Haven't managed to find a spare minute over the past week, but am seizing the opportunity now while S naps.

This four-month sleep regression of which many of you speak? I think we may have hit it. S went from several nights of sleeping 8 or 9 hours straight to waking up every hour or two throughout the night and not wanting to nap at all or very little during the day. I'm hoping she'll get past this quickly. Last night I was so exhausted I felt like I was really going to lose my mind if I didn't get some solid sleep. Went to bed at 9:30 and slept for a little over three hours before S got up again. Feeling much better today, but I'm far from caught up. Oh, and I hear her waking up again already -- after a solid ten minutes! Ugh. Must go. Hope to pop back in again soon. In the meantime, I hope you're all doing well!

Pameladej · 13/07/2011 17:23

Ah, so the 4 month regression can affect daytime naps too? That might explain why I've found it really hard to get DS to nap today and yesterday. Aarghhh!

ckny1 · 14/07/2011 13:06

Is anyone else losing GOBS of hair?!?! Fortunately I have lots to spare (am asked always to book a slot and a half at hair salon Hmm), but it's still alarming and a complete mess!!!

We hit something like a 4-month regression a few weeks ago, but thankfully he went back to sleeping well at night. The naps are slightly inconsistent, though, and he is a cranky-puss at some point most days (don't know if it's wind, reflux, over-tired, etc). As one mum of a 9 mo recently stated, she gave up guessing what could be wrong months ago!

Mostly I feel we are going through his 100th growth spurt b/c he had 6 full bottles yesterday, yikes!!! :)

Lozario · 14/07/2011 13:52

ckny1 yep I'm losing loads of hair too - every time I wash it I have handfuls of it and it's rather distressing!! Must be some sort of hormonal thing I guess?

Dreading sleep regression, think it may have started in our house now, she's very rarely napping for longer than half an hour during the day and therefore a mess by the end of the day... and last night she woke twice instead of her usual once, but I know that's not that bad for her age. Still, shattered today. Think I've started losing weight again because she's feeding more... I need calories!!!!!!

Better go - was going to write more but I think she's woken up after a measly 25 minute nap. My 2 year old sleeps more than her - am sure that's not right??! Hmm

1Catherine1 · 14/07/2011 14:36

So this "sleep regession" means missing daytime naps?

By now she should have had 2 naps, her morning one and her afternoon one. Although she has only had 10 minutes for her morning one and 20 for her afternoon one. I'm exhausted - we went for a walk for 2 and a half hours and it was me who needed the nap after!

So tired today [Yawn]

edeluna · 14/07/2011 21:03

I'm still losing tons of hair. Keep finding clumps of it on the floor, coming out of the washing machine ... just everywhere. Wonder how long this will last.

I've sort of given up guessing whether the issue du jour is due to a growth spurt, developmental leap, teething, etc. I just try to remind myself that everything will work itself out one of these days. That said, I'm still exhausted. Got a bit more sleep the last two nights, but still far from a solid night.

Those of you heading back to work soon -- good luck! I hope it's not too much of a shock to the system.

My boss rang today asking if I'm interested in doing any "keeping in touch" time. I really am not. I just want to be home with my baby, and it's only been a few months. I told her I'd think about it and get back to her. Is anyone else doing the KIT thing?

S seems to be making huge leaps forward over the last week or so: rolling over from back to tummy, lifting her arms when she wants to be picked up and holding her bottle all on her own. Now if she'd just sleep properly!

cherub59 · 14/07/2011 22:49

Gosh edeluna holding a bottle on her own!!! If only I could get ollie to even take a bottle!!!

No real developmental stuff here - he is still bit of a blob and only rolls onto his side from his back when tempted by a boob or s mirror!!!

Took him to his first monkey music class today- his free trial. Great fun and he was fascinated! Currently trying to sort out summer classes for my bigger boys too - quite a military operation with 3!

Yes think am slightly mad contemplating 4 but just haven't got that "my family is complete" feeling that some of my friends have had!

