Thatcher, the worst Prime Minister Britain ever had.

Thatcher wrecked British manufacturing industry and devastated whole areas of Britain by her obsession with high interest rates.

Under her rule crime rates soared. The Health Service was wrecked. Before she came to power it was the best in the world. After 11 years of her rule it was the worst in the developed world.

Britain's mental hospitals were closed and their inhabitants dumped on to the streets of our cities to be a menace both to themselves and to the general public.

All forms of physical punishment were banned in schools, thus wrecking the education system for ordinary people.

Thatcher crucified the Health Service and was responsible for a number of equally wretchedly mean actions, such as abolishing the Wages Councils and making various cuts in welfare benefits. And breaking the State pensions link with national average wages

Margaret Thatcher also ruined the Social structure of this country by stopping the building of Social housing during her Premiership.

yes they did do some good things, but they did a hell of a lot more bad things. That's why the public decided enough was enough and showed them the door. They thought that 5 more years could lead to Stasi Britain.

claig · 23/01/2011 16:03

Even Miliband says they did lots wrong and says that the era of New Labour is over. They are now reinventing themselves as progressives, in a bid to win back the people's trust.

Shineynewthings · 23/01/2011 16:05

SHE WAS THE WORST. BUT DC IS DEFINATELY GIVING HER A RUN FOR HER MONEY.

claig · 23/01/2011 16:09

Memories are long and spin is cheap. It will take them many years to again be able to pull the wool over the people's eyes.

newwave · 23/01/2011 16:16

craig, you wish, Labour does not have to do very much to win the next election. The damage that will be done to many people will be fresh in peoples minds, the rising unemployment, record youth unemployment, declining pension values, rising NHS waiting times etc etc.

The current 6th formers and University students are being politicised and are hardly likely to vote Con-Dem after all the lies from Clegg and Cable.

Governments lose elections and this one certainly will. The local and Scottish elections will be a taste of things to come.

longfingernails · 23/01/2011 16:17

Hopefully, on the sad day when Mrs Thatcher leaves us, a statue of her will be placed to fill the fourth plinth on Trafalgar Square.

Like Nelson before her, she made us proud to be British.

claig · 23/01/2011 16:23

many Labour voters want to believe that, but I don't think it will happen. I don't think that even Miliband believes it. They know that they have a tough job ahead of them and it could take them a long time to recover.

You are right, many people are becoming increasingly politicised, and that is a very good thing. It doesn't matter if they choose to believe Labour. It is good that they are getting involved and asking questions. They will have an influence on the Tories and it will lead to changes. The Tories will adapt and take the interests of the people into account.

newwave · 23/01/2011 16:24

Wrong, she made any right thinking person sick to their stomachs. As for "sad day" the sooner the better as I have a celebration party to plan on that happy day.

Anyway, I have never been "proud to be British" in that jingoistic, little Englander way you seem to espouse. I have always been proud of our liberal traditions of caring and help to the needy.

complimentary · 23/01/2011 16:44

Newwave. There is nothing WRONG with 'being proud to be British' If being a little Englander means being patriotic, love this country, then I've been one a long time!

RULE BRITANNIA!! Grin

newwave · 23/01/2011 16:55

Comp, each to their own.

I am ashamed of our colonial past and the destruction and invasion of other cultures> I am ashamed of us being Americas poodle.

I am proud of our opposition to the Fascists in WW11 and our policies of welcoming refugees from war torn countries (shame we supplied many of the arms used in these wars).

My country, yes, my country right or wrong, no.

complimentary · 23/01/2011 18:03

Newwave. The Empire did some wrong things, but many right. Dipak Lal wrote a great book, 'In Praise of Empire'. It's a good read!

I like many counties who had empires Spain, Turkey etc; are not ashamed of their countries or empires. As said IMO we did some wrong/right. Britian made the modern world.
I'm hugely proud of our acheivements. This country does not blow it's trumpet enough.

This country IS NOT Americas poodle, that is the reserve of Tony Blair, he was George Bush's poodle. 1 milllion marched against the invasion of Iraq, but as usual politicians lie and drag the wonderful British people into a war we did not want.

As long as our so called politicians and some people slander our country and poor scorn on it, there will be people like me who will speak up for it.

complimentary · 23/01/2011 18:05

Newwave. If I felt about this country as you do, I Would have emigrated a long time ago!

ivanhoe · 23/01/2011 18:28

Britain has an ego bigger than the Empire State building.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 23/01/2011 18:30

Yep, Labour under Milliband will win next time. David Milliband that is - they will ditch Ed.

ivanhoe · 23/01/2011 18:30

Comp, a stupid Statement, but Newwave is right about Britain, we stink from the top down, but weve lived among the smell for so long, we no longer smell it.

ivanhoe · 23/01/2011 18:31

Comp, I love to know your age ?

OP posts:
newwave · 23/01/2011 18:35

Comp, you do talk some crap at times.

I have said we have done good and bad. Having an empire was wrong, what right did we have to invade other peoples countries.

We "invented" concentration camps in South Africa. We stole other countries resources and treasures (which we wont return). We treated indigenous populations as second class people in their own countries. What gave us the right to do that.

As for emigrating that would be a dereliction of my duty to oppose all Tories and their vile practises :o

jodevizes · 23/01/2011 19:24

You think she was bad, you should have seen Pitt the Elder.

claig · 23/01/2011 19:56

Was he the man that advised Gordon Brown?

complimentary · 23/01/2011 20:06

Newwave. Other countries have done far worse, but don't slag off their own countries! (continually)

George Orwell was right when he said 'British socialists are the only ones that hate their own country!' Grin

complimentary · 23/01/2011 20:08

Ivanhoe. You 'show' me your age, and I may 'show' you mine! On the other hand I might lie! Grin

complimentary · 23/01/2011 20:10

Labour won't win the next election, the've ruined the country in the last 13 years!

newwave · 23/01/2011 20:47

comp, the con-dems will lose the next election due to the massive damage they are going to do to peoples incomes (three year pay freezes in most of the public sector along with 3.5% plus inflation). Limited if any pay rises in the private sector (except in the boardroom of course). The damage to the NHS and public sector provision. The loss of libraries and day care centres, the loss of help to the old and disabled.

Unemployment will reach at least 3.5 million. Youth unemployment is ALREADY at record levels.

The lies told before the election in regard to CB remaining a universal benefit, the retention of EMA, the LDF and their uni fees lies.

Labour does not need to "win" the next election all they need to do is show the crap the Tories and landing on most peoples lives, except for the rich of course.

huddspur · 23/01/2011 21:11

newwave- I'm not sure anyone can credibly predict the next election as we are still very early into this Parliament and we don't know what will happen over the next few years. We don't even know what electoral system the next election will be fought under.

ivanhoe · 23/01/2011 21:22

There is somebody here that hits the nail right on the head.
