Hey all,

Tsk all these holidays, so jealous!! Center Parcs was our main hol this year and I think we're going to Devon for a week at the end of August as we've got a wedding to go to down there.

As for birthdays, it's mine on 30th July, the big 3-1.... My mum will be up so I think me and DH will go out for a meal once the kids are in bed, it's very unusual for Lara to wake before midnight so we should be fine leaving my mum to babysit.

Jupiter well done on weight loss! You must be well chuffed.

purplefan I'm going to try one of those breast-flow teats - which one did you use?

Still no rolling over from Lara here, am wondering if she's always strapped in buggy or in bouncy chair too much so doesn't get much exercise. I must admit I do still put DS1's needs first in terms of exercise (running around park etc) and still don't really think she needs much. Will make more effort! Blush

Purplefan · 19/07/2011 16:35

Hi all,

Catherine and Jupiter It is early days with the breastflow bottle so not sure if I am ready to reccomend it to anyone else!!! She took a tiny bit from it yesterday which was a huge leap forward....however..... today she has not been interested at all in the bottle and has been getting very cross. It was my sister offering her the bottle..I stayed out of the way, but no joy. I am now convinced it is not the bottle, but the baby!!!! Hmm
I have brought a sippy cup with no valve that my sister can possibly use when I am at work next week, but am gonna e-mail my boss and say that my sister may have to bring Beth up at lunchtime for her to have a feed from me!!!
The other thing that I am thinking is maybe baby rusk or rice mixed with my milk and fed from a spoon, but is it too early for that??? She will be 19 weeks at weekend?!!!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 19/07/2011 22:20

Lozario - I wonder about that too. E does spend alot of time in the pushchair/being carried etc. I have been trying to make an effort with puttin him on his paly mat/gym but he cant seem to get his head round. He did however really enjoy tummy time today.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 19/07/2011 22:20

Purplefan - I dont think it is too early, more about if she is ready.

cherub59 · 20/07/2011 08:43

Is there a 4 month growth spurt? I seem to be spending my entire day and night feeding ollie again and can't remember from other dc?

highlandbird · 20/07/2011 09:31

There seems to be a growth spurt going on here too.....coupled with sleep regression and teething hell........argh!!!!!! :(
Going swimming now, wish that means I could relax a bit but he has taken to crying when other people hold him so MIL is prob going to be really offended and convinced she doesn't see enough of him.
Coffee time, enjoy birthdays and holidays girls, and well done on the weight loss Jupiter :)

Muser · 20/07/2011 09:49

There is a 4 month growth spurt and it's a long one. Good luck to everyone battling sleep regressions and growth spurts, it's hard but you can make it through.

Oh damn, I thought I had a napping baby but she's just woken herself up after about a minute. Aaargh.

cherub59 · 20/07/2011 13:10

We def appear to have both sleep regression and growth spurt then. and I think another tooth as o is frothing at the mouth!

Yesterday took him swimming and he was exhausted so thought would get a good night buy he had other ideas! Settled fine but wanted feed at 9.30 (always used to go 7.30-1ish) and has had a feed at the last few days as well. Then was up from 1-4am then up at 5.45 and as dcs got up at 7 that was it!

I don't mind other than the fact one of my best friends is visiting from Australia and we were going with dh's to her favourite restaurant on Saturday (which is also our wedding anniversary). As he won't take a bottle and has started waking for a feed at 9.30/10 we have had to change the booking to a restaurant on our road!!!!

Sleep deprivation getting to me - have just bought anti wrinkle cream for the first time!!!!

Enjoy hols all! We are going to a featherdown farm for the august bank holiday and am v excited about it!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 20/07/2011 13:50

The 4 month growth spurt is great news as E has just hit 4 months and we are off tomorrow.

cherub59 · 20/07/2011 18:11

Oh dear mixedSad

Pameladej · 20/07/2011 18:47

It sounds like I'm not the only one getting no sleep these days Sad.

Alex no longer likes to take daytime naps and has regressed to waking a couple of times during the night. Fingers crossed that this phase passes soon!

pettyprudence · 20/07/2011 21:26

Arthur near enough slept through a couple of nights last weekend but I think he only did it so he would have something to regress from when he hits 4 months next week Grin He hasn't felt the urge to repeat it though.

edeluna · 20/07/2011 21:29

Add me to the No Sleep Club. Horrible night last night -- doubt I got more than 2 or 3 hours. Then had to take S into central London today to deal (unsuccessfully) with passport stuff. Morning rush hour ride on the Tube was no fun on so little sleep. But DH was with us, which helped, and S was actually really good all day.

Off to bed now in the hopes of getting an hour or so before the night-time waking begins.

