AIBU to share with you UsforThem. It is a group of mums who are campaigning to send children back to school as normal with no restrictions. They can be found on FB and Twitter #UsforThem. There is also a link to sign the petition on FB

I think petitioning schools to remove restrictions when we don't know what the restrictions will be seems a bit odd. Both of my children's schools have said they are planning as best they can to provide the safest approach for pupils and staff but (and they have really emphasised this point) they don't know what the virus will be doing in September, or what the government will be advising so things may be different by then. Surely it would be better to see the situation in the approach to the next school year and then decided?

AIMD · 30/06/2020 21:22

All kids are supposed to be back in September, so I am assuming that the majority of the restriction in school at the moment will have to be gone to allow all children back anyway!!

What are they arguing against? No one knows what the situation will be in September yet/

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 30/06/2020 21:33

OP I should have warned you. Mumsnet is mainly full of people enjoying lockdown and wanting everyone to stay in forever cos, well , covid.

Share it on an antidementor thread. Much more sensible people.

These guys will ignore all the countries which have reopened schools full time with no sd and no spikes in infections. They will also ignore the increasing science that says there is little risk to children or teachers and it appears many of us have immunity without developing antibodies (hence it looks like so few of us have been infected). I won't bother posting the links to peer reviewed science as these guys won't read it or will make up an excuse to ignore it.

But well done for trying OP.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 30/06/2020 21:35

Oh and all of you crying that children are back full time in sept. Nope. Thanks for ignoring Wales. Looking like blended learning with just a few days per child per month in sept. Total rubbish.

Head over to #ThemforUsCymru ;-)

Not sure there is much joined up thinking going into this one, I won't be signing

Barbie222 · 30/06/2020 21:51

the increasing science that says there is little risk to children or teachers

Maybe it's, you know, the other people in society? Why not let Boris know, he's just closed Leicester by mistake

Your lack of hysteria, rational thought and and ability to read beyond msm would really help the guys in ThemforUsCymru - they haven’t long started up and would welcome the help

We do know the restrictions; they have been leaked.

Which countries have opened schools full time with no SD?

Anticipates lack of engagement so provides no evidence for their assertions and you think that's commendable. OP?

formerbabe · 30/06/2020 22:11

I'm with you op.... children are not really at risk. Anyone with some sort of functioning intellect can see that looking at the statistics. Number of deaths of people under 40 is really a tiny proportion of all deaths. Vulnerable people should shield and everyone else should just get on with their lives.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 30/06/2020 22:12

Been a member of U4TCymru for a while don't worry 😁

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 30/06/2020 22:13

Frankly can't be arsed posting the evidence cos it's everywhere. I'm too busy emailing people who might actually be able to do something about it with the science links. With working a 50 hr week from home plus emergency schooling 2 kids, not got much time left.

Italiandreams · 30/06/2020 22:16

The government want everyone back in September full time and are realising guideline this week . What restrictions are you wanting taken away?

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 30/06/2020 22:18

And which schools are back ft with no sd: (btw all schools have some things different. I very much support proper hand washing and cleaning of schools and staying home if I'll. but sd is not good for children and the impact on their mental health is frightening)

Switzerland
Sweden (never closed)
Iceland (never closed)
France
Belgium
Netherlands
Australia
Most of mainland China (with masks)
Poland
Germany I believe soon if not now.

I fully support no penalties if you choose to keep your child at home but don't expect state help if that means you can't return to work after furlough

Boxachocs · 30/06/2020 22:32

I think there’s a difference between back to school as it was before and back to school with measures to protect school staff (seeing how some people just keep saying that children aren’t at risk). Do people not realise that it’s not just children in schools? I find it incredibly rude and selfish when people keep saying ‘But children aren’t at risk’. They can spread it. I acknowledge schools need to be open fully again but there must be an element of distancing between school staff and pupils and between different groups of children. There do need to be measures in place, which is what will happen in September. Some group set up by whining parents don’t make the decisions, fortunately.

Boxachocs · 30/06/2020 22:35

Plenty of those countries above do have measures in place. In Belgium the children to have socially distance from the staff and keep to class bubbles. Plus masks are in use. Same with most other countries. It cannot go back to how it was before.

AIMD · 30/06/2020 22:35

But surely, in areas where all kids have to be back in school in sept, there is no realistic hope of social distancing....in primary schools at least. There simply wouldn’t be the space or the staff to continue with bubbles. Unless they mean all children are in but am only a couple of days each. Not full time.

In all honesty shops etc seem as busy as before now so I imagine by September everywhere else will be so busy that people will be mingling everywhere regardless of what schools do.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 30/06/2020 22:48

In all honesty it's pointless. Soon as kids leave school they're meeting up.

And what happens when furlough stops and millions go back to work. If schools not fully open ten parents will set up informal childcare groups with each other. I have no parents and can't afford a nanny! I'm expected back in the office in sept. Exactly what do I do with my 8 yr old? Leave him home alone? Quit my job?

Seriously does anyone have a suggestion cos I'm out. I have no help and not a key worker.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 30/06/2020 22:49

Then not ten 🤦🏼‍♀️

ktp100 · 30/06/2020 22:51

I'm not saying this is going to happen, but if there is a second wave over the summer and deaths start shooting up again it will be best for ALL OF SOCIETY if we all stay at home for a period again and learn lessons about how fast we came out of lockdown before.

If things don't get worse the plan is to have all kids back in school as of September anyway.

Either way, our kid's educations are NOT more important than people's lives!!

flumposie · 30/06/2020 22:56

Nope. I'm a parent and teacher. I'm fed up of the cries to stop social distancing in schools. All that screams at me is that you don't give a shit about the staff. I care about the adults at my daughter's school and my colleagues, plus myself.
When it's safe to drop it everywhere then it's safe for schools.

Pipandmum · 30/06/2020 22:58

I'm not sure a petition will do much good - the government has already stated it intends for all kids to go back.

pennylane83 · 30/06/2020 23:18

Given the outbreaks and closures of schools in Leicester they absolutely shouldn’t be opening as normal. We need to ensure they open safely enough so that they can stay open and our children can remain in school.

Or maybe joe public should stop behaving like petulent children whining about invasion of privacy etc and just cooperate with the track and trace system given that this is the only way we will be able to prevent wider trasmission of isolated cases (such as in Leicester which I believe originated from a factory so the only reason school children have started displaying symptoms is because of irresponsible adults and not becuase they have all gone back to school!)