Fingers crossed our nights will continue to improve but o is increasingly "sucky" and I think has used me as a dummy the last few nights! I just don't want to resort to an actual dummy having got 4 months without one!!!!!

pettyprudence · 15/07/2011 09:09

urgh Arthur has decided this week that long naps are overrated and 20mins will do nicely thank you! On the plus side he has been going to bed at 7.30pm, on the downside waking at 11.30pm, 3.30am and 6.45am, which all in all isn't too bad but it means I have only been in bed an hour or so before he wakes up so I am actually getting less sleep now than when he went to bed later. Hmmm, maybe I should give in and go to bed at 7.30 too....Hmm

I have two changes we are going to make soon and I am not looking forward to either. Firstly I think its time to move Arthur out of the carrycot and into the pushchair, however I stupidly got one that only faces out! How will I gaze and chat to him???? I know Arthur will probably be ok, but what about me????? I am seriously considering a 3rd pram (quinny zapp xtra). Have also decided to move him in to his own room asap. Realistically this won't actually happen until mid-end of August when he will be 4.5-5months old but I'm still dreading it. I think it will be best for both of us though as I think we disturb each other too much.

highlandbird · 15/07/2011 11:03

Angus has actually gone 2 nights in the big cot in his own room now......think he's sleeping much better but I'm not sleeping much as I'm so worried about him, and so used to having him sleep by my side for the last 4 months (but no room in our bedroom for big cot)....BUT he's just managed his first ever daytime nap in his cot...very happy mummy :)
And the first tooth fully through, second doesn't look too far away, don't want my baby to grow up too quickly!
Yep, my hair falling out in clumps and blocking the shower too :(
Am considering changing my pram into the outward facing buggy now as he's ready for it, but same as you Petty, i like looking at him and chatting to him when we go for a walk, what to do??

Right, tea and biscuits time before he wakes up Brew

mixedmamameansbusiness · 15/07/2011 12:25

I made sure I bought a parent facing pushchair this time. I am not turning him round for ages, i love him facing me and am going to milk it for as long as I can - although it will be easier to hang the bloody scooters off the pushchair when he faces the other way.

DH has taken E out to his mums with DS2 so I can start cleariong the hosue, getting washing sorted for holiday etc. I have E in such a good sleep routine and feeding routine that I hope he doesnt mess it up. He offers a bottle everytime E moans which mostly is about picking up and engaging rather than being hungry and he doesnt enforce sleep - my MIL is a rocking to sleep fan (which I dont have a problem with it isnt as if once means he will always want it) BUT E isnt that keen, he wriggles around and cries more. Last time we were there I ended up putting him in the pushchair and he fell asleep in minutes. Well I hope they stick to it as much as possiblke anyway.

My hair is also falling out. I have loads of hair so not worried but it is so annoying. I desperately want it cut but cant seem to find the time in between sorting stuf out, being roped into school PTA stuff and everything else.

me23 · 15/07/2011 12:30

Sorry if I don't respond to everyone in on my phone!
Hair falling out in clumps too, dot worry is normal it's because in pregnancy our hair shreds at a much slower rate and now it's making up for that!

cherub there's a monkey music at our library think I'll try a free class.

Went upstairs into bedroom earlier and found our cheeky cat in the Moses basket! He looked so cozy in there. We only use it for when Ethan falls asleep downstairs at night, he literally fills the entire length of it now! Wish he would go to sleep at a decent time seems lots of babies go to bed about 7 and wake at 7 (with a few waking into night) E goes to bed 9-10pm and wakes at 6am and wake up in between for a feed. Plus only usually has 2-3 short naps in the day of 1 hour max. No wonder I'm so tired.

ckny1 · 15/07/2011 15:04

True, me, I only lost one strand of hair a day during pregnancy! I rather like having thinner hair now, but hope it doesn't continue (wish I could donate to charity, as if they'd want my mop).

Congrats to Angus on his cot sleeping and tooth! Franz has been sleeping nights in his cot since around 10 weeks, but it took him a couple more months to nap there during the day. I also love him facing us in the pram! :)

A bit disturbed that Franz has started to flail his arms about aggressively these days and hits his stomach, head, face,...we both have scratch marks everywhere!

