Putin pressing the button would be the end for mankind and existence for everyone - it’s definitely wouldn’t be a temporary set back. What do you think would be left after a nuclear war?

Not much for quite some time, I agree, but the planet would recover without us eventually.

"If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us." (1 John 1:8-10).

I haven’t done anything wrong and not lying so nothing to confess😆

Well, I've listened to death metal and had some premarital sex (which I do not regret for a moment) so I'm doomed to Hell if your god is really going to be that petty.

They aren’t sins - just normal everyday life. Sins are only when you do something wrong.

I'm not sure either of you have been listening at the back of the class @pointythings and @Parker231

@VincitVeritas1 - you have confused doing something wrong = bad (aka a sin if you want to use that type of language) and normal everyday life = good

pointythings · 28/02/2024 20:07

We absolutely have, we just happen to think the concept of sin is bullshit. You either do something that is objectively wrong, or you don't. Premarital sex between two consenting adults who have no other commitments is not wrong - unless you believe a petty deity says it is.

Kdtym10 · 28/02/2024 20:15

Mustardseed86 · 28/02/2024 08:04

Where do you see this in Jesus' words? He never suggested this in relation to the Roman centurion or the Syrophoenician woman.

I see it implied

Kdtym10 · 28/02/2024 20:15

Bluegetaniums · 28/02/2024 08:32

Well it exists outside time and space.

Do you honestly believe this to be true??

Why not?

So you think normal everyday day activities are a sin?

Where do you want to go with this argument? We're back to the question of what truth is.

@Kdtym10

It’s really not very complicated. MATTHEW 5:17
“Think not that I am come to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.

Are you interpreting this singular verse to mean Christians should be keeping the Law of Moses?

Lol. Your views are not mainstream, they’re evangelical. I have never come across any priest or vicar (and I’ve come across a lot) with your views.

Maybe you're asking the wrong people! Evangelical can be mainstream too. The C of E church I attend describes itself (if that's the right phrase) as evangelical.

I don't think you're understanding my meaning re Nero and I'm not sure how else to explain it, so I would appreciate it if we could drop the subject now.

Look, I know you really want the Nero thing to disappear but it’s not as it’s a fundamental point. I understand what you are saying, you are saying that Nero didn’t do some of the things in Revelation during his lifetime therefore it cannot be him. What I’m saying is, at the time John wrote Revelation it was expected Nero would come back and John said then the things listed in Revelation would happen. It is a common trope in myth that the main players will come back.

No I’m not saying that, I’m saying followers of Jesus should be Jews. They are Gods chosen people after all.

All sorts of weird shit is believed in CofE congregations- fundamentalist evangelicals to someone who goes along for tea and biscuits

But it's not what I think that counts - God defines sin.

Thanks for clarifying. Who was expecting Nero to return? What makes you think John believed that?

No I’m not saying that, I’m saying followers of Jesus should be Jews. They are Gods chosen people after all.

But that equates to the same thing, surely?

It is a broad church, to be sure.

It’s was a widely held belief at that time in the Roman Empire.

No chance as I don't believe in a Christian god - which seems to be the kicker! I am an agnostic.

My DH and DS are Catholics so they should be ok - maybe they could put in a good word for me?!

I’m a card carrying atheist and haven’t been convinced that adopting any religion would make my life any better- life is good as it is so why would I want to make any changes?

Does God know about death metal, and is his opinion on it somewhere in the Bible? Confused

Kdtym10 · 28/02/2024 23:10

@pointythings yep it’s there in Barzabel 7:77

”woa to those of black and white painted faces, whose death growl shakes the core of thy bosom. Upon those who call the name of the bringer of light unto the pit which mosheth will rain down guitar picks and drum sticks for 40 days and 40 nights” Don’t know why you’re questioning it really!

Like the crystals, music is not inherently bad. I used death metal as an example because of its aggressive, antisocial and often anti-Christian lyrics and dark, morbid themes. Like choosing to get a tattoo, this is more personal preference, rather than something which may affect Salvation.
