How old is the child who coloured this picture in?

I’ve seen these threads on here before and now I’m interested in hearing the replies for my own child.

I drew the aeroplane, my child did the rest - colouring in, extra squiggles on top, selecting the colours and where to put them. It’s felt tip.

How old so you think this child might have been?

Once we get a few replies I will come back and share the reasons I’m asking.

So many of these types of threads. Who cares! So tedious.

Thanks for the replies. The child is 3.5.
I just posted because (1) I’ve seen others do it and thought, why not? (2) My son has shown zero interest in colouring or drawing and now, all of a sudden he seems to want to really try and concentrates on it well. So his ‘artwork’ has gone from just a few squiggles on the page to (what I thought was) relatively neat colouring in just a short space of time.

Wow that’s amazing my sun is the same age and only just started colouring in.

Meant to say son not sun lol

We all think our kids are amazing and special and so we should but personally I would not do a thread like this, Mine talked in full sentences from a very early age and I thought they were so amazing and destined for greatness!

Mummypie21 · 21/07/2025 22:31

I think the colouring is good. My younger son is 3.5 and he would go outside the lines more.

Lauralou19 · 21/07/2025 22:37

It’s so hard to answer a thread like this as my youngest has always disliked colouring but is one the top in the class generally, but terrible at colouring 😂He never had any interest in at at all, would colour things in as quick as possible. We bought sticker books, puzzle books instead. So in my case, your Son has probably put alot more effort in than my child who is alot older.

If they love art or any subject, go with it and embrace it, but I wouldn’t read anything into it other than they love doing it.

Inclined to say depends if it’s a girl or boy. Girl I would say 4/5, boy 5/6

Well yeah, exactly. Why do people come on to threads just to express their disapproval of said thread? What they’re actually doing is inadvertently bumping it up the active list.

Miracle1116 · 21/07/2025 22:53

I don't think OP have asked about our children's skills or do we brag about it. Probably just cautious not to get too excited with level of her child's coloring skills so wanted some objective oppinions. Amazing and advanced for 3.5 yo Def! You should be proud OP! 😊

@Puddlewoman No not worried at all, but trying to understand what’s what I suppose. What is a ‘good’ attempt by a 3.5 year old... I was more just surprised as before this I had mainly just seen a lot of scribbles.

It is a good attempt for a 3.5 yr old, not outstanding or unusual but definitely good.

Yes, the artist was 3.5, which falls neatly in my guessed window.

I think its age-appropriate.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 21/07/2025 23:03

No idea and it's not important. I have three kids and based on their different abilities growing up it could be from around age 4 to 13.

Needsleepneedcoffee · 21/07/2025 23:19

My middle child is 3 and 3 months. His colouring isn't as good, but the paediatrician who assessed him at 3 and a few weeks was impressed with his pincer grip and his colouring during his autism assessment .
So I'd say there's a chance your son is above in this area.
I also think that most kids have an area where they're naturally quite forward, but also areas where they naturally struggle a little.
DD has always been strong with numbers and STEM subjects, but she has never reached the attainment expected in literacy (she did alright in her GCSES after years of reports saying she wasn't meeting goals!)

ahh so I think you are over thinking this. My son has been colouring like this since 2.75 ish/3.. they’re all different. My friends daughter is 2 and colouring terribly but also a jigsaw puzzle savant….
