What restrictions do they want removing?

Yes. Because all will be back in September without any meaningful restrictions. The ship for this academic year has sailed, and the one for next year is being planned for already. What could the petition possibly acheive?

Back to normal can’t happen because of a fucking pandemic. Normal isn’t happening anywhere, so why the hell should it only happen in schools? I know schools have to open but there will be restrictions such as staggered start and finish times and distancing of staff from pupils. ‘Us for them’ could also be interpreted as ‘Teachers for pupils’ in some people’s eyes as they clearly feel schools should just go back to as they were before and who cares if school staff catch it.

Presumably a group of mums with no shielding or vulnerable household members.

You’re kidding right? I’m all for kids getting back to school ASAP but no way can it be as normal yet.

I'm in Leicester, how will this petition help in situations where local lockdowns require school closures?

10 days ago being 2 weeks after schools reopened to a wider group, which amazingly coincides with the 14 day incubation period of this virus.

The words selfish, irresponsible and ignorant come to mind. But I have vulnerable family members, one of whom is likely to die if they get the virus, so my view is perhaps a little skewed.

There can be no normal at the current time, only well-considered adaptations.

Why should schools be the only things open ‘as normal’? Shops are open but with social distancing measures. Same will happen with pubs. Hairdressers will have PPE for themselves and clients.

Well I think if you’re calling for the removal of social distancing from schools it should be removed everywhere. Either it is important or it’s not important in controlling the spread of the virus. You can’t have it both ways.

Yes you are being very unreasonable. Teachers and staff deserve to be kept safe, as do the children.
Pop those sharp elbows back in and get in line with everyone else.

Everyone is hoping schools will be open to all children in September if we stay on the right path.
Given the outbreaks and closures of schools in Leicester they absolutely shouldn’t be opening as normal. We need to ensure they open safely enough so that they can stay open and our children can remain in school.

No restrictions means no extra hand washing and cleaning? Considering that winter term means more bugs I think it's very sensible to have those anyway.

If they agree that all kids wear masks then go for it.

Otherwise, no thanks.

It is so short sighted. Haven’t they worked out yet that all in school pushes up the R rate and will increase the likelihood of local lockdowns.

And your employer won’t be obliged to give you paid leave or any leave at all to look after your kids because the government have made it clear we should all be back to work.

All in with no masks or social distancing= rolling local lockdowns with no childcare or furlough pay.

Who benefits?

@netflixismysidehustle it feels like September in my school at the moment. Fast pace and jam packed curriculum. I do feel for the children but in school at the moment. We would have welcomed back all years on part time rotas if we didn’t have to apply the DfE guidance.
