Co-parent gone on holiday and left kids with his parents.

Ex and I usually follow the 2-2-3 co parenting rule which generally works well for us but as it’s summer holidays we’re giving week-on week-off a go. So far I hate it but that’s another story. The kids have been with him for 6 days and are back to me tomorrow. Today I’ve found out that he’s gone on holiday abroad with his girlfriend and the kids have been sent to their grandparents to stay for the day/night (kids will not be happy about this arrangement at all). I’ve text Ex and said that if either of us are unavailable during our scheduled child time then we should be defaulting back to the other co-parent before asking family members for sleepovers but do I even have a leg to stand on asking that? I know technically it’s none of my business what happens during his time with the kids but this has simultaneously pissed me off (because why does he want to cut his measly 50% any shorter) and upset me (because I know the kids will be having a miserable time with mean grandparents). Ugh.

Many commenting don’t have to see their children being hauled from place to place in the auspices of ‘co-parenting’. If the children would rather be at home with their mother, then why shouldn’t they be? **

I'm still with DH and I wouldn't have been happy to leave DC with my IL either 😂.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's that unexceptional and they have a right to see DC too. I used to stay with GP in the summer holidays. I thought it was about seeing them but as an adult I realised it was more about childcare. It did mean I got to spend time with GP though.

I thought he'd left them there all week but one night isn't unreasonable, sorry.

He could have gone away with his girlfriend on his week without the kids though …

I used to do week on/week off with my ex and yes if I wanted to go on holiday would go on my week off BUT most package deals require you to be away for more than 7 days ie travel to airport for check in/ time for travel home from a later flight on return which sometimes required some help for at least several hours of “my week on”. My exh was an absolute dick and used those few hours against me so I stopped asking and made other arrangements with my parents.
Op states she doesn’t have parents or siblings so her children’s wider family is already small, it would be a shame to reduce contact with the only GPs they have even if they are not perfect

I would've been happy with this situation. My children's Father has been on holiday mutliple times during his court ordered time with the kids, hasn't informed me and I've had to pick up the pieces whilst trying to also hold down a job.
It would've been nice if he'd have informed you. But otherwise I wouldn't worry too much, it's only 1 night.

Do you notify him each and everytime a babysitter or family member is used by you? Even if you do it's a "Nunya" situation.
