Dawn Butler racism just fine according to Labour

Well, didn’t take long for labour ministers to show their real beliefs did it. According to Dawn Butler, Kemi Badenoch is “a white supremacist in blackface” (with apologies to all for re-typing her massively offensive words). According to the lovely KS this is all just fine, nothing to see here, move along.

One rule for labour, one rule for everybody else. Again. Last time it was failure to declare gifts. This time it is blatant racism. How hideous this government is and what rank hypocrites.

Dawn Butler must have the whip withdrawn otherwise I don’t want to hear one more word from this racist government.

You clearly haven’t read my post correctly. Maybe try again.

I have reread it. You've referred to Boris Johnson for some reason and then said because he was elected PM, Dawn's comments aren't punishable.

If you are trying to make a general apolitical statement about the way the world is going, you should be clearer as, as you drafted it you are suggesting some comparison between Boris Johnson and Dawn (a racist).

In response to this question, Cooper said:

As I said, I haven't seen the post and I think those sorts of issues around party issues, those are always ones for the Whip.

It appears that this is a decision for the Whip.

I look forward to the whip being removed, an investigation or suspension

Something other than that vague remark from Cooper

That's good to know.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 04/11/2024 13:11

So do I @EasternStandard - won’t hold my breath though, KS is busily trying to sweep it under the carpet.

I take it you're keen for Butler to remain and Cooper's statement is all you'd like to see?

He also seems to be getting from the other angle as MPs are annoyed a black female leader has been successful for the conservatives and Labour are no where near that

He will be too lily livered to react to this

It's so revealing isn't it. I think people realise more and more that despite what the left think and say that they are, it is all fake. They are racist and they are the nasty party. Rachel Reeves will take a long time to live down "we can't afford to let farmers die tax-free" if she ever can. That's to an industry which has a high suicide rate anyway.

That party has no soul at the moment.

Did she actually say that? My god.

He’ll have to face the subject of Dawn’s abuse in PMQ’s soon @EasternStandard - wonder if he might apologise to her then on behalf of his bigoted MP?

If you think posts are derailing the thread there is a report option.

I quite like how threads range around topics, it's like taking a walk and admiring the view rather than racing to your destination.

I am cognisant of the rules but thanks anyway.

I feel like she's not long for the post. Keir will throw her under a bus like he did Sue Gray. RR will be a useful scapegoat when things start going down the pan.

Nordione1 · 04/11/2024 13:20

Oh right. Tuition fees are going up.

Another group discriminated against for the benefit of public sector trade union member.

So what do you want to happen? It sounds very much like Starmer is damned if he does (throw her under a bus) and damned if he doesn't (lily livered). Racism is awful and should be dealt with of course. This thread reads like a good excuse for general Labour bashing rather than dealing with the specific issue and person responsible.

Of course it's about Dawn Butler and her actions, that's pretty clear.

Why do people always go on about 'Labour bashing' anyway. They are not immune to criticism.

The decision on what to do involves Starmer, it makes sense to talk about that too.

She should lose the whip.

Personally I think she should lose the Whip. And I think she will. I don't think Keir S is lily livered. I think he's utterly ruthless and will throw anyone under a bus if it suits him. He's not exactly loyal to his colleagues.

And he won't do it for moral reasons or that he thinks Dawn is racist. He will do it because public pressure will mean he has to distance himself.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 04/11/2024 13:30

How the hell can you say that @BotanicalGreen - I have been going on and on and on in this thread about “the specific issue and person responsible” - I have actually pleaded above to posters to stick to “the specific issue and person responsible” but they won’t - those seemingly supporting Dawn keep going on about BJ. It’s like trying to nail down jelly.

As a pp said, you either condemn this racist tweet or you don’t. It’s not that difficult.

I do condemn any racism and explicitly said so. Furthermore, my post wasn't addressed to your comments. It was addressing the comments about Starmer being lily livered if he doesn't address it (he has to IMO) or throwing her under a bus if he does. What do people want him to do?

Remove the whip

I agree but I can't see why that is a criticism of Starmer. He has to put propriety before anything else in this. It's not about loyalty to colleagues. It's about doing what is right for the country. That is the responsibility of his position. So even if he does the right thing, he is damned in your book, is that right? (edited for typo)

I agree. What I don't agree with is all the speculation about ulterior motives. He does the right thing or he doesn't. End of.

I'm just a bit of a cynic when it comes to KS and his motives. And I'm just predicting what I think might happen (she will lose the whip) and why I think he will make that decision.

Well he usually does the wrong thing. But in this case he will probably have to do the right thing but by default due to public pressure. He won't want to do it as his morals are skewed. But he will have to.

There's still some trade unions that would not back a female Labour leader. It's not an official refusal, it's not written down, the membership just wouldn't vote for one. Misogyny is rife in certain unions.

Edited

Labour have a woeful record on this, and I think much of it is down to the Unions, and also Labour members unfortunately. Lots if woke bros pretending to be ' progressive' who would not elect a woman as leader. The race issue, I'm not sure, but possibly for the same reason. Dawn Butler is an absolute idiot though. She spouts the stupidest things on a variety of subjects. Black and Brown people are as entitled to have differing views on politics as anyone else. It is the main thing that irritates me about the Left ( even though I voted Labour) That they have such entrenched views on this, and come up with such crap all the time. I believe this is a Hard Left trait. Labour are a centre Left government with a core of Labour members and MP's on the Hard Left who's loathing for the Labour government far outweighs anything the Tories could throw at them.
