I see him sticking to what he promised in his election campaign and actually making Starmer and the rest of the European leaders sit up and do something regarding Ukraine. I don't see how people can knock him for sticking to his policies, it's because of those policies people voted him in. Regardless of your opinion on him surely you can't criticise someone for doing what they said they'd do.

Did he promise to crawl up Putin's rectum? I don't remember him campaigning on that.

@MercurialButton saying that saving money would be a "win" without considering the knock-on effects of those savings is incredibly short-sighted.

The US could save a huge amount of taxpayer money in the short term by stopping all funding for Medicare/Medicaid, public schools and maintenance of road infrastructure. But the long term effects would be crippling.

So your view is that all those USAID programs are essential? Every penny essential?
1% … 1%. …. You think that even 1% “savings” would be crippling ???

Interesting that you would be happy to just leave the spending unchecked.

DOGE Says It’s Saved $55 Billion; Data Show Much Less

Cost-cutting effort itemizes about $8.6 billion in savings

Data includes error that inflates value of DOGE savings so far

Still alright.

That’s absolutely not what they said and either you can’t comprehend what someone writes, or you’re being deliberately obtuse.

slashing spend willy nilly with no regard to the consequences is not “making savings”. It may be, but it may also turn out to be counter productive and/or stupid (as some of the actions taken have already proven to be).

saying that does not mean there are no savings to be found, or that they should not be looked for. It’s just that care should be taken to ensure the benefit outweighs the cost. I see no such care being taken

You would think if something was so serious and vital that it wouldn't have been allowed to descend into the abject clownshow that it has in many areas

I suggest you read and respond to what I actually wrote rather than your made-up nonsense about what you imagine my views are.

DOGE has been operational for a few weeks. They are not yet in a position to declare any "savings". Their numbers are meaningless at the minute. So why are they putting out numbers at all?🤔

Your continuing inability to accurately comprehend what others have written is a "you" problem, not a "them" problem.

Because some people will believe anything without bothering to check.

Although I doubt the numbers are going to cut through much when voters find themselves unemployed and the services to help the unemployed have been eradicated.

MercurialButton · 20/02/2025 17:56

HowardTJMoon · 20/02/2025 16:14

If you backpedal far enough, you will find that you and your “them” problems, are 100% your “inability” problem. Looking forward to another of your attempts at having a triumphant last word.

DOGE is all a lie.
Their numbers and links are lies.

USAID paid US farmers to grow crops
those farmers will now not get paid

The essence of Trump's point is that Zelensky is, essentially at this juncture, unelected.
This isn't new - using the term dictator is certainly a deliberate escalation, however conservative politicians in America have been calling for elections in Ukraine for the past two years.

How do you propose that free and fair elections should be held given that Ukraine is at war after Russia's invasion; parts of the country are under foreign occupation; and many Ukrainian citizens have been forced into exile. I'm interested in knowing how people think the logistics of this would work.

I don't propose (detailed in my subsequent posts).

"I'd desperately love for a DOGE type of audit in this country, "

What audit? They haven't audited anything - they've just started randomly firing people. All so simplistic people would cheer and rave at fucking over civil servants. Civil servants being just average citizens who do the day to day work of running the country.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 20/02/2025 19:40

SassK · 20/02/2025 18:51

Fair enough, I hadn't connected that you were the same poster.

I don't agree with your assessment though that Trump is simply doing what needs to be done. Of course, we all want the killing to stop, but not in a way that encourages and rewards aggression. I can't see how that will lead to a sustainable peace at all.

EasternStandard · 20/02/2025 19:45

What do you see the realistic options are for this?

Talkinpeace · 20/02/2025 20:40

Do the farmers sell their crops?

The US Rice farmers have to find other customers for a crop that is already in the ground.
The USA does not need that rice - that is why they sold it to the Government for overseas aid.
Those farmers will suffer massive financial losses
due to Trump
