Thatcher, the worst Prime Minister Britain ever had.

Thatcher wrecked British manufacturing industry and devastated whole areas of Britain by her obsession with high interest rates.

Under her rule crime rates soared. The Health Service was wrecked. Before she came to power it was the best in the world. After 11 years of her rule it was the worst in the developed world.

Britain's mental hospitals were closed and their inhabitants dumped on to the streets of our cities to be a menace both to themselves and to the general public.

All forms of physical punishment were banned in schools, thus wrecking the education system for ordinary people.

Thatcher crucified the Health Service and was responsible for a number of equally wretchedly mean actions, such as abolishing the Wages Councils and making various cuts in welfare benefits. And breaking the State pensions link with national average wages

Margaret Thatcher also ruined the Social structure of this country by stopping the building of Social housing during her Premiership.

"Dance on her grave" personally I would piss on it if I had the chance, she should be buried head down in salted earth in an unmarked grave even better if she was still alive when it was done.

I hope we have a bank holiday when she dies, those that want can can mourn her and the rest of us can:

PARTY PARTY PARTY.

HalleLouja · 21/01/2011 09:49

Actually at least Maggie Thatcher never lied about who she was unlike the slime we have in the moment. Not that I won't be dancing on her grave when the time comes. Well might join on pissing on her grave.

I read Andrew Marr's History of Modern Britain and he seemed to respect her. Apparently he is really left wing too Hmm

Deciduousblonde · 21/01/2011 12:09

I lived through the Labour government before Thatcher.

It was wonderful..everyone was working, industry was booming, no crime on the streets, everyone had enough money to live on..etc etc etc.

No. Not really. I can't back that up. It was SHIT!

Deciduousblonde · 21/01/2011 12:16

Her record speaks for itself though. She inherited an economy that had needed an IMF bailout with an inflation rate of 12%. Many of the industries were nationalised and wholly inefficient. She got a grip on inflation and put an end to the wasteful industries whilst destroying the unions whos actions had hurt the country for so long

Indeed.

She inherited a crappy economy & made it good. Blair inherited a good economy & spent it all..then borrowed more.

Cameron has to do the same as Thatcher did with what he has left. Only it will take years, not months.

ivanhoe · 22/01/2011 11:53

Thatcher created a so-called good conomy by the deliberate creation of a massive rich and poor devide including creating well over 3 million unemployed, the very same as Thatcherite Cameron is achieving now.

Thatcher turned Britain into a "get rich quick" "grab it all" now nation.

In short Thatcher turned Britain into a despot immoral nation, void of commpassion, and I doubbt we will ever recover thanks to Blair and Brown wasting 13 years keeping her legacy going.

It certainly does. ( Garbage )

///////I lived through the Labour government before Thatcher.///////

I also lived through Labour and left of centre Conservative Government's before Thatcher's right wing greed and selfishness took over in 1979.

I left school aged 15 in the 60's, and was never ever unemployed, or faced with the threat of unemployment via decent Conservative and Labour Governmnent's.

Anybody who kisses Thatcher's feet needs a brain transplant. And I mean that.

Lord North, anyone? Grin

huddspur · 22/01/2011 12:11

I'm not really old enough to remember Thatcher but its indisputable that the country couldn't carry on as it was in the 1970s. The economy had needed support from the IMF had very high inflation and was still made up of nationalised primary industries, that sort of economy struggled then, in the modern globalised world it would be dead.

ajandjjmum · 22/01/2011 12:15

For those who think that we are not sufficiently interested in politics as a nation, read through some of the nastiness and personal insults on this thread, and it might just explain why.

If some of these posters are representative of 'political' people, no wonder the sane amongst us steer clear.

UnquietDad · 22/01/2011 12:22

Political tribalism always goes the same way. I was no fan of Mrs Thatcher, but when he dies I intend to steer clear of the internet for a few days - as I just know that on here, on Facebook and elsewhere there will be otherwise good people stooping to a level of vituperative spite and childishness which is really quite breathtaking.

I always find the Left has more genuine hatred for the Right than the Right does for the Left.

UnquietDad · 22/01/2011 12:23

lol at "he" - no Freudian slip, just a typo!!

The country had high inflation, and the reason for this was that people were in real jobs.

Thatcher didnt want people working, so she massivelly reduced the work force via policies to create mass unemployment ie privatisation , and inward compertition running down wages ect.

Yes we had the winter of discontent, strikes ect.

But arent working people in Britain allowed to strike for better pay and conditions.

The big problem with Britain has always been that the people dont stand togther. The working man and woman are there own worse enemy.

Thatcher didn't want people working?

Now that's a policy I didn't think anyone would be elected on.

ivanhoe · 22/01/2011 15:53

It is a political fact that "the right wing" dont want people working, they want people on benefits where they cxanb be controlled.

This is called a right wing fascist dictatership.

"All forms of physical punishment were banned in schools, thus wrecking the education system for ordinary people."

Well, fuck me, Thatcher actually did some good!

UnquietDad · 22/01/2011 16:35

I fail to see why any party would "want" a large number of people on benefits, draining the resources of the country - and being a burden on the middle-class taxpayers who might be expected to be a centre-right party's natural supporters.

ajandjjmum · 22/01/2011 16:43

And from where did you obtain this 'political fact' ivanhoe?

ivanhoe · 22/01/2011 17:11

ajandjjmum Sat Obviously you didnt know then.

Niceguy2 · 22/01/2011 22:47

Ivanhoe has lost the plot and is even getting his left & right mixed up.

Kewcumber · 22/01/2011 23:24

Lord North is surely in the running for the worst prime minister ever. Or are you only prepared to consider ones you remember op? Hmm

He was the first ever prime minister to be forced out afetr a vote of no confidence following disasterous rout at Yorkdown leading to the loss of the colony.

Kewcumber · 22/01/2011 23:30

though his predecessor Earl of Grafton is pretty widely agreed to have been rather rubbish and corrupt so surely he must be in th erunning?

lifeinlimbo · 22/01/2011 23:34

UQD - a party would want a large number of people unemployed as this would increase competition for jobs and therefore lower wages - desperate people working for peanuts, and fat profits for people at the top to get rich.
Hence the tories voting against minimum wage.

QuickLookBusy · 22/01/2011 23:47

I'm no fan of Thatcher, but I'd rather her than that liar Blair. He allowed Brown free reign at the treasury, thus letting the bankers almost bankcrupt this country.

But it is Blair's total belief in his own bull shit [God given don't forget- according to his book] which meant he took Britain to an illegal war, killing hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis and British soliders. The UN disagreed with him, the rest of Europe disagreed with him, millions of people in the UK disagreed with him. But of course Blair just knew it was the right thing to do.

His smug face makes me feel sick.