Am a bit nervous about our trip on Monday...not so much the plane as his sleep schedule when we arrive. DH had the brill idea to have him sleep an hour later each night starting tonight, but he seems to be ready for bed earlier, and is quite cranky these days so not sure how to go about this! :(

haloflo · 15/07/2011 15:56

I think we are having a sleep regression here too. Hannah never slept well in the first place - this isn't fair! I actually can't remember how often we were up last night. I think from midnight we mostly slept with her latched on. Up at 5.30 for the third day running. TFI Friday!

We probably disturb each other too. As soon as she is going 3/4 hourly I might consider her own room. I would miss her cute sleeping face though...

ckny Have a fab time on your holiday. Hopefully all will come together sleep wise.

edeluna No KIT days here. I hope you don't feel too pressured to do anything.

petty Would the new pram have a decent resale price? If something is expensive then I check the ebay price & I consider how much I would lose if I sold one. Sorry if I am persuading you to get one!

I am going to start putting Hannah in her pushchair part sometimes but mine says only from 6 months so should probably limit time in it at first. I think she is ready to look around though.

I am also losing hair but have loads so not too worried. The bed/cot is covering in my hair and Hannah's baby hair. Gross!

pettyprudence · 15/07/2011 18:50

Well I went to look at prams today with my mum (who thought we would walk out with one then and there and no point taking the other pram with us, en route to the park) and walked away with nothing. I didn't like the quinny zapp xtra in shop. Was liking the Oyster until I folded it down and also realised it didnt fully recline (and £300!). I have put my seat in my original pushchair now and think I can live with it - it has a good viewing panel in the hood. Also was in the park with my bff and her newborn (ignored my mum about not packing the pram) and she had her in a McLaren already, facing outward, so I figured I just needed to grow a pair Grin

But why are all the prams so ruddy HUGE?

Muser · 15/07/2011 21:22

Hello everyone.

We've moved my girl into her own room. I still feel a bit sad about it but I think it has helped her sleep a bit. And it's definitely helped mine as I used to lay there thinking she was about to wake up, or was about to be woken up by husband's snoring. Grin

We went to the cinema to see Harry Potter today, a baby screening. It was great, she was so good through the film - even slept for some of it. Loved it.

Pameladej · 15/07/2011 22:24

Hi everyone!

Well. I'm pretty sure something is going on with my LO as he has gone from being relatively easy to put down for bed at 7ish and sleeping until his dream feed at 11 to not going down full stop. He is still awake now so he's getting his dream feed before he's even been asleep!

Alex please, please, please go back to your old sleeping habits and I promise I will not complain about being woken at 4am again! In fact just the one wake up at 4am seems positively delicious.

I'm interested to read what everyone else is saying about prams as I moved Alex out of his cot bit about a month ago into his chair bit. I still have it quite reclined and facing me. Not sure why I changed, but think it was because I thought he'd find it more interesting being able to see out better. I hope I've not caused any problems by doing it too early?? I didn't see anything on the pram saying I couldn't do this until 6 months. I have a mama's and papa's sola. Does anyone know if it is ok with that pram?

Pameladej · 16/07/2011 04:18

Ps me23 I've found my cat in the pram, the Moses basket, the rocker and even the car seat! Have given up trying to keep him out now.

cherub59 · 16/07/2011 06:02

We are going to change the buggy to parent facing seat this weekend. Did it at 5 months previously but ollie has never gone in the flat pram happily!!! Ever!!!!!

Would someone please explain to him that 5am is not getting up time?

Met up today with my bff who moved back to Australia 5 years ago. Haven't seen her for 18 months and met her ds2 for the first time! Funny how some friendships it makes no difference being on opposite sides of the world! So nice to have our kids play together!!!

cherub59 · 16/07/2011 09:23

Anyone elses DH think Jam donuts are an acceptable breakfast for DCs?

