The Conservatives have such a massive opportunity here. I really hope they've got the sense to grab it with both hands.

https://x.com/kemibadenoch?lang=en-GB :

“Labour’s “Digital ID” gimmick won’t stop the boats. It’s a desperate distraction from their scandals. We won’t back any system that makes ID mandatory for British citizens. Only Conservatives have a real plan to secure our borders.

It turns out this Digital ID announcement is an idea from Labour Together, the very organisation embroiled in the latest Downing Street sleaze scandal involving the PM's own Chief of Staff.

Conservatives will oppose any push by this organisation or the government to impose mandatory ID cards on law abiding citizens.

There are arguments for and against digital ID eg many people already use digital identity for banking and online services. We’re certainly not opposed to that. But mandating ID is a different matter altogether. We will not support any system that is mandatory for British people or excludes those of us who choose not to use it from any of the rights of our citizenship.”

You are correct, it won’t stop the boats. Many destroy their documents before they reach here so nobody knows who they are to be able to issue them with digital ID anyway. Plus aren’t they issued with ‘new’ documents once they are here anyway? So why would a digital ID card stop them?

Nobody bothers to check documents if they intentionally employ illegal immigrants anyway so the whole thing is pointless.

Plus according to Sky news , Keir Starmer has said that although people will need to have digital ID, they won’t need to show it to anyone so again what’s the point in having it in the first place? Makes you wonder why they want us to have it if we don’t need to show it to anyone.

Just a whole load of manipulation by the government. many can see through Keir Starmer and his manipulation tactics. However, a lot can’t.

Yes there’s a lot of support on mn. You’re right though.

It’s just pure manipulation by the government. And I do believe it’s being rolled out as a form of control. We don’t need them, they won’t be effective in tackling what the government claim it will tackle.

TWT199 · 27/09/2025 09:27

I strongly support the implementation of such systems. Even developing nations like India and the Philippines have adopted similar measures to prevent resource depletion. As a developed country, the UK should certainly have these systems in place. It is regrettable that we have not established them until now.

They haven’t got Labour governing their country and Keir Starmer as a PM. I wouldn’t trust this government as far as I could throw them with my data, especially after all the rest of their lies they’ve spun

TWT199 · 27/09/2025 09:57

I do agree with you, but the leaders of those countries are quite different! I'm not a huge fan of Keir Starmer, but I can see some progressive aspects in his approach. Even if he’s using these moves as a distraction, there are still some policies being put into action that could have a positive impact even if its just a little , it still helps !

If you believe that you’ll believe anything. Keir Starmer is very manipulative and lies. He’s only interested how he’s seen on the world stage rather than what’s right for this country. I’m not sure how anyone can believe such a stoic, wooden man who obviously lies and lies and lies. Not only that, he seems to be following Tony Blair’s advice about needing digital ID. I remember him bleating many years ago about WMD… it was all lies. Just corrupt and manipulative and controlling and you trust this government with your data?

TWT199 · 27/09/2025 10:11

At the moment all the political parties in here are like rotten apples. We have no choice !

TWT199 · 27/09/2025 10:12

Yes I agree he is manipulative

Tryingtokeepgoing · 27/09/2025 10:13

Starmer is an authoritarian leader of an inherently authoritarian government that thinks the public should do what the government wants. He doesn’t like being challenged, questioned or held to account and is a weak leader who believes that his position as PM gives him authority. It doesn’t. He’s a laughing stock - much like Trump. He doesn’t understand, or even agree, that the government works for the people

The digital ID card is a sop to those ex Labour voters that now support Farrage to demonstrate how tough he and his government are on illegal migration, but as usual, he’s misjudged things. Most of those voters are anti ID card anyway, and at a practical level the digital ID card will have no impact on illegal migration, which he asserts is because it’s easy to get a job when you get here, I’m not sure that true, but even if it was all employers are required to check that potential employees have the right to work already. Those flouting that requirement today will simply add the digital ID card to the list of documents they don’t bother checking 😂

Flyingintotheunknown · 27/09/2025 10:16

TWT199 · 27/09/2025 10:12

So you see where he’s going with it then. It’s definitely not because it’s in our best interests. He’s nothing short of a narcissist and narcissists like control. There’s no other reason for these digital IDs. We already have NI numbers and passports/ driving licenses. It isn’t going to stop the boats nor is it going to stop illegal working. He’s just being manipulative.

TWT199 · 27/09/2025 10:17

We have least choice , all political parties are rotten apples ! So difficult

Exactly. And this is what I’ve been saying. He’s just trying to manipulate people. He wants control. He doesn’t give a shit about people in this country.

Its easy for an illegal worker to get a job here anyway as those who employ them turn a blind eye/ do not check ID so introducing digital ID will make no difference.

He’s also very much in denial about how shit his government is. He’s just dismissing people’s concerns and overriding them. Typical narcissist.
