GENERAL CHAT THREAD FOR CLOTH NAPPY USERS - PART 3

1000 replies

BigBadMouseInHauntedHouse · 30/10/2008 19:29

(Incredibly childish) BBM sneakily makes part 3 thread and places Sandy's flag at the top for a second time.

(Flag is made from organic cotton and has been dry pailed and washed at 40C)

OP posts:

Bum Genius, Motherease, Kissaluvs are all American (Motherease is Canadian, but sells in US dollars).

If new to cloth, would go with Bum Genius to see if she likes them. Not the one size, but all in one which is sized. Am fairly sure she can order them from their web site.

ilovemydog · 09/12/2008 00:08

Oh, and Bum Genius do a Bamboo one (that needs a wrap) as Bum Genius usually don't need a wrap....

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 09/12/2008 00:40

Why not the one-sized, ILMD?

Annvan Have emailed you
I have just contacted totsbots as my flexitots are shredding and going bald and they are only a couple of months old I wouldn't mind if they were used everyday but i have a huge rotation so they shouldn't be getting worn out!

lollipopmother · 09/12/2008 10:30

Daisy - Tell BBM that there's no rush, if she's got RL issues then that comes a long way before a couple of silly nappies. Send her my love.

AnnVan - I think I might try the Fluffle as a night nappy then. I have a feeling that I massively over-boost all my nappies, I've always put at least one cloth in my Bumhuggers for instance. I'm slightly at whether the Fluffles will look ridiculously bulky with an extra booster though. God I wish that Bumhuggers were better around the leg and didn't stink so much, then I wouldn't have to constantly worry that she's dripping wet in the night whilst I try all these other nappies on her.

AndHeaVanAnnNatureSing · 09/12/2008 10:39

Lollipop do you find the bumhuggers just stink generally or just when they're wet? The one of yours that I have here seems ok when clean. Little mand ALWAYS smells in the morning, so can't really tell a difference from any other nappy when it's wet from a full night in it.

AndHeaVanAnnNatureSing · 09/12/2008 10:40

Oops - Little man that should say.

ilovemydog · 09/12/2008 10:45

Daisy Tell BBM she needs to hurry back and start the new thread soon!

Swamspter - The Bum Genius all in one, which is sized, is amazing. It's like a disposble and is more absorbent than the one size. The downside is that you have to wash the whole thing. With a nappy and wrap, you only have to change the nappy unless major blow out...

lollipopmother · 09/12/2008 10:52

AnnVan - It only stinks when wet, it's the hemp I think. Microfibre can be pretty wiffy too though. I really liked the pop-in this morning because it didn't smell at all. Sandy's don't smell either but I couldn't put her in one overnight, I just don't think they'd last by a long shot. I'm trialling using soap nuts and eco-balls now instead of washing powder because it's possible all my nappies have powder build-up so I'll see if that makes them better, if I can stand to put a Bumhugger on again that is!

lollipopmother · 09/12/2008 10:52

Ilovemydog Are the BumGenius all in one a new thing?

ilovemydog · 09/12/2008 11:01

lollipop Don't think they are new. I tested them for Mother and Baby... They are fairly night proof, and my insurance that when I'm away, DP and mil don't use disposables

bum genius all in one

EssieAStarInBethlehem · 09/12/2008 11:11

Hello all, been absent for a bit - and stressing with my pop-ins! I've started a thread in case anyone can comment.

Oh, bum, baby is crying, got to go. Back later.

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 09/12/2008 11:25

Poo! I just got a dozen one size BGs - I love them but I maybe I should have tried the sized ones too...

thebluefoxategreensocks · 09/12/2008 12:29

lollipopmother: I've been having problems with Benjamin being soaked when wearing Minki pockets (I think it has to do with the 100% cotton "eczema" pyjamas instead of his fleece ones, as we've used Minki for over a year with no problems....but 2 wet beds/clothes in the middle of the night last week was too much for me!) Anyway, said all that to say...I tried him in a Fluffle last night (size 2 nippi fastening one) and put an additional large Fuzzis microfibre insert, as well as a facecloth (LOL) inside the pocket and it didn't look too bad for hugeness. I never liked the idea of massively over-stuffed nappies, but looked OK and fit nicely around legs too. Used a XL Airflow over it and did him 12 hours just fine - including him downing about 8oz of watered down apple juice in the night! So I was quite impressed. It's the old (short pile) Fluffles I've got - can't stand the look of the new ones!

up2myknees · 09/12/2008 12:30

HI ALL _ Lollipop let me know how eco balls go!!

4CALLINGBIRDSandnotout · 09/12/2008 14:31

Just heard back from totsbots, i have to send my flexitots back and then will send me replacements and refund my postage, lucky i have loads of nappies i can use otherwise i'd be left up a creak....

thebluefoxategreensocks · 09/12/2008 15:12

Seems a lot of ppl have had problems with various Tots Bots over the past year or so. Is it just new ranges, or the fact that they're not making them in the UK anymore?! At least they seem wiling to put it right and send replacements though. But wonder why other nappies of theirs that are years old seem ok, and others that are barely used are faulty. Glad you're getting your sorted!

4CALLINGBIRDSandnotout · 09/12/2008 16:12

Rachel apparently it's because the turkish produced totsbots weren't as good quality (well thats what the email said anyway)

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 09/12/2008 21:27

what's up with your flexitots 4?

4CALLINGBIRDSandnotout · 09/12/2008 21:43

The bamboo inner has started to shred and go bald! They are only a few months old and hardly used !

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 09/12/2008 21:52

oh, that's a bummer. Good that they are changing them then. I have some size 2s that are in the attic till I need them for DS2. I hope they are OK as I doubt they would change them after a year?

Are tots cotton nappies good in size 2? I seem to remember hearing that one of the tots size 2s were pants (no pun intended, lol) but I can't remember which ones, either cotton or bamboo.

I bought some coloured cotton tots with a view to selling them on and the labels say wither made in Scotland or made in UK, so obviously beofre they shipped out their manufacturing to Turkey. Does this mean they are better quality and will command a higher price on the second hand market?

Anyway, if people rate them I'll probably keep them for DS2. I'm busy picking the velcro off them as I think most nappy users prefer nippas...well I do at any rate.

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 09/12/2008 21:57

and meant to say that the "tongue" on one of mine has started to come away from the nappy, but I didn't think it was worth worrying about in the grand scheme of things.

ilovemydog · 09/12/2008 22:03

Daisy it really would be taking the you know what if you sent the Flexitots back!

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 09/12/2008 22:29

I have no shame
