Ding, ding, round 3 of the highly entertaining collection of misspellings, misuse and general bastardisation of language. The floor is youre’s x

I’ve just read that someone has scolded their hand. I bet it was given a good telling off.

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 16/03/2026 13:03

One from today - the case was outside of the statue of limitations. Statue of Liberty maybe.

HelenaWilson · 16/03/2026 13:07

'I balled my eyes out.' Seen too often, including on the BBC yesterday, though when I looked again later it had been corrected.

Allseeingallknowing · 16/03/2026 15:33

Seen on Mumsnet today “worth it for piece of mind”

Whosthetabbynow · 16/03/2026 15:35

@Allseeingallknowing Which piece I wonder x

CatrionaBalfour · 16/03/2026 15:46

On MN the most repeated errors would appear to be "ect" and "loose" (for lose).
One thread was quite derailed by the OP unwilling to acknowledge "treat draw" wasn't correct.

The piece that governs intelligence?

I saw a post saying you need to weight for an appointment at the surgery.

I suppose you do if you want weight loss injections!

AlbieJiggered · 16/03/2026 17:27

There for their happens a lot. 'I should/could have went' is another one.

SerendipityCat · 16/03/2026 17:43

One I’ve noticed quite a lot (alot?) is the use of “except” for “accept”, as in a recent thread, “I don’t think I could except that”. What, you couldn’t make an exception for it, perhaps? No, she meant accept, and she did it twice in an otherwise nicely-written post. It’s one to watch. If it ever gets to epidemic “loose” for “lose” levels, I fear my brain will boil in my skull.

CatrionaBalfour · 16/03/2026 20:02

Awful. I'm struggling to cope with "loose" as it is.

backslashruby · 16/03/2026 20:20

Someone on my local Nextdoor site was complaining about fly tipping. The people who do it are bone idol.

One from today: enfurtunitly

toastandegg · 16/03/2026 23:00

Oh and in my region his instead of he’s…. So…. His going to the shop

BrickBiscuit · 17/03/2026 12:03

No need to be so viscious, wind your neck in.

This popped up today. Very apt, I thought.

sesquipedalian · 18/03/2026 06:52

From this morning - “You went for a job you thought you were a shoe in for”.

CrocusesFlowering · 18/03/2026 07:09

A new one - rele rele

'Toe the line' is now almost always rendered 'tow the line', which obliterates the original image.

The mental image of the latter is much more pleasant though - someone trudging along following the task rather than a bare toe twanging a rope 😅. Viscous is one I actually give a pass to as a similar so unnoticed autocorrect. Much like defiantly instead of definitely.

Freysimo · 18/03/2026 07:27

"Gillettes" for sale on market stall. Not razor blades, gilets.

Confused can you give us the context, I’ve no idea what that’s supposed to be.
AlbieJiggered · 18/03/2026 09:40

@ErrolTheDragon , really really?

Speckly · 18/03/2026 10:23

Just seen someone say ‘Clutching my purse’ while putting their hands to their throat, rather than ‘clutching my pearls’ 🙄

CrocusesFlowering · 18/03/2026 11:23

@ErrolTheDragon
Really, really ..

Whosthetabbynow · 18/03/2026 11:53

Some brilliant new additions to the thread today (yes, I’m the poster formerly known as Catpiece). I was reading through some old texts at the weekend and came across one that was sent to me describing some colleagues as “manikins”.
