Sorry for joining so late - I'm 44 and a single mother to four-year-old boy/girl twins.

Live in north London and soon to start retraining as a teacher after years of being a SAHM .... very very scared as not sure where I put my brain ....

Good for you, kdk!

I've signed up for a 5 week novel writing course in November, and feel much the same way - but at least its a short, cheap course and I can tell myself I can always drop out if necessary

Don't worry about brain: it'll be sitting there twiddling its thumbs waiting for some like minded people and a bit of stimulation - you'll see

Elibean · 07/09/2008 13:36

debz, hope you're sitting with your feet up today after that mammoth task

mufti · 07/09/2008 13:37

well done debz, i get colour on my grey hair every 6 weeks at vast expense

hello kdk. have the twins started school yet?
what age group would you like to teach, up to ks2, i think they are most willing to learn.

hi mufti

the little darlings start on the 23rd - the school had them down to start a week apart but I nixed that.

I'm training to teach English as a second language and literacy in the post compulsory sector. Not sure I've got the patience to teach kids though very rewarding!

dd1 starts Reception tomorrow. I would have expected myself to be all self-conscious about being the oldest at the gate blah blah, but for once I'm not: I have met a yr 1 Mum who had her first (only) child older than I had my youngest, so I feel I have company...

...sort of know it shouldn't matter, but its nice anyway, I get tired of trailblazing

I'm 47 and I'm NOT OLD!!
I have been biking in the park and playing on the swings today. I think I'm younger than I was in my 20's in some ways!

And I don't have a single grey hair.

Acinonyx ? My baby is seven months old. Your 3 year old must be at a very entertaining age, but I know what you mean about getting out and about. My getting out involves a couple of sessions of personal training a week. I leave my baby at the club?s crèche where he gets to meet other little ones and I have my vital ?me? time (to be highly recommended).

Exactly, where does the time go? To add to the work load I am into pureeing at the moment and yesterday?s new concoction was spinach, fennel and apple puree. I was expecting him to spit it out but was rewarded by him actually enjoying it (it was very tasty).

Has your daughter started nursery yet? I have mine down to start in 3 years time and am not looking forward to the school run at all.

fao mufti

I don't really know yet - I did a TEFL course years ago and lived and taught in France for a while but the college will sort me some teaching practice for the first year.

I want to teach adults/young adults and probably in the day as it would fit better with my children but got two years of training to get through first

Mufti - that's what I'm retraining as a teacher - need to find something that fits in (roughly) with school terms.

Yeah, DTs will only be at school for a couple of hours to start with - but hoping that with my mum's help, I'll manage. I only do one day a week at college plus half a day's teaching practice and some time for reading/lesson preparing/essays ... but hopefully it won't be too bad

arabicabean - alas I am not very fond of exercise apart from cycling, which is useful. Gym sessions would not be my first choice for 'me time'!

That sounds like an interesting puree. Dd was a pretty good eater but it has gone rather downhill in the last year or so. I remember at 9 mo she usually had pureed pears for breakfast.

dd started nursery for 2 afternoons/week at 7.5 months, then 2 whole days at 14 mo, then 3 days at 26 mo. Now we've switched to a CM for 3 days/week and she probably won't go to preschool. It is a scramble in the morning and dh still sometimes mistakenly lets me sleep in, forgetting that I have to get ready before him on those mornings or it all goes pair-shaped.
