How old is the child who coloured this picture in?

I’ve seen these threads on here before and now I’m interested in hearing the replies for my own child.

I drew the aeroplane, my child did the rest - colouring in, extra squiggles on top, selecting the colours and where to put them. It’s felt tip.

How old so you think this child might have been?

Once we get a few replies I will come back and share the reasons I’m asking.

Could be my 12 year old when he can't be bothered to colour properly. But I think mine could have managed this colouring around age 5.

Screwcorona · 21/07/2025 21:43

One of my kids was like this from about 3 and a half and the other about 5. The range could be quite big so not entirely possible to be sure

Digdongdoo · 21/07/2025 21:44

My 3 year old could do this on a good day. Would be fairly typical of my 5 year old. My 9 year old has never bothered to be this neat in his life, though I'm sure he absolutely could.
So um, who the fuck knows?

4-6

My eldest coloured in like that at 6 or 7. His little brother was neater than that at 4, as in there wouldn’t have been any pen over the lines at all. Interestingly, my eldest is the one who is now decent at art while my youngest is truly awful. So being something of a colouring in protege did not help him🤣

Greeksummerholiday · 21/07/2025 21:51

A 3 or 4 year old who likes to colour

cocoromo · 21/07/2025 21:53

So many of these types of threads. Who cares! So tedious.

LBFseBrom · 21/07/2025 21:55

6? Very good at colouring, not careless.

Bubblybits · 21/07/2025 21:56

My 5 year old DD would do better than this, but this would be a good job for my 7 year old DS. He’s bloody good at gymnastics though and DD is… enthusiastic. They all have their strengths.

Toptotoe · 21/07/2025 21:56

4 or 5

FancyCatSlave · 21/07/2025 21:57

My DD could colour like this in pre-school, so 3.5/4

At almost 6 I don’t exaggerate when I say her drawing is already better than mine.

SimoneJadeM · 21/07/2025 21:57

I'm going to say maybe 4 or 5

I would say 5 or 6 … I don’t think a pre schooler could do this

Thanks for the replies. The child is 3.5.
I just posted because (1) I’ve seen others do it and thought, why not? (2) My son has shown zero interest in colouring or drawing and now, all of a sudden he seems to want to really try and concentrates on it well. So his ‘artwork’ has gone from just a few squiggles on the page to (what I thought was) relatively neat colouring in just a short space of time.

My youngest could manage this at 3 his older brother would struggle now at 18 they both have autism. Are you worried about the childs development @ViaRia01

PhaseFour · 21/07/2025 22:01

I know a 3 and a half year old who could do this much neater and doesn't go out of the lines at all.
However, I think her fine motor skills are way beyond what is normal, so with that in mind, I will say 4.

YelramBob · 21/07/2025 22:01

13 and 3/4

Imlyingandthatsthetruth · 21/07/2025 22:03

Yawn

Ah well done to your child for learning a new skill. It's a good one to try and keep up as they will use these muscles for writing so keep encouraging them.

Ha, yes! 😆

ViaRia01 · 21/07/2025 22:04

@Puddlewoman No not worried at all, but trying to understand what’s what I suppose. What is a ‘good’ attempt by a 3.5 year old... I was more just surprised as before this I had mainly just seen a lot of scribbles.

OP posts:
Sprinklesandsprinkles · 21/07/2025 22:06

It's far far better than my 3.5yr DS could do! He's not really interested in colouring in the slightest

Stripeysockspots · 21/07/2025 22:06

I found that once I pointed out the scribbles were in fact shit then my dc suddenly improved with this kind of thing. My DD would have done that at around 2. Ds at 6 but he has always preferred what I call 'action drawing' where he will midway through colouring the plane have it shot at, and then he will fire back etc etc until the entire page is black.
