I suppose the numbers signing at least shows the government how many halfwits there are in the country. Not a question that could be reasonably asked on the census!

Halfwits? Why? Because they don’t agree with something they never voted for? It’s people like you who are the reason why reform are so popular. Calling people names such as half wits because they dare to have an opinion different to yours. Nobody asked for these digital ID cards. They certainly were not in the labour manifesto and nobody voted for them. Not sure how you have the cheek to call ordinary members of the public half wits based on your own opinion

Nothing to hide here

Neither have I. Why do I need a card to prove it. Why am I assumed to be guilty until I can prove my innocence. It's not the way we work here. Europe tends to adopt the the Napoleonic Code: everything is banned unless specifically allowed by law. We have Common Law: everything is allowed unless specifically banned.
I want my freedom preserved.

mxd · 26/09/2025 10:48

Someone explain the problem? Don't they have these in the veritable utopia that is Europe?

You and others with nothing to hide will use it, that’s most of us although not all are as keen on it. People who dodge legality will keep doing that.

What a standard post. They’ll probably take notice of their woeful MRP today.

I’ve already signed.

as I’ve said on another thread I’m happy to conscientiously object to this. If I go to jail I go to jail.

my great grandfather came out of nazi germany in 1937/8.

his parents stayed and him and his brother were got out.

The nazis used state records to decide who went to the concentration camps. The fear runs too deep in me from my granny and what she told me. It’s a no from me.

As I said in a previous post, not everyone has or needs a passport or driving licence. Not everyone travels abroad or drives. Some people who have just can't think beyond the fact that they have those for some reason.

There is no legal requirement to have these documents but ID (especially photo ID) can be legally required at times. For things like voting etc. Certain purchases. Actually applying for credit, mortgages, property purchases or things like passports. Other things such as if required by police. What are people who don't have a passport or driving licence supposed to do?

That's why we should be required to have ID cards.

I don’t possess any current photo ID, I vote via post & do not need it for voting. I do not want or need an ID card, it would be something else to lose or have stolen.
Once stolen, I expect it’d be my fault for having it nicked!

NorfolkandBad · 26/09/2025 11:46

The Party told you to get a digital ID. It was their final, most essential command.

It’s a digital card

I bet they model this on China's social credit system. So criticise government policy on Mumsnet and loose access to your bank account. Oh joy!

That can do that now if tax underpaid or on benefits

They’ve already got all your personal data

The government in this country already have all our personal data - Passport Office, DVLA, DWP, HMRC etc etc etc.....

tanstaafl · 26/09/2025 09:49

the online safety act will incorporate the digital id.
you’ll then be required to sign in to social media using your digital ID.
dissent of any form can be recorded by the government.

it’s a socialist dream state.

sadly I don’t think the conservatives, greens, or Lib Dem’s will reject this idea.
wonder if Reform will.

The Stasi would have loved this.

Agreed I don’t understand the hysteria, I think identifying for jobs and votes stops fraud

Rider kits are the bags and clothing that Deliveroo riders wear when carrying out orders, but residents of one London street are receiving them at random. They are addressed to people that don't live at these addresses or any address nearby. So, why are these kits being delivered and how are potential Deliveroo riders signing up with addresses they don’t live at?”

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002jsc6

they we’re using fake ID to generate the kits and then a car was collecting them

You and Yours - Deliveroo Kits, Seventy Years Of TV Adverts, Wimbledon Ticket Scams - BBC Sounds

Why are residents on a London street receiving Deliveroo rider kits to their addresses?

gerispringer · 26/09/2025 12:55

if You lived in France, Spain or Italy you’d have ID cards. There’s no evidence that people in those countries are controlled by the government any more than we are here. There’s already is loads of data on you every where, council tax, bank details, contactless cards, driving licence, passports, nhs records , national insurance, tax, benefits etc etc Those scared that they will be rounded up into concentration camps because of this are maybe overthinking things. Unless you are completely off grid then there won’t be any new information - it just brings info already out there into one place and it won’t be all of it anyway.

gerispringer · 26/09/2025 12:56

If you don’t want one you won’t be jailed because of it.you just won’t be able to be employed, rent, buy a house etc etc. if you are happy with that great.

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 26/09/2025 12:58

Signed. As also has my husband. It's got close to a million signatures already but they'll force it through anyway.

How’s that going to work under the terms of CTA and GFA?

What are you trying to hide?

This is such a stupid statement. The government already have all our details, they using the Immigration problem that we now have , that they have set up to be a problem to bring in the ID cards …..next will be a cashless society … Do you really trust the government after what a mess they made of Covid?

montston · 26/09/2025 13:12

Has anyone given a reasonable explanation as to why this is a problem yet or are we just all jumping on the ‘because data’ bandwagon?
