Suspicious death, suspected murder. Think there is a press conference soon.

Maybe assisted suicide? Although I admit, that doesn't seem a very Ann Widdecombe thing to do.

Without want to sound bad, was anyone else surprised she was only 78?

Why would comment like that when you cleary haven't even read the article?

@AllJoyAndNoFun scrap that, I've just read it too 🙂

hugasaurus · 10/07/2026 15:53

This is so bizarre. If she was found like that press release said, it’s weird her agent or whoever it was would have released an innocuous statement about her death as it would have been immediately obviously clearly.

Shewas · 10/07/2026 15:53

It will have been a fall surely?

I disagreed a lot with her politics and beliefs, but admired her tremendously as a woman.

You hope he murdered a woman?

I think is just being investigated because the didn’t die of natural causes, she was covered in blood, elderly and under carers so the most probable scenario is that she fell. They just can’t rule that as fact until it has been investigated.

They're calling it a murder investigation.

Whatever happened, I hope that it was quick and that she did not suffer too much. Nobody's life should end like this.

Why shouldn't I comment like that? It still could be assisted suicide, gone a bit 'wrong', admittedly.

This. I disagreed with her on almost everything but this is absolutely appalling.

Absolutely.

Do police usually launch a murder investigation due a fall?

Gowlett · 10/07/2026 15:55

How awful for Anne Widdicombe.
She was a formidable lady, RIP.

I think it's highly unlikely that the police think she fell. They are experienced at telling which injuries are caused by a fall and which are caused by an attack. Thats the whole point of the police. Plus they are saying it's a suspected murder, not a suspected accident.

PerkingFaintly · 10/07/2026 15:55

What the heck?! Shock

FunStork · 10/07/2026 15:55

I pray that the police have got this wrong and she just fell, and it was all so quick.

But she was hated by far left activists.

Heather Herbert is a former Labour MSP. He and his trans activists friends were crowing about her death this morning.

This appalling sentiment typifies the raging heartlessness that lies within the core of these activists. ‘Hate is justified, if you disagree’. It’s a tactical mindset that has driven them for years & allowed them to remain the victims they so ye...

I am horrified to learn that she was murdered.
I didn't share many of her views but she was a strong and principled person worthy of respect.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 10/07/2026 15:46

That's awful if true.

I disagreed very strongly with her politics but I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Yes, this.

FunStork · 10/07/2026 15:51

Confirmed - it's a murder investigation.

I saw lots of LGBT activists celebrating her death this morning on Bluesky.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cp9l8l05vxet

What a mentally ill toxic response to a fellow human beings death. Reflects very very poorly on them as a “ community” that so many former members now wish to distance themselves from. I think that ‘ community’ has been reduced now to the overly vocal sociopathic bully brigade. Vile.

Gowlett · 10/07/2026 15:56

It is likely someone entered her home.
But we don’t know, of course. Terrible.

Fiendishandfiery · 10/07/2026 15:56

This is shocking, it is murder, the police have confirmed, and she’s died from a head wound and they are looking for a white male according to the bbc.

who in gods name would murder Anne Widdicombe or any 78 year 0ld woman.

TurquoiseDress · 10/07/2026 15:56

Wow I’ve just seen this as a headline, unbelievable. Saw her on TV just the other week…let’s hope they get all the answers

She certainly was and while I didn't agree with much of what she said I admired her ability to stand firm for her beliefs whether it was fashionable or not.

Lentilcakes · 10/07/2026 15:57

I’m just listening now - I wasn’t a fan of her, but this is awful. They haven’t said yet if it was politically motivated.
