Dawn Butler racism just fine according to Labour

Well, didn’t take long for labour ministers to show their real beliefs did it. According to Dawn Butler, Kemi Badenoch is “a white supremacist in blackface” (with apologies to all for re-typing her massively offensive words). According to the lovely KS this is all just fine, nothing to see here, move along.

One rule for labour, one rule for everybody else. Again. Last time it was failure to declare gifts. This time it is blatant racism. How hideous this government is and what rank hypocrites.

Dawn Butler must have the whip withdrawn otherwise I don’t want to hear one more word from this racist government.

I am not an idiot thank you very much. I understand the issues. I repeat - I do not see why farmers should have a special right to inherit without paying tax. Yes, maybe they will have to sell their farms just as wealthy people have always had to do and middle class people with their estates too.

Ok. In simple terms, if farmers have to sell their land they can no longer produce food. If we lose our farms, we lose our food. Our only option then would be to import all of our food. Is that what you would like to see happen? I prefer the UK to have food security personally.
Back to Dawn Butler!

Dawn Butler does seem to have the most extraordinary amount of leeway to say the most dreadful things about MPs without any consequence.

Why though?
I genuinely don't understand why this is seen as ok. An elected MP has retweeeted an abhorrent, racist comment about the leader of the opposition.

This is actually one of those issues where the downsides are so obvious it really isn't an arguable point.

What do you think happens when those farms are sold? I live in a rural area and every single farm that has been sold near me in the twenty years I've lived here is now no longer a farm. There is no profit in farming and sentiment is pretty much the only thing that keeps farming families going. The farms for sale around here get parcelled up and are bought by horse people. So none of that land is used for food production now.

If you bother to think about our food security, it's genuinely terrifying. We are so vulnerable as a nation. I don't think keeping horses should be a permitted use of agricultural land, but that's probably by-the-by, since there certainly aren't people willing to buy up farms and go into farming as a career.

porridgecake · 05/11/2024 02:19

As soon as brexit happened we should have had a huge drive to invest in and support farming so we could produce as much food as humanly possible. During WW2 we would have starved if the country hadn't got cracking with food production. How on earth are we going to cope when we have to import most of our food? Not to mention the carbon footprint of all those food miles. We think food is expensive now? It will get a lot worse.

User37482 · 05/11/2024 04:52

Oh yes, had the same I’m centre right generally. Had a discussion on another thread about why it’s ok for ethnic minority people to have opinions on immigration. I wish people would just get it over and done with and call me a race traitor or a coconut like they seem to really want to.

She's an absolutely appalling woman. But Labour have a problem. Since KS has been in charge he's already had to remove the whip from/suspend Diane Abbott, Apsana Begum, Rupa Huq and Zarah Sultana. Can anyone see an awkward pattern there?

I mean it's bad enough for Labour that the Tories, this allegedly increasingly 'far right' and 'racist' party according to many, have already had an Indian heritage Prime Minister and former Chancellor, 2 female Indian heritage Home Secretaries, 3 female prime ministers, a female of Nigerian heritage now leading the party and likely to be the next PM, plus a Chancellor of Pakistani heritage and one of Ghanaian heritage, plus James Cleverly and Nadim Zahawi.

Dawn Butler absolutely should be on that list of suspended MPs. It's not her first offence yet she's been let off the hook. Plenty of black and ethnic minority people in Labour (as well as several Guardian journalists and left wing bloggers) have used unforgiveable language about Kemi, as they previously did for Suella and Priti in particular, Kwasi K and others, in relation to their ethnicity apparently being out of line with their politics.

But frankly if KS suspended every ethnic minority MP who indulged in 'black and brown intra-communal language or forms of critique, satire or compliment (e.g. coconut, Uncle Tom, Aunt Kemi, house negro, choc ice etc.)' or said something anti-semitic, he'd risk having no ethnic minority MPs left.

Edited

This, it’s trying to shame ethnic minority people into conforming. I don’t understand why people can’t see the simple fact that it enforces the narrative that ethnic minority people are a bloc. We are not.

It isn’t using valid arguments about principles it’s saying people are basically race traitors to shame them into towing a line that they don’t actually believe in. It’s lazy and stupid. Play the ball not the man.

