiness · 13/07/2011 10:44

katie - in a pool I dont mind being 3 stone overweight but in Turkish people are so bad at making comments. I guarantee that whilst I am there all anyone will talk about is my weight and I will be in a cossy every single day.

How did the meeting go? I hope it isnt too stressful.

cherub - i really hope ollie gets 100% better soon, for both your sakes.

I do entertain the idea of a 4th, but I just keep thinking of all the things we want to do with DC and the experiences we want to give them and I wonder if I keep having babies they will ever happen.

GeekLove · 13/07/2011 11:22

Hello folks!

A week from now I will be back to work! Only 2 days a week mind but still the time has gone by quickly!

purple looks like your DD is well on her way to doubling her weight before 6 months.

pretty Glad you have beaten mastitis. I had blocked ducts so it must have been horrible. What I did find helpful with blocked ducts was a spot of vigorous swimming. Sounds mad mut I think it helps to massage the breasts.

Meanwhile M is now 14lb 15oz. I think he is on the 4 month regression now as he his rather more irritable. Bit of a shock since he was such a chilled out baby since birth.

OP posts:
