MaryBS · 07/06/2007 02:40

BCP = Book of Common Prayer - it dates from 1662 and is in old English, with thees and thous. And I was being lazy typing congo, instead of congregation . Apologies for using confusing you .

PandaG · 07/06/2007 08:17

I am still getting over the Haven't been shopping for myself in so long ..........

CaptainCaveman · 07/06/2007 11:06

Aww CD thats fab, EllieK CAT'd me to ask if you would be offended - I said you'd see it as God providing for you...so enjoy your spending you lucky thing!!

DH being interviewed at present (fingers crossed emoticon)

I am at work (allegedly!)

WOW fabbo news. Talking to dh last night about trying for another baby after Florida next may, I was going to ask him if he minded me coming off the pill now to give me better chance of conceiving next year.
You remember the response I had off him when I aksed him about no.2 a few weeks ago? Flat out 'No' to a 'maybe' to 'ok then but next year'. Well, when I brought it up last night he really surprised me by saying he had given it a lot of thought and deffo does want another one.
So I said was it definate we have to go to Florida next year as it will always be there and ds will only be 4 so won't remember it. Hmm, yes he says, thats true.

So, he's agreed to think about it (after his interview today) - so we might be able to start TTC soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for all your prayers and please continue to pray for us that we can agree when to add to our lovely little family

Notquitegrownup · 07/06/2007 11:11

Good morning all!

Mary I really love the BCP! Then again I love Shakespeare and the KJV Bible...I'm just an old fogey really!

Hi CD! Oooh please start a Style thread and show us what you are going to buy in Monsoon! What an amazing act of generosity on the part of your Antenatal thread friends. Pray for lots of blessings upon them! I get really excited about clothes (esp. when it's someone else's money!!!)

Hi Suzy! Well I had visions of the choir doing the conga round the church too! (Hey, it could be fun...!) Hope you had a nice bath with the choc and booze...sounds very good to me!

Hi FA - praying for your shoulder. I heard that muscles are more easily hurt just after you've given birth, due to the Relaxin that is released during labour...and it stays around longer if you are breastfeding - so look after yourself!

Well we are all fine. I have got my last session of hospital chaplaincy visitor training this afternoon so after today I'll be shadowing someone for a few weeks and then I'll be let loose on a ward! We are going to have a service to pray for all of us who have done the course, and I have been sorting out the music for it this morning (I lead worship and play the guitar) - I have chosen 'I the Lord of Sea and Sky', 'Brother let me be your servant', and 'Make me a channel of your peace'. What do you think?

I loved the words to 'Brother let me be your servant' so much that I want to share some of them with you.

Here we go...

Brother let me be your servant
Let me be as Christ to you.
Pray that I may have the grace
to let you be my servant too.

We are pilgrims on a journey,
We are brothers on the road;
We are here to help each other
Walk the mile and bear the load.

I will hold the Christ-light for you
In the night-time of your fear;
I will hold my hand out to you
Speak the peace you long to hear.

Aren't those powerful words, and particularly appropriate for a hospital chaplain? I was so struck by the simplicity and truth there.

Well have a good day all! God bless xxx

DutchOma · 07/06/2007 11:29

Wonderful songs, all of them, Rosey. Real music too, not repetitive chorusseylike (not a word I'd get through the spellchecker but hey). Best of luck with your last part of the course and I'm sure you'll make a lovely visitor.

CaptainDippySuperBoobs · 07/06/2007 11:37

Rosey - you fogey!!!!!! LOVED the choice of songs .... the words of that song are powerful .... Praying it all goes hunky dory ....

1 handed typing here, boobie monster plugged in......

nqgu - yes please to b&bs, am going to try my best to make it!

ZipadiSuzy · 07/06/2007 12:19

Well DH's last day tomorrow, am getting very nervous now!

His gardening uniform (well sort of) arrived this morning, 'smartest gardener in town' he's bought his equipment, phone calls coming through, can't keep up with new business already. 'HELP'

CaptainCaveman · 07/06/2007 12:24

wow Sooz, praise God. That is quick work for your dh's business!!
Praying that it will be totally successful and not too stressful.

FA, hows your shoulder? Praying that the pain eases off v soon.

notsofarnow · 07/06/2007 12:39

Afternoon all. Not a lot to say really but reading and praying. But as i type it satan is telling me not to post that I am praying bec I'm not really doint it right. grrrrrr get away evil one NOW.

Have had a very busy morning, nursery drop off, asthma clinic with ds, play group drop off, dd1 to hosp app 20 miles away and back in time for nursery finish at 11.30. Can't quite decide what to do this aft,need to go pick up ds inhalers, need to drop off friends pushchair and buy some passatta. So I guess that afternoon catered for really.

PandaG · 07/06/2007 12:43

NSFN - is there any 'right' way to pray? You know there is not - so I echo your prayer, Lord, send the evil one away and do not let him affect NSFN.

Praying that you find time for God in your business!

ZipadiSuzy · 07/06/2007 15:12

Thanks CC - yes it is rather quick, but we have to get established and its the right time of year, so no sitting around wondering about things, got to just get on and do it! thats the stiff upper lip in me, but deep down I'm worried sick! I'm sure if we work hard it will be succesful, and my DH is like a kid with a new toy/s, he is sooooo excited, I think he has been stuck in a dead end job for 35 years, he has now got the chance to be proud of what he is doing!

Sorry I got carried away then but thank you, yes praise the good lord!

MaryBS · 07/06/2007 15:31

NSFN - pray unceasingly, that is what Paul tells us. I offer everything up to God, even all the selfish things which we tell ourselves we shouldn't ask for. I don't blame him if I don't get them, but he is our Father and its right we go to him with everything. And like any loving parent, do we we think long and hard about the words we use before we speak to our parents??? No of course not. Don't listen to that voice telling you not to pray, it is NOT of God!

RL - I love "Brother Sister" too - can't stop singing it! Love it! I love the other hymns you picked. I love Shakespeare too. I'm a bit of a traddie too, but the tradition I was brought up with is different, so my traddie things are different. I'm really excited about going to Ely Cathedral tonight, for "Solemn Eucharist", followed by Benediction. THATS the sort of tradition I like! And things like the Lord's Prayer and the Creed in Latin. Of course, like the BCP and KJV, not as relevant to today's new Christian as say, Common Worship and NIV/NRSV. But we can't help loving it! Bit short notice - but d'you fancy coming to Ely tonight? 7:30pm

Sooz - praying for your new business venture. Its GREAT to hear you so excited, I love enthusiasm! Praise God!

FA - praying for your shoulder, how is it?

NQGU - Thank you SO much for sending EDWJ - it looks great, lots of stuff about the Holy Spirit. Fantastic!

Roseylea · 07/06/2007 18:00

Oh Mary I so would - but dh is working late (grr....) so I'm on bath and bedtime duty...

Please do invite me again though!

Roseylea · 07/06/2007 18:04

BTW is there a version you know called "Brother sister" which has the same words? If so I'd much prefer to use that in the service (much more inclusive!)

MaryBS · 07/06/2007 18:39

Aw RL, that's a shame. The version I know is similar - has a few more verses:

Brother, sister, let me serve you,
let me be as Christ to you.
Pray that I may have the grace
to let you be my servant, too.

We are pilgrims on a journey,
and companions on the road;
we are here to help each other
walk the mile and bear the load.

I will hold the Christ-light for you
in the night-time of your fear;
I will hold my hand out to you,
speak the peace you long to hear.

I will weep when you are weeping;
when you laugh I'll laugh with you.
I will share your joy and sorrow
'til we've seen this journey through.

When we sing to God in heaven
we shall find such harmony,
born of all we've known together
of Christ's love and agony.

Won't you let me be your servant,
let me be as Christ to you?
Pray that I may have the grace to
let you be my servant, too.

HTH. Its beautiful isn't it?

CaptainCaveman · 07/06/2007 18:45

Dh got the job! Praise God and yippee!!! Means a bit more travelling for him but thats ok