In general, I find left-wing people far nastier than moderate conservatives. Frankie Boyle is a good example. He has said the most horrific things over the years. He made tasteless jokes about Jade Goody, for example. There are lines you don’t cross in life, and that was one of them. When a young woman, with small children, dies of cancer, you don’t joke about it. You just don’t. He also made vile jokes about Saddam Hussein’s execution. Hussain was a wicked man, but you don’t laugh at someone being hung. I don’t believe Boyle cares about the poor one tiny bit. He seems motivated entirely by hatred. And like so many left-wing people, he is destructive. A lot of lefties never grow out of the adolescent rebel stage. You know, the desire to smash things just to get a reaction. But like so many left-wing people, Boyle uses his politics as a kind of mask or shield. “I’m left-wing, which means I’m a goodie, which means my nastiness doesn’t count”. I get the same vibe off Russell Brand. “OK, I might be a serial abuser, but I wrote a book calling for left-wing revolution, so I can’t be a bad man.” To be left-wing means to be good, end of story. Time and again I’m struck by the similarities between left-wing people and religious fundamentalists.

Moral license, people who declare themselves to have what they perceive as virtuous behaviours (in this case voting) allow themselves to be vile and still think they are good people because they are on the “right” side.

HotPipe · 05/11/2024 08:14

I liked Kemi's response of I don't see skin colour. This is how we should be and judge the person, not the colour of their skin.

Dawn Butler's 'like and retweet' is racist and offensive. I am surprised people defend her especially Sir Keir Starmer.

Thank you for your posts, particularly the above on trying to shame ethnic minority people into conforming and playing the ball not the man, or woman on this occasion.

I couldn’t agree more, it absolutely stinks. Still no action from the labour party leadership so Dawn’s tweets still a-ok with them. Shameful.

We can all see who the “nasty” party is in this offensive spat, and it’s certainly not the conservatives. How times have changed.

I was just thinking about Robert Jenerik tonight, you know the Justice Minister who demanded a Micky mouse murial, at a migrant centre for children was painted over because it was too “welcoming”
For nastiness the Tory’s are on 100 and Labour on about 3, so they have lots of catching up to do in that department.

You'll be told you're derailing the thread. Anyone who criticises the Tories is 'derailing' the thread. And besides, that happened more than five minutes ago, so it doesn't count.

You think calling the leader of the opposition a white supremacist in blackface is a three?

Off we go again round the houses… Jenrick said, Boris said ad Infinitum. Not got
much to say about Dawn or her racism
still have you @username7891. How about you @LizzieSiddal - care to comment on the actual thread topic rather than obvious and tedious distraction techniques.

Do you both condemn DB’s racism towards
KB or not? That’s what this thread is about. How many more times FGS!

The comment was very inappropriate and insulting but struggling to see how it is racist. Getting the feeling that it is only people who aren’t affected by racism who are claiming that the comment is racist. It is not racist. Insulting and very disrespectful yes. But not racist.

Again, people are responding to what you post. You said Labour are the nasty party and someone responded to that.

I've noticed that people here have been talking about unions and taxes on farmers which has nothing to do with the thread but you've said nothing. It comes across as two tier.

If you don't want anyone to talk about anything but the retweet, then post on nothing else.

I was responding to a post, it’s called a conversation.

Try it sometime.

The phrase was “a white supremacist in blackface”. 40% of the words in that phrase mention skin colour. How is that not racist?

Because she's a black woman saying that to another black woman that's OK. That's the difference here that deliberately is being ignored

Interesting that you used the word "difference". Nobody expects all white / men / religious / whatever to believe the same, as a mono-block. What gives one black woman the right to tell another black woman what she "should" believe.

There's another thread running at the moment about the American election and Left-wing politics generally. The consensus is that throwing insults is not a good look and doesn't convert / persuade anyone to your 'side'. We need debate, not sneering.

You realise how ridiculous you're being? There are no free passes based on skin colour, racist behaviour is still racist. Do white klan members get a pass for calling other white people race traitors when they don't behave the way they'd like. Using your logic they would.

I am not saying they have to think the same but showing evidence to show that kemi is using white nationalistic lang i don't have a problem with i agree with dawn. The very point is Guido harris Boris advisor stated that she as in kemi could say stuff white men can't wonder what it is that they want to say

Kemi more likely to have a few on that side that would think she's an acceptable black woman though . So there is that

Is racism acceptable when it is applied to a member of your own race, in your opinion? It's a yes or no.
