Just wondering.

@Parker231 ok but if he hadn't how would you have got him to leave as in your pp?

Do you mean Ukraine join NATO rn? Wouldn't that just trigger a full scale NATO / Russia war?

ChubbyMorticia · 21/02/2025 22:14

As a Canadian, the level of contempt and disrespect he’s shown our country and Prime Minister is astounding.

TheNoonBell · 21/02/2025 23:30

Parker231 · 21/02/2025 22:03

Unfortunately Trump has thrown Ukraine under a bus and is now siding with Putin. Ukraine will probably have now lost their chance at NATO membership with the protection that would have brought them. Putin will have free rein to do what he wants in the region. Europe is less safe.

Slovakia and Hungary have long said they will veto Ukraine joining NATO.

Apparently that’s no big deal because he doesn’t mean it.

I honestly think he’s capable of anything at this point.

The White House is looking more like a daycare with kiddies running around, it’s quite embarrassing for any American blue or red .
not to mention Lucifer next him all the time.

maybe on the Ukraine we should all see it in a different light , it’s been going on for exactly 3 years , it’s time to end it , Europe don’t want to end it , the Biden administration didn’t want to end it, and when Zelenskyy was ready for talks he was discouraged , the whole world is paying the price.

When it means aborting the pregnancy, understandably medics are reluctant to do it because they don't fancy being subject to a long and unpleasant investigation and/or trial.

Have a look, for instance, at the experience of Kyleigh Thurman who was turned away from a Texas hospital despite her obstetrician advising that she probably had an ectopic pregnancy. She only received treatment several days later, by which time she was bleeding and in agony, after her obstetrician travelled to the hospital to plead with the staff to terminate. The delay caused the pregnancy to rupture, she nearly bled to death, and had to have emergency surgery to remove a fallopian tube.

Or how about Kelsie Norris-De La Cruz, who was refused treatment for an ectopic pregnancy with another Texas hospital? By the time she was treated, her pregnancy was near rupture, and she lost a fallopian tube and most of her right ovary.

There are far too many similar reports. Texas challenged the Biden government's guidance requiring states to offer abortions in life-endangering situations, and there is real fear that Trump will withdraw it.

It's horrific. I'm lost for words.

Of course, foreign powers are free to withdraw their support from Ukraine as they see fit.

The trouble is even Zelenskyy knows he can't continue without the US. So people may want him to take the decision but he needs funds to do that.

Since Putin invaded and up until last few months I was all in for funding a proxy war. Money only, not troops. But two things softened that strong view, the sheer number of deaths on all sides and the discussion around the inability of a Ukraine win

I can't see any other realistic options to stop the deaths, I'm not sure there are any

Well I suppose from Trumps point of view if Putin can invade another country and keep land and the invaded get blamed for starting a war it will set a precedent if he invades Canada/Greenland/Gaza. Suits him and he will be able to blame those invaded people for not welcoming him with open arms

Whose first and how long will the list get?

Ukraine.

Not "the Ukraine"

Language matters

Cantonet · 22/02/2025 14:22

I don't think he cares about the war, he just wants the rare elements. Apparently he's threatened Ukraine with the withdrawal of Starlink, unless Zelensky cooperates in giving him these rights to mine.

I wish I knew - both Trump and Putin are loose cannons quite literally and incredibly stupid and dangerous. I dread to think what life is going to look like for the Ukrainians.

@skippy67 - no - to answer your question.
but - I am glad he’s signed the order saying there are only two sexes.

Edited

Now I largely agree with you over this. And it is important , but can you really ignore everything else because of this one point?

Francesgumm · 25/02/2025 15:20

I haven’t said I’m ignoring anything else at all.
I haven’t said I agree with anything else he has said or done. I just said I agree that there are only two sexes and I’m hoping this will filter through to the UK sooner rather than later.

It’s important but minor compared to many of the incredibly detrimental actions he is taking which impact a far wider audience.

Well he's delivering on promises. I'd desperately love for a DOGE type of audit in this country, the spending they've uncovered is absolutely criminal.

There is no evidence for this - they have not been transparent with what they have found and any ‘savings’ have been very small compared with what Elon is pocketing. You just have to read a few sources to see that they are lying.

My brothers are Trump supporters. One is very religious and his views are coloured by what he believes about the “Deep State” and how governments are trying to control us🙄 He has fully gone down the rabbit hole and talks about the UN as a globalist organisation set on global power, left wing loonies and “woke nonsense”. The other is just not very bright and talks about his “love of America” even though I have been to far more places than him in the US and he’s only been to DisneyWorld FFS. He thinks Trump will make America properous again but if he lived there, he probably be living in a trailer park on Medicaid. He has no idea. It drives me absolutely mad arguing with them.

A significant number of MAGAs are Christian nationalists who believe Trump has been chosen by God so there is not dissuading them - especially as most of listen to nothing else but right wing media and are brainwashed by it. They have no inkling of what critical thinking is and just believe everywhere pumped out on these right wing podcasts/news programmes/Twitter (X) etc.

It’s very draining and I get really angry about it but my one hope is that Trump will fuck up so badly that he will have to leave office. But on the other side, I worry that the damage he inflicts will take years and years to sort out and the USA will never quite be the same again. If it was just affecting them, I would be mad enough but it will have repercussions globally😞

lljkk · 25/02/2025 20:49

MNers make gender issue more important than anything else all the time in their decision making. It is very weird.

Years ago my dad visited fundy Christian relatives who felt as strongly about how awful Obama was as I feel now about how bad Trump is. I suppose a big difference in 2025 vs. 2013 is that there were no NeverObama folk: dems who loathed Obama. In contrast, there's a large number of ex-Republicans who loathe Trump.

I often wonder how well Mitch McConnell sleeps at night.

Talkinpeace · 25/02/2025 21:02

MNers make gender issue more important than anything else all the time in their decision making. It is very weird.

Women wanting misogynistic men's rights activist put back in their box is not weird.

Title IX guaranteed girls the chance to win running races.
Biden's changes took that away.

In the UK multiple pieces of legislation protect women from predatory men.
Gender ideology took that away.

The incel and MRA movement gave us Andrew Tate
its not weird to fight against that.

sleepwouldbenice · 25/02/2025 21:43

I think most have said that they do think these issues are important .

But it's importance compared to other issues, or even to the exclusion of other issues that stuns people. Some directly relating to women (abortion rights, misogynistic views) others generic (wars, COL).

Talkinpeace · 25/02/2025 21:57

Roe v wade was able to be overturned because the "gender" wording changes made by Biden
meant it was was no longer sex discrimination
(as we are told that birthing persons can have any gender)

I blame gender ideology for the weakening of abortion protection

and the misogyny of telling women to shut up and be kind
feeds into the whole MRA approach

Outside the media bubble, everybody knows that men in women's prisons and sports and hospital wards is crazy

Trump tapped into that dissociation from the Beltway

sleepwouldbenice · 25/02/2025 22:51

I blame Trump and his appointments

And think there are other critical issues

No, Roe v Wade was overturned because the Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution doesn’t explicitly protect the right to an abortion, therefore leaving the decision to each state. It’s pretty obvious that if by doing what Trump has done regarding ‘two sexes only’ he was going to weaken the current ‘pro-life’ crusade, then he wouldn’t have done it.