Four months old today and, despite the challenges, I wouldn't trade her for the world.

sam26oscar · 20/07/2011 22:30

Yay. what a lovely day i have had despite Cassie having only slept for about an hour! Even managed to have my hair cut after 2 years Blush. just a quick post as on holiday in morning and still have a few things to do. Does anyone have the quinny Buzz 3?? If so would be interested in views as am thinking of getting one as next pushchair, i have mamas and Papas carrycot with the tyre chassis, it does come with a seat unit but am looking for a smaller one to keep in the car.

Those of you going through sleep regression, it does go!!! EventuallyWink think ours lasted for about 10-14 days, i don't remember it being much longer than that, but, since then, Cassie rarely goes til 3-4am since then, she still only wakes once but generally about 2ish now and goes back til 7am, so it has had a lasting effect on us anyway, will be thinking about weaning when we get back as she will be nearly 23 weeks, although she gags and retches on water and calpol..the only things she's ever tasted other than boob!!! so thats going to be an intersting time Grin

well have fun, will read all posts from this coming week when i get home!!!

Jupiter118 · 20/07/2011 22:54

Hello

We hit 4 months on Friday so hoping to be odd one out on sleep regression but will no doubt be unlucky. E is sleeping beautifully just now at night but not in the day where apparently the odd 15 mins is plenty. Hope it will nit spread to the night!!!

sam have nice hols. buzz I have a buzz 2011 and love it. Had slime put in tyres to avoid punctures but it pushes really nicely and easy to put up and down (tho you have to face it to put chassis down and DH always tries to do it round the wrong way and then gets frustrated). Basket not that big but forces me to no carry too much crap!

Thanks for encouragement - went to ww aka fat club today and gave lost 2lb more so 9 in total. Buggyfit twice a week is helping loads I think but it finishes soon for the summer which is a bummer.

Right bye for now xx

pettyprudence · 21/07/2011 09:58

Sam I think its the buzz3 I have and its a complete PITA. The manoeuvrability is terrible, difficult to fold and the catch to hold it down is really fiddly (as its hydrolic it can pop open if you accidentally breathe on it. The catch is much better on newer models). I still can't figure out how to attach the shopping basket either.

Do you want to buy mine as I have sold it so well Grin

Cheeseandbiscuits · 21/07/2011 11:09

We have the mamas and papas Sola and I love it! Fab pram.

Izzy is poorly again with a cold and I reckon a bit of croup. Off on hols on Sat so trying to pack. We've paid for 2 bags at 20kg each so hopefully it will be OK. Am getting exctied, but want her to be better.

It turns out she was grizzling because of her tooth coming through! Rather than any regression or anything. Phew. I looked in her mouth and saw i small white thing, went to grab it and then realised it was attached to her gums! Ha.

Well done jupiter on weight loss. I have lost over a stone on SW now, very pleased!

Hope all the regressions soon fade away and that everyone has lovely holidays.

me23 · 21/07/2011 11:48

Terrible sleep here too, Ethan was so tired last night but wouldn't go to sleep he was crying from 8:30 until he finally fell asleep at 10:30! Then up twice in the night and fidgeting all night. Stangely (for him) he has napped this morning so at least I got a bit of a break.
No holiday for us this year (no money) but we are going to stay at MIL's in Somerset for a week in mid august.
I emailed work today about my return am going back in october though I really don't want to needs must as my mat pay is up endnote sept. Have asked to go back for reduced hours as I plan to still be breastfeeding for a long as I can.

Lozario · 21/07/2011 13:57

cheese a tooth! Well done Izzy! Think Lara's teething, she's VERY dribbly and chews rather than sucks her thumb. I really hope for your sake Izzy hasn't got croup - DS is prone to croup and it's awful when he has it, we have to get steroids for him. Many a dark night I've spent with him in a steamy bathroom trying to clear his chest as he wheezes away! Fortunately it normally only lasts a few days.

naps I'm glad that Lara isn't the only bad napper - she has the odd half hour here and there throughout the day but won't link sleep-cycles at the moment. At night she's a lot better and only really wakes once during the night. Still working on the self-settling, if I catch her at the right time she'll suck on her fingers and go off, but if she's over-tired she's a nightmare - this morning I had to take poor DS out in the drizzle to get her to nap before his playgroup!! "Oooh look a lorry!" "But mummy, I gettin' all wet!!" Blush Envious of those of you whose LOs take a dummy!!

pettyprudence · 21/07/2011 17:55

I could quite happily have traded Arthur in today. He has refused to nap and just screamed and screamed instead, leading me to scream and scream and both of us having to take a time out. I wouldn't mind if something was bothering him but I know its because he needs to nap. Tried rocking, walking, leaving him, cuddling, dummies, feeding. GRRRR.

