Suspicious death, suspected murder. Think there is a press conference soon.

Im sorry to hear of her death. I didn't agree with some of her politics but I liked her nevertheless. She was a strong powerful woman and a character.

GentleSheep · 10/07/2026 16:10

She had serious injuries apparently, according to BBC news - how dreadful! Very, very sad and an awful way to end one's life. How cowardly of a 'white male' to beat up and murder an old lady.

Anne Widdecombe was a committed Catholic. She would never had agreed to deliberately ending her own life, either with or without help from someone else.

Besides, the Telegraph report says that she was found with serious injuries.

I am getting an awful feeling that we are we looking at another David Amess or Jo Cox. Deliberately targeted and politically motivated.

I sincerely hope not. But it's possible.

I guess we will have to wait until we know more.

Bloody hell, some of the responses on this thread have really made me wonder about the future of mankind. Maybe she fell, or it was an assisted suicide gone wrong, I mean, what the actual fuck?

hattie43 · 10/07/2026 16:10

Heather Herbert is a nasty man . Wishing an older lady a painful death shows how full of hate these people are .

Oh that’s awful. The investigation and the celebration.

Yes, terrible reaction from some people. It shows how toxic our politics have become. No doubt these LGBT activists cheering her death see themselves as the 'good guys'. RIP.

AprilMizzel · 10/07/2026 16:11

When we heard she died DH said it was odd as he'd seen her on TV answering questions in last few days - so no short illness. Then we had breaking news pop up with a murder inqury.

I don't think you have to agree politically with her or even like her to think this is horrific event.

TooBigForMyBoots · 10/07/2026 16:12

Oh no.😥
Hopefully the police catch this man quickly.🙏

I didn’t agree with her politics at all, however to die like this is just awful. She was an elderly lady, at the end of the day, who appears to have been brutally murdered in her own home. She must have been so scared. Poor woman

My feelings too.

What an awful thing to publically announce, that she hopes her death was extremely painful. Now she's going to look absolutely heartless and vile for saying that.

I mean, even if she hadn't been murdered he would sound vile, because he is. I hope he and any of his associates are investigated. That really is a FAFO.

Why shouldn't I comment like that? It still could be assisted suicide, gone a bit 'wrong', admittedly.

Come on. Use your brain.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 10/07/2026 16:13

I disagreed with pretty much everything Ann Widdicombe stood for and believed in (and she ruined that series of Strictly for me) but this is appalling.

I hope the person responsible is found and caught quickly.

That's why I said immeadiate family.

Interesting, I would consider nephews and nieces immediate family. Perhaps they’re not. Anyway, it doesn’t matter. I feel for her family and friends at this shocking news.

” Heather” is a cross dressing man, not “ she” in any way

MrsSchadenfreude · 10/07/2026 16:13

She used to be our neighbour. Not a pleasant one, but certainly you wouldn’t wish this on anyone.

lordbaddingham · 10/07/2026 16:13

I'll be amazed if this is politically motivated, I suspect it will be someone known to her.

Hakunatomato · 10/07/2026 16:14

Eyesopenwideawake · 10/07/2026 15:43

Wow. I can't say I was sorry to hear she'd died but I'd assumed it was natural causes. I hope that's the case.

Well you’re not sorry she is dead, but you hope it’s not murder? What difference would it make to you?

igelkott2026 · 10/07/2026 16:14

Shocking news. I didn't agree with her politics either but she was a bit of a laugh on Strictly. 78 seemed quite young to die these days so I was surprised. I agree it's a bit odd that there was an innocuous announcement and now this. You'd have expected something more on the lines of "Anne W found dead at home, police investigating causes."

Being an MP or ex MP isn't very safe these days.

Just reposting this from D&C police as they say very clearly that it is a murder inquiry: news.devon-cornwall.police.uk/news-article/6b0d4452-6d7c-f111-9d98-6045bdd24049

Respected her spirit and her forthright attitude

So sorry she ended her days like this how awful

Itssohot26 · 10/07/2026 16:16

How shocking.

clamshell24 · 10/07/2026 16:16

Maybe a break in and she fought back? 78 is not that elderly.

You know it was a lefty as opposed to any other white man?

If you know who it was, you really should inform the police.

Gosh aren't you hilarious?

ginasevern · 10/07/2026 16:17

I didn't know she had died until they had a tribute on Jeremy Vine today. It was a very well constructed tribute and absolutely no hint that her death was suspicious. She embodied the polar opposite of my politics but I had a fondness for her because of her views on animal rights and the hunting ban. RIP Ann, you helped to end (or at least reduce) a lot of grotesque suffering.
