Thatcher, the worst Prime Minister Britain ever had.

Thatcher wrecked British manufacturing industry and devastated whole areas of Britain by her obsession with high interest rates.

Under her rule crime rates soared. The Health Service was wrecked. Before she came to power it was the best in the world. After 11 years of her rule it was the worst in the developed world.

Britain's mental hospitals were closed and their inhabitants dumped on to the streets of our cities to be a menace both to themselves and to the general public.

All forms of physical punishment were banned in schools, thus wrecking the education system for ordinary people.

Thatcher crucified the Health Service and was responsible for a number of equally wretchedly mean actions, such as abolishing the Wages Councils and making various cuts in welfare benefits. And breaking the State pensions link with national average wages

Margaret Thatcher also ruined the Social structure of this country by stopping the building of Social housing during her Premiership.

I was agreeing with you. I was at the poll tax demonstrations. I was the child of a single mother during the 80s we had barely any food or heat. She was evil. I never once thought she lacked intelligence though, just a heart and soul, unlike Cameron. There was no need to be so rude.

Please accept my apologise.

Thatcher was indeed an evil old cow. Cameron is no different.

Again im sorry for being rude.

Thatcher supporters particularly would say the followin,-

  1. Your mum should not have had children if she could not afford to look after them.
  1. There are lways jobs for those "who Want to work.

This is the narrow mindedness that has been running Britain since the 80's particularly, when Thatcher demonised the welfare State, the unemployed, the homeless, the single parent, and the elderly.

Just like Hitler demonised the jews and other ethnic minorities.

I know it was a terrible time. My mother worked full time for the NHS. She also looked after all of her children and a mother with dementia and never claimed any benefit. Nevertheless, Thatcher made our lives a misery, her job was hell and we had nothing. People spat on her in the street for being a "single mum" thanks to the hatred Thatcher spread. Worse happened but I won't post it here. I have a terrible fear of that hatred returning.

I will never forget having to wear a hat and my coat in lessons at school because the rain came in. I can remember one of my teachers sobbing with their head in their hands during the teaching strikes. Life was hell for the majority. It is a shame people have such short memories. Before we know it we will have returned to those days.

I'm going to have to disagree. If Thatcher was such a evil old cow, how come every prime minister following her always invites her to No10 as soon as they get into power? And that includes his Tonyness and el Gordo?

Thatcher didn't wreck manufacturing, it was already wrecked. Destroyed by the unions with their ridiculous pay demands and working practices. All she did was withdraw the huge unsustainable state subsidies propping up uncompetitive businesses. In other words she just stopped delaying the inevitable.

The NHS? Actually during her time funding increased year on year. The arguments against were basically along the lines of "its not enough". Well wind on to New Labour's reign and despite a MASSIVE increase in real terms of expenditure, little has changed. What happened was they all gave themselves payrises and wasted billions on new IT equipment and a project which noone wanted. What Thatcher realised is that simply giving more money was not the answer. So much of her reforms revolved around making the NHS into smaller units and more competitive. Traits which have served the rest of the economy well.

She was the best prime minister of our time and many of her lessons have been adopted to the point now where there's little difference between the Tories & Labour. The only differences nowadays are on presentation. The last 13 years of New Labour did not reverse any of the trade union laws, nor did they revitalise the manufacturing sector. In many ways they carried on with her legacy. The only thing Labour completely failed to do was to live within our means.

If you want to go and live in a socialist utopia, then feel free to emigrate to the likes of Cuba and North Korea. The last remaining true socialist countries. Even the socialist giants like Russia & China have seen the light. Whilst capitalism isn't fantastic, its a lot better than the alternatives.

She destroyed what we always thought of as "society". She sancioned the selling off of property which was in public ie OUR hands, such as water, energy etc. She also sancioned the selling of social housing cheaply and did not replace it, thus destroying the notion of the "respectable" working class and leaving the underclass to fester in sink estates no one wants to buy. And everyone knows that the Falklands War was a publicity stunt invented by Thatcher to rekindle interest in her flagging career-started by sinking an "enemy" ship in its own territory. And we want to honour this harridan with a state funeral!

'I always wonder about those who claim they're going to dance on her grave'

You should listen to phone-in talk shows about Thatcher. You would be shocked by how many progressives ring up baying for blood and talking about dancing on her grave. It gives a fascinating, if sickening, insight into the progressive mind. You never, ever hear any conservatives saying similar things about any left wing leader such as Michael Foot or anyone else.

agree smallwhitecat, that the media does play them up as quasi-saints. Norman Tebbitt will never receive the same media treatment.

The Falkland Islands belonged to Argentina, Thatcher had no right sticking her jumped up evil nose in, but true to British style in taking over the world, she did, and it won her the general election in 1992.

This is because no Labour leader ever brought in policies to deliberately creat not only millions of unemployed, but also deprivation throughout this country.

The way government's have treated it's own people since the 80's, we deserve to be treated like the scum of the world.

OP posts:
mycounty · 27/12/2010 23:09

Ivanhoe. Are you saying that the people of this country deserved to be treated like the 'scum of the world?'
Hardly.

We as a people have not been able to stop what governments have done to us.

The British are a great people, who have been let down very badly by various governments. I feel the British people, should be much more involved in politics and they are not.
This country has changed irreparably, many have emigrated 475.000 last year, this does not make us 'scum' far from it. We have been treated very poorly and we are pissing off in our thousands! For a better life.Sad

Niceguy2 · 28/12/2010 08:58

Mycounty, I wouldn't worry about Ivanhoe. He/she obviously is a fully paid up member of socialist worker, despite claiming to be a tory.

ivanhoe · 20/01/2011 22:28

The British today have no backbone, we put up with everything.

Unless of course things effect us personally.