I got up late (woohoo) at (wait for it) 8 am ollie got up at 5 and only settled back at 6.30 so dh got ds1 and ds2 at 7am.

His view was it is just bread and jam!!!!

Aaarrgggghhhh!!!

Purplefan · 16/07/2011 10:21

Pamela I have the same problem with Bethan at the moment. She used to go to bed beautifully at 7.30pm and then wake for a feed about 11.15ish (didn't need to dream feed)... now she is a terror and won't settle till about 9.30pm ish!! Don't quite know what is going on.

I also have another problem in the fact that the baby who wouldn't take to the breast initially... now loves the breast too much and won't take a bottle Hmm need to work something out as I am back to work a week on Monday!! Shock any ideas???

On the pram front, we are still on the full carrycot version as Beth is still small!! Wink

mixedmamameansbusiness · 16/07/2011 11:03

cherub - there are many things my DH thinks are appropriate and he probably would give them jam donuts for breakfast. TBH I would prob eat a jam donut for breakfast (however I would tell the DC they would have theirs after lunch - woiuld feel bad otherwise).

We never had a pram part to our pushchair but it lies virtually flat so E has always just been parent facing.

We are having dilemmas over the pushchair in terms of taking it to Turkey. The Loola is just slightly too wide sometimes. I know that it will be too wide to get through the cabin door on the catamaran/boat that we have to get to our house so it will need folding and taking through which is a crazy effort with luggage, kids and 400 Turks who do not have the word queue in their vocab. I have also just realised I will need to take E out and put it through the xray machines (on the way back this happens more than once as Istanbul have x ray machines just to get into the airport). It is a faff to fold.. So folding needs to happen.

  1. getting in the cab from home to Heathrow
  2. going through the x ray machine at Heathrow
  3. getting on the plane
  4. getting into the taxi (perhaps sling it and not bother opening from getting off till taxi)
  5. folded to get onto the boat (again maybe just leave it folded until we get on.
  6. E will prob sleep in it whilst we are on board so will need folding to get off the boat.

On the way bck folding at least once more.

We have a McClaren which Dh thinks we should take. Problem is that it is from 9 months and lying back is virtually sitting up. E is likely to slee in pushchair as we awill normally be at the beach all day and we will be doing this amlost every day for 6 weeks.

Sorry puschair ranting over with.

Have a nice weekend.

Muser · 16/07/2011 11:18

mixedmama someone in my NCT group bought a Quinny pushchair off Ebay for £20 to take on holiday, maybe you could hunt for a bargain? Or just use a sling for the holiday and get one of those UV protection travel cot pods for use during the day on the beach?

Sympathies to all those with sleep problems. I think we are finally leaving the 4 month sleep regression. It lasted the exact length of time the Wonder Weeks book said this wonder week would. Based on due date, from 14.5 weeks to 19.5 weeks. After all those weeks of 2-3 hour wakings during the night, last night she slept from 11pm-4am in one big go. And she'd slept from 7.30pm-10.30pm before that, and then from 4.30am-8.15am. I feel like a new person.

Right, must go get ready as we are going out for my birthday lunch. Was my birthday earlier in the week, bit of a late celebration.

Pameladej · 16/07/2011 12:24

purplefan, maybe it is a growth spurt? I read something on babycentre that described exactly what Bethan and Alex are doing and said it is down to them being extra hungry because of a growth spurt. I'm going to start introducing more formula in the day to try to fill him up. Fingers crossed that it works!

cherub59 · 16/07/2011 12:55

Muser it was my birthday too this week! Yours isn't the 13th is it?

cherub59 · 16/07/2011 13:10

Anyone else feel like we are coming out of the hardest weeks? Just had blissful morning. Took all 3 boys to park to feed pigeons, did food shopping with them, came home made banana cupcakes, persuaded them to eat some fruit at lunchtime and now all in bed. Dh needs to work this weekend so going to a play place for the afternoon. Makes a change from the days where it just all seems to go wrong!

Currently lying in bed with baby listening to the rain! Marvellous!
