Thread 54 - Summer 25 - Graduations after Uni Year 3

Oblomov25 · 20/06/2025 17:15

This is a support thread for our young adults post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting, and their results ( or life updates for those who went into work or have had results earlier). It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, uni vs employment please don't within this thread.
Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue. We were previously on the secondary board and then further education, now we shall be here in 'Parents of Adult Children' gulp
Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed). Experience is that everyone is welcomed wherever, whatever their child is doing we have some in work, gap years , apprenticeships etc too. Lots of contributors with different experiences and always sympathy and advice to be had.

My Dd loved loved loved sheff so I really hope he has a happy time there @Piggywaspushed

crazycrofter · 23/06/2025 17:09

Well done @ealingwestmum dd and @Piggywaspushed ds2! Fantastic results!

NCTDN · 23/06/2025 17:13

fantastic news @Piggywaspushed@ealingwestmum
@mummyinbedsdd had great hikes planned, but think it will be too hot for them. Might be more like a trip up on the cable car and a walk across the top to a lake!

NCTDN · 23/06/2025 17:14

@Delphigirl@Piggywaspushed DS has his heart set on Sheffield for September- I’m already feeling very nervous for results day!

Piggywaspushed · 23/06/2025 17:17

There was a post on WIWIKAU where someone sniffed a bit at Sheffield Open Day (messy kitchens in June!) and the pushback from other posters was really heartening. It gets a lot of love.

Fingers crossed @NCTDN

@Piggywaspushed people can be sniffy about anything. Sheff has over a decade had fantastic student satisfaction figures, always wins best student union, often wins best accommodation and has one of the highest numbers of grads staying in the city after graduation as they all love it so much. It has pockets of total excellence (engineering, architecture/landscape architecture, journalism to name a few, and lots of other very strong departments. And it doesn’t cost a fortune to live there. What’s not to love, frankly!

Delphigirl · 23/06/2025 17:35

I have to admit DDs kitchen was pretty gross. Better than DS’s Birmingham kitchen though…

craggyrat · 23/06/2025 18:06

Fantastic results! Well done everyone

Alwaysplayspicc · 23/06/2025 18:21

I hope no-one minds me posting on the thread after a long time AWOL.
You might remember I had breast cancer last year and DS was taking A levels while dealing with the stalker ex gf.
I was diagnosed with PTSD as well as needing 6 months of physio for the after-effects of surgery/radiotherapy.
DS moved to London for conservatoire...and the stalking and harassment continued.
Unsurprisingly, his physical and MH has suffered and he's had a tough time, which has been stressful to watch.
DD had her ADH D meds stopped by her psych, who informed her and us that she is "recovered" and then discharged her.
What followed was a complete MH crash in the run up to submitting her dissertation, requiring an emergency intervention by the uni welfare team.

Today, she found out she got a 1st for her diss and a high 2:1 overall.
Overjoyed doesn't come close, and so, so proud of her incredible tenacity.

Piggywaspushed · 23/06/2025 18:28

Hi old buddy.

You have had it so so tough. Congrats to DD. What a kickass legend.

Delphigirl · 23/06/2025 18:29

Oh piccolo I’m so sorry to hear about your very hard treatment and it’s after effects and absolutely furious to hear that the stalking has continued. So insidious and frightening and so so difficult to deal with. Also very sorry to hear about your DD’s mh issues but my goodness she has done fabulously through all that - she must be very strong. As are you all I think. I hope this is the start of a run of good news for you all! 💐💐💐

Alwaysplayspicc · 23/06/2025 18:32

Thank you!
Huge congratulations to your DS. - absolutely brilliant! I hope he's flicked the finger to the horrible lads that made his life so miserable.

Thank you, Delphi. It's been awful at times but I'm hopeful that we can put it behind us now. 🙏🙏

mummyinbeds · 23/06/2025 18:37

Fantastic results @Piggywaspushed and @ealingwestmum
It's a good job sniffy Sheffield open day mum never saw DS's second year Nottingham kitchen 🤮

Alwaysplayspicc · 23/06/2025 18:41

On the positive side...We took our school complaint all the way to a stage 3 panel hearing, which resulted in it being upheld - it was worth it just to see the panel's responses to what we told them in interview and the written rrport, which recommended the head and safeguarding lead undergo further training, among other things. 💪

mummyinbeds · 23/06/2025 18:46

@Alwaysplayspicc I'm so sorry to hear about your past year but hopefully the great dissertation result is a turning point for your DD's mh. I wasn't aware you could 'recover ' from ADHD. And your poor DS has been through so much I can only imagine how tough it's been to watch, especially when you've needed all your strength for your own health. Take care of yourself and remember here is always a safe space to let off steam 💐

ealingwestmum · 23/06/2025 18:46

Jeez @Alwaysplayspicc, what a challenging period for all of you, lovely to hear your DD’s outstanding results.

Wishing you all continued strength to get clearly out the other end, I have no words for the continued hell your boy still endures :(

Take care of yourself, but it’s good to have you back.

Seeline · 23/06/2025 19:13

Oh wow- more fantastic results. Congratulations to everyone!

So sorry to hear about your tough year @Alwaysplayspicc . I can't believe the stalking continued! Have the police done anything?

craggyrat · 23/06/2025 19:19

@Alwaysplayspicc gosh you've all been through the mill. Lovely to see you back and very well done to your DD

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 23/06/2025 19:33

Amazing news @Piggywaspushed @ealingwestmum and @Alwaysplayspicc we should be so proud of the achievements of our young people! 🎉

Im so sorry to read what you have all been through this past year @Alwaysplayspicc it sounds horrendous. Sending virtual hugs to you.

Piggywaspushed · 23/06/2025 19:41

Huge congratulations to your DS. - absolutely brilliant! I hope he's flicked the finger to the horrible lads that made his life so miserable.

I hope they all failed. ( I'm sure they didn't. )

Shimy · 23/06/2025 20:02

Huge congratualations to Piglet and @Alwaysplayspicc What fantastic results! i'm so pleased for both of you.

@mummyinbeds So glad yu made it home in one piece. How is dh now? I' d don't have any experience of heat stroke but hope he is having much needed rest and cooler breeze infact i think you all need some recovery time after the weekend.

mummyinbeds · 23/06/2025 20:19

@Shimy DH is fine now thanks (now that he got out of the driving) The 20° drop in temperature between Toulouse and Calais helped. The only one of us who didn't bounce out of bed this morning was DS who slept most of the journey back after a week of partying in Portugal.

crazycrofter · 23/06/2025 20:32

Oh @Alwaysplayspicc what an awful time you’ve all had, I’m so sorry. I hope you’re on the mend and Ds is ok; I can’t believe the stalking has continued 😮 A huge well done to dd, what a star she is! Praying that things improve for your family.

ExtensivelyDecorating · 23/06/2025 22:29

Oh @Alwaysplayspicc I have been thinking of you from time to time, what a lot you have had to deal with. Fantastic results for DD and well done you for taking the complaint all the way,, no one should have to put up with the sort of behaviour your DS has.

Fantastic results too for @Piggywaspushed DS and @ealingwestmum DD, well done to both of them.
