Yeah a huge gap. Widowed at 28. New marriage at 31 (to a younger man...eeep!) He's the last of his biological line. So, we "left the door open in case someone strolled through." After eight years, I thought I was home free. Then, I took a summer off of tour. Turns out my tour dates always coincided with ovulation. Don't regret the temporary time turning into semi-permanent time. Someone truly spectacular strolled through the door. Glad I left it open. I'm 44 BTW.

HI everyone. I'm 39 with a 20 month DS - and trying for a second DC. Sadly I have had two recent mcs in a row and am so scared these have been caused by my age and that I'll never have a sibling for DS.
Can anyone reassure me?

Great to see that you're all on this thread - was starting to think I was a lone older voice on MN. Debz I would love to have another one but hasn't happened so far. However we were told my dd has croup yesterday and at such times it's difficult to imagine also looking after another little one.

Gateau - a friend of mine in her late 30s had two miscarriages and went on two have two boys and I had a missed miscarriage before having dd. Have you been able to investigate why you had the miscarriages?

Not yet extremely.
Where I live you have to have three consecutive mcs to be investigated. Hopefully it won't come to that.

Debzm62, for some strange reason, doesn't it feel wonderful not to be unique?!? I keep reading those "special" and "unique" books to DS, but my heart says, "ecstasy loves company."

Sian Williams - presents Breakfast on BBC with Bill Turnbull - is 44 and pregnant with 4th child. Always good to hear of a mature woman falling pregnant.

Thought I wold try to resurrect this thread. I am 41 and have a baby girl of 7 weeks. My older daughter is 20!!
Do I have the biggest age gap between kids?? I have to say that most people mistake myself and eldest daughter for sisters....or at least that's what I like to think!! lol
I love being a mum all over again. New partner, 8 years my junior with no previous kids. I have said that this will be the only one but I am so in love with my LO that I have started thinking that one more could be an option, and seeing how many cool older mums are around having babies well into their 40s is really encouraging me!!

I'm 43 with a 3 year old ds, and hoping to have another one. Gateau, how are you getting on with that?

elvislives · 26/07/2009 10:34

No Missy you don't have the biggest gap. My DD1 turned 21 a month before DD2 was born

Wow Elvislives, that's cool. I do get some strange reactions when people ask me if my LO is my first and I then go on to tell them that she is my 2nd and my first is 20. I really enjoyed having an only child with my eldest and because of the gap it's like having another only child....for now ;)
Are you hoping to have any more?
Whereabouts in Essex are you from FranSanDisco? I'm in Romford!

We also have 3 boys between DD1 and DD2 (17 19 and 21 ). It is funny when people ask if she's our only and we say no, she's our fifth. They go

DH would like another but I'm 46 now so I think we are pushing it!

A distant aunt of mine attended her eldest child's wedding - he was 23 - and then gave birth to her youngest a week later!

I'm 51 with a 10yo only-child dd. Do I count? I was 41 when she was born - that made me old at the time, honest!

I'm old 41, 6 kids 10-2 years. Would love another but we've no money. I wonder how long I've got until I should stop hoping?
