Am I a the only person that thinks those girl baby bows are horrific?

I’ve been wondering if anyone agrees but these baby bows are so freaking HORRIBLE!! They’re so ugly and giant and makes the baby girl look stupid. Nobody needs to know the gender of your baby that bad. Babies don’t know where their feet are never mind what gender they are meaning they don’t care what gender they get called. If you really wanted to be obvious about their gender you’d buy girly clothes and girly toys which just proves that the bows are literally just to use the baby as an aesthetic!! At least it points out the mothers that care more about their baby looking aesthetically pleasing than them being comfy in a nice little hat and outfit. If my baby is a girl I hope to God nobody gifts me a bow bigger than her newborn head.

I have one girl and I never did this to her.
I've always quietly held the belief that the bows are naff. I was made to wear frilly socks, hated them, so I didn't buy them for my DD.

EasternStandard · 03/10/2024 07:28

They don’t look good but also a safety hazard

MagentaRavioli · 03/10/2024 07:28

I think all babies are gorgeous but didn’t bother with a bow for my dd - it’s enough faff already with a tiny baby without having to accessorise.

@alwaysmovingforwards What does that even mean?!

Council estate. You are lucky not to know that!

AllAboutNiamh · 03/10/2024 07:31

I agree - they’re just hideous. Do people put them on bald babies to prettify them? It does the absolute opposite.

ObieJoyful · 03/10/2024 07:33

I just think babies are gorgeous as they are, and don’t need to be accessorised.

It’s not harmful to stick a bow on your baby’s head. Why not leave them in peace. There are more important things to be judgey about.

It is when people allow their babies to sleep in them - there have been babies die due to suffocation when the bows have slipped.
Obviously not common thank fully but still a risk.

OneBadKitty · 03/10/2024 07:34

Gender aside, I always just assume the parents are the sort that like the chavvy look- it's the sort of thing I imagine Katie Price putting on her baby.

Rainbowbub22 · 03/10/2024 07:36

@Fleur240

That they think just because someone lives in a council house they are automatically chav and lower class, just being judgemental really, as are most of the commenters on this post.
I hate this forum sometimes, god help anyone who comes here for genuine help, full of keyboard warriors, most of who probably have no clue about how it feels to be in the situation they are commenting on!
My opinion on the bows, for what it's worth, live a let live! Use them if you like them, agree use them safely, only when you can see the baby at all times, not in a car seat or cot etc.
As for the people saying genderising babies from birth or whatever it was, get a grip, what's wrong with dressing a baby girl like a baby girl, that's what they are after all.

It reminds me of the 1950s washer woman hair do

I will now think of Hilda Ogden when I see one 😁

ReadWithScepticism · 03/10/2024 07:40

They always make me think of Minnie Mouse, and they do look very horrible.

ACynicalDad · 03/10/2024 07:43

They’re awful.

Puffinlamb23 · 03/10/2024 07:48

Awful and tacky, but not as bad as piercing a baby's ears.

Who decides what’s ‘suitable’ for a baby girl. What all the bows & frills & shit? So they can be treated different to boys from hours old? Be nice & sweet & kind?

They look uncomfortable to me, like some kind of head binding.

It can be very harmful if it slips down and poses a suffocation risk. I don’t see why you would take the risk although Instagram and other social media are full of photos and videos of cute babies in dangerous situations. Even if they just posed the baby for a photo it sets a bad example to other people that might try to copy it.

Gigihadid · 03/10/2024 07:50

They even look horrible on those three beautiful babies.

TheBirdintheCave · 03/10/2024 07:53

My daughter has a small bow on a skinny piece of elastic that was gifted from my aunt. I rolled my eyes when I saw it but I have to admit it's cute on her 🤦🏻‍♀️ She wears it with the matching outfit but it gets removed in the car and when she's sleeping.

The larger bows and thick bands frighten me though.

doodleschnoodle · 03/10/2024 07:54

I think they're pretty hideous. Little baldy DDs would have looked like Phil Mitchell in drag. I think they're pretty impractical too. But obviously being aware of social niceties, I say how sweet they are when a baby turns up at a baby classes wearing one!

Sodthebloodymealplan · 03/10/2024 07:54

What a vile snob filled thread.
If you don't like them, don't put them on your baby. But there is no need for all the revolting judgement of others with different taste to you.

ButterAsADip · 03/10/2024 07:55

My mum hates them. They’re a guilty pleasure of mine but we’re only ever on for a photo because they wouldn’t stay on anyway! And I only bought them because they came with an outfit.

What’s the very worst is seeing bald newborns (generally American ones!) with bows GLUED to their heads…… heaven forbid anyone thinks your kid is a boy eh???

unsync · 03/10/2024 07:56

They give me Ena Sharples vibes.

I always feel sorry for them, being pushed at such a young age into the stereotype for their sex. It just reinforces that the role women and girls have in society is to be pretty and decorative.

DarkandStormyNightie · 03/10/2024 07:56

This thread represents the worst of Mumsnet. Vile, class based judgemental statements.

Any excuse to punch downwards.

FuckMiniBabybells · 03/10/2024 07:58

They're hideous. I don't understand people putting "style" over babies comfort. Same goes for jeans or scratchy frilly shite etc
