Well if Starmer does go as a result of this let’s hope that doesn’t let Rayner back in. Don’t forget she also broke the rules but Starmer publicly said he hoped she’d come back again in some way .

I really hope so. With Starmer it's a series of incompetence judgements. He appointed RR as chancellor and she consistently lies from her CV to pretending to win a chess tournament when she was only something like 27th. He appointed Raynor tax dodger. He appointed Mandelson who had to resign once before due to dodgy behaviour so he definitely knew he was dodgy before he appointed him. Add that to taking a whole range of freebies from dresses for his wife, glasses, and suits to Arsenal hospitality and Ariana Grande tickets. Then there is his poor judgement and decision making in general, he also appointed Lammy who is giving away the Chargos Islands and paying billions to rent them back, which I really hope Trump puts a stop to. I read in the paper he is wanting to give asylum seekers new council houses above the people who have been on the wIting list for many years. He is the worst PM I can recall, worse than even Truss.

The Chagos Island ‘giveaway’ has been cancelled, just last week, after some harsh words from Trump ( the islands have an US air base on them ).

Truss was far, far worse than Starmer. Why do you suppose she only lasted a month and a half in the job?

Mauritius are planning on sueing us now for millions. Well done David Lammy.

Agreed send them to the tower!

MrsHemswoth · 03/02/2026 18:17

I’m a rational left leaning liberal and tried to really get behind Starmer initially, he is good in some ways but I do think that appointing Mandy showed a huge lack of judgement- and I’m afraid slip ups like that might be his downfall.

RedToothBrush · 03/02/2026 18:17

Starmer tried to head it off and was quick off the blocks to say he should quit the Lords.

So damage limitation was rolling fast. It might save Starmer. It might not.

Depends on how much he knew and when.

She had the right idea about lowering taxes etc..but went about it wrong by failing to cut costs. Labour are failing to cut costs and are raising taxes too. Neither of which is great.

38thparallel · 03/02/2026 18:07

@StarChamber what will Boris be sent to jail for?

Breaking the law.

Why did PM get to resign (eventually) rather than be sacked?

Yes. Who could have possibly predicted that the buffoon that is David Lammy could stuff this up eh?

Pineneedlesincarpet · 03/02/2026 18:19

StarChamber · 03/02/2026 18:18

Breaking the law.

Which law?

Hazlenuts2016 · 03/02/2026 17:04

Could it bring down Farage too? Lots of references to him. Possible Russian connections. They never did convincingly rule out Russian involvement in Brexit.

This. Farage has been very quiet about references to him eh?

Yes, it’s always the ‘who knew what, and when?’ that bites them on the arse. Who were Mandelson’s ministers for instance is now of interest (Lammy and McFadden).

tanstaafl · 03/02/2026 18:14

Just you wait til Reform gets in if you think that's bad

StarChamber · 03/02/2026 18:24

Pineneedlesincarpet · 03/02/2026 18:19

Which law?

The Russian involvement in Brexit, Cambridge Analytica, and the unlawful proroguing of Parliament, for starters.

Rhaidimiddim · 03/02/2026 18:29

Bromptotoo · 03/02/2026 16:09

What's emerged now raises questions about Starmer's judgement in appointing Mandelson Ambassador to US. M is said to have lied, or at least been economical with the truth when asked whether there was anything in his past that might bite but one might expect there to be records held by the security services.

While those of us prepared to cut politicians who were misled some slack might sympathise a man with a bitten bum I don't think there's much doubt Starmer's credibility with the man on the street has taken a hit.

Analysis on lunchtime radio news was that he's now at a point where losing the Gorton by-election might be fatal.

He had to step down TWICE while part of the Labour government because of grift. Starmer knew about this, and still appointed him.

It won't be Mandy who brings down.the Labour government, it will be Mandy's friends.

As far as I have heard theres been no references to Farage in his pants, getting JE to procure underage girls or giving state secrets to JE to pass on to whoever wants them. So thats wishful thinking on your part.

JE doesnt seem NF's style really but thats just my own opinion.

JE isnt NF's style, I agree. But other things are his style. I predict if Reform.gets in, we'll be here again( i.e in Scandal Land ) in no time at all . Isn't one of the Reform bunch already some kind of tax dodger. You just wait.

ValidPistachio · 03/02/2026 18:30

She had the right idea about lowering taxes etc..but went about it wrong by failing to cut costs. Labour are failing to cut costs and are raising taxes too. Neither of which is great.

There's also the small matter of the fact that she was very obviously overwhelmed by the demands of the role and could barely string together a coherent sentence. The same cannot be said of Starmer.

caringcarer · 03/02/2026 18:30

Daygloboo · 03/02/2026 18:22

I can't see Reform giving away Islands owned by UK.

AnnasFangs · 03/02/2026 18:30

Pineneedlesincarpet · 03/02/2026 18:02

Why? Do you think Mandelson is going to get off scot free? I dont think so

I was talking about the trial of the arsonists, as you know.

StarChamber · 03/02/2026 18:24

The Russian involvement in Brexit, Cambridge Analytica, and the unlawful proroguing of Parliament, for starters.

Proroguing was a red herring and a storm in a tea cup to coin a couple of phrases. Its not criminal. It was entirely meaningless and had no effect. It wasted a lot of time arguing and was only for a couple of useless days anyway.

Russian involvement in Brexit...what crime did Boris commit in relation to the Russians?

Cambridge Analytica. Again..what crime did Boris commit?
