Cass - Not a silly question at all hun. I would suggest making sure that one wash is with detergent as you're washing for two reasons, 1. to get any grub off that has accumulated on it whilst being made/stored/posted and 2. to increase the absorbency of the fabric. I would just chuck the new nappies in with your normal nappy wash a couple of times, although I am never that calm and always forgo softener in my clothes wash just so that I can stick my nappies in with it to get them ready quicker! I don't believe you'll have to dry them between washes either so you could do it in a day if you had a couple of loads of whites to wash and could bare to do it without softener. HTH

Bearhug - NMotherease Airflows will do the trick, it's a bomb proof wrap if ever I saw one!

lollipopmother · 18/12/2008 23:52

Oh, but I have seen good things about the new Tots Bots wraps but have never used one .

4CALLINGBIRDSandnotout · 19/12/2008 07:56

I love the new tot wraps. I was a bit apprehensive to try one at first as the old ones were crap but the new ones are great. Airflows are 100% bombproof if only they were prettier....

aaaaaaagaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, smelly sandys again!! help..

will eco balls stop this???

ilovelovemydog · 19/12/2008 09:43

jingle how often are you washing your Sandy's? I know that if I leave it for more than a day (and dry pail) they can get a bit whiffy...

Just did a 60 degree wash on nappies that hadn't been washed for 3 days and that seems to have sorted it out....

4CALLINGBIRDSandnotout · 19/12/2008 09:47

I have to wash the nappies everyday if not they still reek even after a 60 wash, i also have a tendancy to over fill the washer so this way there are only 1/2 the amount so they get cleaner.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 19/12/2008 09:59

I seem to have to wash every day too! My little boy wants his nappy changed as soon as it's wet (else his hand is inside nappy & scratching etc! - tho he often does this even when nappy is dry...just to make sure that he's all out of place when he does do a wee, and we get wet clothes too! ) Anyway, so I seem to go through enough nappies with just the 1 child, that often means if I go every other day I have tooooo many nappies to get them properly clean, even tho I always do a 60 degree wash.

4CALLINGBIRDSandnotout · 19/12/2008 10:08

I bought a bumgenius sized aio and tried it yesterday, it fitted lovely, felt lovely and trim, looked smashing but leaked like a sieve She had soaked through nappy, vest & trousers within the hour Will have to sell it on I should have known really as i have to put a bamboo booster in her bumgenius v2's underneath the insert otherwise they only last an hour!

MrsJamin · 19/12/2008 11:49

Hello everyone, sorry not kept up with chat - you guys like to talk fluff don't you?!
Need to find a waterproof bag for childminder to hand back dirty nappies in - would like to spend £8 or less really. I have a tots bots PUL one but it doesn't actually close entirely from the drawstring - does anyone use one that actually does? Any other tips about going back to work & using cloth gratefully received - it feels like it's going to be hard work!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 19/12/2008 11:58

MrsJamin: If you try putting a want up on the Yahoo Real Nappies group, I'm sure someone will come along with one for a lot less than 8 pounds - unless you're wanting a new one. I got one off there for my sister (along with a couple of things I was buying) free for postage, though not something that seals up 100%...guess you're needing one with a zip or something?

AndHeaVanAnnNatureSing · 19/12/2008 12:23

MrsJamin - I have waterproof bags that zip up to close. Got them off a babykind agent. If you want I could find out what make they are and let you know?

Slightly annoyed here. The inserts recommended for the Nature Babies Stuffables is actually about an inch too wide between the legs. So it bunches up in the pocket. Would this cause leaks, as I had a major wee leak in one yesterday?

MrsJamin · 19/12/2008 12:33

AHVANS - yes please could you let me know what they are? Are they on the babykind website?

AndHeaVanAnnNatureSing · 19/12/2008 12:50

Strangely I haven't seen them on the website, so I will email the agent I got them from and ask for you. I'll let you know as soon as I have a reply

treedelivery · 19/12/2008 18:49

Helloo all

About the sealable wet bag thing. Is there any reason I couldn't use something like a plastic clothes bag? I have fab little bags her 3 pack of babygrows came in with a zip top, in fairly heavy strong plastic. Thought they might work?

I bought a new tots bot wrap on ebay - seems there were a few that failed quality control [mine has the pattern slightly off centre] so looking forward to seeing how it does. Its a size 1 and looks HUGE next to motherese. Was a fiver!!

treedelivery · 19/12/2008 19:33

Do you think it would be really sad to ask mil to get me a bluberry minky onesize for Christmas? She asked me what I wanted - and other than the mortgage paying - thats really what I want! £20 for a nappy. Blimey.

AndHeaVanAnnNatureSing · 19/12/2008 19:42

tree my MIL was saying she would get me some coloured sandy's for christmas till I told her they don't come out till the new year

treedelivery · 19/12/2008 19:45

Not just me then!!

Well, if we can't have Christian Dior shoes we can have nappies.

Lord am tired this eve. Finding night shift recovery a bit of a battle!

ilovelovemydog · 19/12/2008 20:49

got some for my birthday! (mom lives in California)

But really - how sad is that - getting diapers for your birthday! Even sadder is that is what I wanted!

treedelivery · 19/12/2008 21:08

Thought you meant Dior shoes then for one glorious moment!

Dior nappies? A thought anyway.

lollipopmother · 19/12/2008 22:10

I would be more than happy to get some Weenotions or Blueberry Minkys, they're sooo lovely! I've got a couple already but 2nd hand, would love to have a brand new one though especially a Weenotions embroidered specially.

Essie3 · 19/12/2008 22:11

I asked for nappies but was told no by MIL. Also DH refused me washable wipes. So sad too!

MrsJamin - I have a waterproof drawstring bag and it doesn't draw. Grr. The little ones are ok, but the big one - to save using a bucket - tends to smell too much. So interested in this bag babykind bag...

4Notout, Lollipop, I'm going back to London tomorrow morning, will be in touch re: pop-ins. Really sorry! Been ill.

4CALLINGBIRDSandnotout · 19/12/2008 23:13

No worries essie, whenever you are ready My echeque has cleared so i have some funds in pp

babyjjbaby · 20/12/2008 13:17

lollipop thanks for the boosters

lollipopmother · 20/12/2008 20:29

Baby Ahh good, glad you got them safely.

My DP took DD downstairs when she woke this morning to give me a lie-in, I only woke up at 10.40 because a friend called my mobile! He then looked after DD whilst I went out for some last minute errands, I came home and he'd put my newly purchased Blueberry Minky on because he liked the look of it - he wasn't sure what insert to put in it which was fair enough as it wasn't made up and all the nappy stuff is everywhere at the moment, he'd put a fleece topped booster in it bless him but I was quite proud, at least he realised it did actually need something in it and also didn't bother to put a wrap over the top ~(although that may have been a fluke!)

ChristmasFlower · 21/12/2008 15:30

hi all, hope you're all well, haven't been here for few days (DP worked from home so was using laptop and too tired at night (trying do do shopping/preparations). Finally put Xmas tree up!!

Anyway, received a cute wool wrap form an MNetter just on time for xmas so looking fwd to trying it (lanolising as we speak), it's red with a smily sun on the bum.... also got a disana wool wrap and a tie-on nappy, both look very cute and all drying atm.

should maybe get another newish bumhugger though, hate the smell but can't fault it and I need another one to have enough (the 2 old style one somehow don't fit as good, kind of smaller), but need to start selling what I'm not using... will post a list here soon, well probably after xmas.

and I'd like to get a couple of "pretty-showing-off" nappies too...

really of those coloured Sandy's.... those or blueberry would be the best present ever... sad, so sad I am