So I texted DH to tell him to hurry home and take the little bugger tinker off my hands and he finally drops of to sleep 5 mins before dh got home. He's asleep now in my bed but if he wakes up anytime soon DH is going to take him for a walk and give me some breathing space.

LovelyKatie · 21/07/2011 19:16

hi everyone how are you all doing?

really jealous of those of you going on holiday! we were looking at going to disneyland paris in october half term for 5 days but its coming in at £1670 which might seem very good to some of you but its too much for us. Dont know what to do yet.

Besides my pram goes down in 2 bits (silver cross surf) so I'd be worried about how they treated it in luggage hold etc.

Seems everyone is having trouble with sleeping and teeth. Lucy is like that at the minute with her teeth she never has her hand away from her mouth and often cries a little.

I bought some nail scissors today to cut her nails and oh my word she laughed her head off. Its a laugh Iv not heard her do before it was so different like she really found it funny and was getting such enjoyment out of it! it made me chuckle so much!

Lucy usually goes asleep about 9 and then i wake her at 12 for a last feed then she sleeps till about 8.15 but lately shes been waking around 7.30 no issue for me like.

we sit and lol at jeremy kyle together :D

Lozario lucy has started refusing her dummy now which is half a good and half a bad thing now! I hope shes settled for you tonight.

petty I feel so sorry for you :( I hope you get some respite, I dont think our OH'S/DH'S understand how hard it is !

specially those who have more than one and 3 boys! cherub I dont know how you do it!

for those who asked about how the meeting went with my partners ex over their little boy ... it went surprisingly ok we both had a say although the type of boy she described he is when hes at hers is a completely different boy to when hes at ours.

I dont know. Theyll both always have issues.

lets end on a happy note. I FINALLY GOT MY HAIR DONE! YAY! :D

have a good weekend all x

me23 · 21/07/2011 19:49

petty hope you got some rest Ethan has been grouchy all day constantly hD his hands in mouth and chomps on anything but now he has started to cry more so I think he is teething. We bought the nelsons teetha powders he seems to like the taste texture of them in his mouth, but they haven't stopped his crying so bought some calpol gel tonight as I remember it being effective when dd was teething.
Yesterday I removed the insert and headhugger from his maxi cosi (had removed the foam block a few weeks back) feel like it has finally marked the end of the newborn era sad

m currently in the bath whilst OH has LO's need some relaxing time, I expressed some milk earlier but could only get 3 0z which won't be enouj for a full feed. I bought a carton of formula today in case oh needs to use it when I'm at hairdresser next week, I don't like using formula ethans only had it twice since birth once when be was being tube fed in Scbu and last time a6 weeks ago while I was at hairdresser and ebm ran out, wish expressing was more efficient sometimes I can't get more than 1 oz and find it hardto find time to do it as LO is still on the boob lots with have no routine with feeds it feels like one feed runs into the next a lot of the time.

Medee · 21/07/2011 21:29

we're in the 4 month sleep regression/ growth spurt/ wonder week. daytime naps have gone to pot, we've got random night time awakenings, coupled with teething and yesterday;s jags! Thankfully, she settled well enough last night to allow MrM and me to go out for dinner, with grandma babysitting.

We had introduced a dream feed, but it didnt seem to make a difference. It did amuse me though lifting her out and her latching on without waking!

Purplefan · 21/07/2011 22:46

I am joining the no/little sleep club too. Bethan woke every 2 hours last night and took ages to settle. Hoping tonight will be better!!!!

She still won't take a bottle and is being a little minx in that department!!! I have been giving her a tiny amount of baby rice with EBM over the last few days and she seems to like it - so hopefully that is something that will keep her happy whilst I am at work on Mon and Tues!! Hmm

I did speak to my boss today and told her the situation, she is happy for my sister to bring Beth in at lunchtime for a feed or I can pop home to feed her. She was lovely and supportive about it, which was great Grin

I have really landed on my feet with the 2 days return to work, because instead of pupils being there now, they are teacher training days and on the Tuesday we are finishing at 1.30pm!!! Yay!!! Nice and easy return to work and then the summer to recover!! Wink

Pameladej · 22/07/2011 07:56

Hopefully I'm not speaking to soon but I think we may be out the other side of the sleep regression. It's taken about 10 days of terrible night time sleeping but today and yesterday Alex slept until 7.30am! Grin This is even better than before the sleep regression started but that could be because he's been going to bed later whilst we are on holiday.

Daytime naps are still not happening though Sad
