Thread 54 - Summer 25 - Graduations after Uni Year 3

Oblomov25 · 20/06/2025 17:15

This is a support thread for our young adults post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting, and their results ( or life updates for those who went into work or have had results earlier). It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, uni vs employment please don't within this thread.
Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue. We were previously on the secondary board and then further education, now we shall be here in 'Parents of Adult Children' gulp
Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed). Experience is that everyone is welcomed wherever, whatever their child is doing we have some in work, gap years , apprenticeships etc too. Lots of contributors with different experiences and always sympathy and advice to be had.

Thank you @Oblomov25 and also for the new thread!

OublietteBravo · 20/06/2025 17:39

Thanks for the new thread. I’m excited to hear how the new graduates get on with their first steps into the world of work or further studies. They’ve come so far since the uncertainty of cancelled GCSEs and predicted grades and school bubbles.

Aslockton · 20/06/2025 17:51

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn Congratulations to your DS.

Proud mum moment: DS finished 13th in the World Championship and won a team silver medal with Team GB.

The team got 2 individual silvers, 1 individual bronze and the team silver.

He is shattered!!

Oblomov25 · 20/06/2025 17:55

Goodness me @Aslockton, wow, what an achievement, congratulations he really is a medalist! 🥈

Thank you @Oblomov25!

Very well done to him @Aslockton, I hope he sleeps well tonight!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 20/06/2025 19:15

That’s fantastic @Aslockton you must be very proud of him, he should be proud of himself too.

mummyinbeds · 20/06/2025 19:23

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn well done to your DS. I'm super proud of him - I feel like I've been in the Nottingham law journey with the two of you.

I'm currently two thirds of the way through France to collect DS tomorrow. It's far too hot and forecast to be 39° 🥵. His room is in the second floor with no lift. And then we have a 13 hour drive home. But I can't wait to see him 😁

Piggywaspushed · 20/06/2025 19:27

Thanks oblomov. Congrats to Aslockton Jr!

socks1107 · 20/06/2025 20:26

I remember this thread starting - some may recall my daughter was put into a hold for days after a levels and went on to be rejected. She completed years level 4 in her subject and is now about to graduate next month as she did a two year accelerated degree. Her dissertation got a 1st!
so proud of her .
hope all your young people are good and all us parents hanging in there!

That is utterly amazing! OMG well done! We have actual medals! 🏅

Delphigirl · 20/06/2025 20:30

Oh @socks1107 that is also fantastic. Wow she must have worked incredibly hard to do all that on an accelerated timetable. Well done to her. Look at all these incredible lovely kids, whether achieving incredible things now or still to come. They must all have EXCELLENT mothers …. 👸

EwwSprouts · 20/06/2025 21:25

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn Huge congratulations to your DS.

@Aslockton A team GB silver medal! He must be over the moon and rightly so. What an achievement.

@socks1107 Super update. Congratulations to her on a first. And she persisted!

What a fantastic start to the new thread. Thanks @Oblomov25 Fingers crossed more young people reap rewards and jobs this summer.

Oblomov25 · 20/06/2025 23:00

Welcome back @socks1107
don't leave it so long to post again. What a welcoming thread this has always been. No matter whatever our struggles, few posters have been without any struggles at all!

Btw, ds1 (just finished year 3, awaiting accountancy exam results x 3, going into year 4) is on holiday with Dh in Portugal for a week, boys football re-union.

Ds2 (just finished GCSE's, and I video WhatsApp'ed them. At 7pm. Dh showed us around the apartment, pool. Ds1 was, having been out for lunchtime drinking, sound asleep in bed. Ds2 and I roared with laughter.

Fun times. 🤣

Thank you! Our shared trials and tribulations of Notts Law will not be forgotten, 😄 and I shall be cheering your DS through his final year too. I hope today is not too draining and you all get home safe and sound, regular ice cream and water stops are a must!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 21/06/2025 06:08

@socks1107 that is fantastic, well done to your DD!

@Oblomov25 love how your DH and DS are living it up on their boys holiday! 😄

I do remember that poster with the DD doing air crew, I am absolutely terrible with names though. I hope she’s doing well.

OublietteBravo · 21/06/2025 08:39

Congratulations to your DS @Aslockton - a silver medal is a brilliant achievement!

OublietteBravo · 21/06/2025 08:45

I do remember. Well done to her for persevering. A first in her dissertation is brilliant! I can totally understand why you’re really proud of her.
