Suspicious death, suspected murder. Think there is a press conference soon.

I thought she had just collapsed and died at home or something. Heart attack or embolism or something like that. I was no fan because I disagreed with her on so much, but God this is not on, is it?

TheFairyCaravan · 10/07/2026 16:04

I didn’t agree with her politics at all, however to die like this is just awful. She was an elderly lady, at the end of the day, who appears to have been brutally murdered in her own home. She must have been so scared. Poor woman

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 10/07/2026 15:46

That's awful if true.

I disagreed very strongly with her politics but I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Agree with this. I'd heard she'd died this morning and assumed natural causes. Murder is beyond the pale.

Seems unlikely.

She was on TV in the last few days and was very religious so I don't think she would have been a supporter of assisted dying.

luceygoosey · 10/07/2026 16:05

I’m completely politically opposed to everything she stood for, but nobody deserves to have their life ended by murder. I hope that the investigation is swift and justice is served.

What an awful thing to publically announce, that she hopes her death was extremely painful. Now she's going to look absolutely heartless and vile for saying that.

He.

Kaidaia · 10/07/2026 16:06

Who knows what happened yet. Could have been a fall or she could have been attacked. The police will have to investigate and we don’t know the details yet.

Viviennemary · 10/07/2026 16:06

This is awful. Just seen on Sky news 'police hunting a suspect believed to be a white male'

Shewas · 10/07/2026 16:06

When I first saw of an "investigation" I thought unexplained but likely a fall, but a murder investigation? 😲

Surely if she was going to be murdered because of her politics that would have been years ago? I wonder who stands to inherit, with no immeadiate family.

How long before Farage tries to make political capital out of it?

LeftFooter · 10/07/2026 16:06

Profoundly shocking. Poor woman. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

icingonmycupcake · 10/07/2026 16:06

We were poles apart politically but god almighty, the poor woman. 78 years old fgs. What a terrible end to her life. I hope they catch the person responsible quickly.

Condolences to her family and friends.

She does have family. I worked with one of her nephews years ago.

GrandmaMazur · 10/07/2026 16:07

I don’t understand why it matters whether you have the same political views as someone. It’s still possible to feel sad about their murder.

Anne Widdecombe was a committed Catholic. She would never had agreed to deliberately ending her own life, either with or without help from someone else.

Besides, the Telegraph report says that she was found with serious injuries.

I am getting an awful feeling that we are we looking at another David Amess or Jo Cox. Deliberately targeted and politically motivated.

I thing you mean 'he'. Heather Herbert is male.

Yes sorry just realised that, I didn't know who on earth he was but obviously it's still a vile comment.

Vaxtable · 10/07/2026 16:08

It also says they do t know if she was attacked or fell and hit her head. So let’s just wait and see

TemperanceWest · 10/07/2026 16:04

AW was completely opposed to assisted dying. Stop it.

FGS it was a reasonable suggestion before the police statement about serious injuries etc
And she may well have been opposed to assisted dying but that doesn't mean she would never do it herself if push came to shove. It's not as if im accusing her of a heinous crime fgs!!

ghostyslovesheets · 10/07/2026 16:09

Lampzade · 10/07/2026 15:59

I detest her politics , but this is just horrible

Me too - it’s just awful

Calliopespa · 10/07/2026 16:09

FunStork · 10/07/2026 15:55

I pray that the police have got this wrong and she just fell, and it was all so quick.

But she was hated by far left activists.

Heather Herbert is a former Labour MSP. He and his trans activists friends were crowing about her death this morning.

Imagine being that full of hate.

It is fine to disagree with people's stances but you don't kill them or celebrate their death because you disagree. That's taking things to another level.

That's why I said immeadiate family.

Eyesopenwideawake · 10/07/2026 15:43

Wow. I can't say I was sorry to hear she'd died but I'd assumed it was natural causes. I hope that's the case.

Seriously?? Perhaps those who disagree with you on various things will feel glad when you are dead.

The Home Secretary has urged the public "to avoid speculation.."
