Am I a the only person that thinks those girl baby bows are horrific?

I’ve been wondering if anyone agrees but these baby bows are so freaking HORRIBLE!! They’re so ugly and giant and makes the baby girl look stupid. Nobody needs to know the gender of your baby that bad. Babies don’t know where their feet are never mind what gender they are meaning they don’t care what gender they get called. If you really wanted to be obvious about their gender you’d buy girly clothes and girly toys which just proves that the bows are literally just to use the baby as an aesthetic!! At least it points out the mothers that care more about their baby looking aesthetically pleasing than them being comfy in a nice little hat and outfit. If my baby is a girl I hope to God nobody gifts me a bow bigger than her newborn head.

I think it’s mad if you don’t have any hair (just had image of shaven headed Dh wearing a giant bow). I started using a thin one when DD had enough hair to fall into her eyes a bit but not enough to tie up (she used to take it off because she hated them). Otherwise whats the point.

Fleur240 · 03/10/2024 06:26

We had quite a few bought for us/given to us for our little one and I donated them all, as they’re really not to my taste. But if people like them and want to put them on their baby… who cares?!

muddyford · 03/10/2024 06:28

I have always thought this. Then as they get older, ankle socks with frills are as bad.

It’s a bit council imo

@alwaysmovingforwards What does that even mean?!

ticklecrabs · 03/10/2024 06:30

Meh, can't get worked up about what other people dress their babies in.

wishIwasonholiday10 · 03/10/2024 06:39

I hate them too! They must be uncomfortable for the small babies and are a safety hazard too. I see so many pictures of sleeping babies or babies in car seats with them and really hope people just put them on for the photo and didn’t leave the baby sleeping in it.

A few outfits that we have been given came with headbands but DD won’t be wearing one until she is old enough to choose to wear it.

hattie43 · 03/10/2024 06:46

I agree OP they are truly awful , any kind of hair band thing on a baby looks ridiculous.

Berlinlover · 03/10/2024 06:47

Awful, awful, awful. I’m glad someone agrees with me.

The poor babies must be lying with their heads on a ridge of fabric. Horrible things.
I am a bit judgy about dresses on newborns too. It’s just a roll of fabric around their middles unless you keep pulling it down.
Soft cotton vests and rompers and beanies so much more comfortable for them.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 03/10/2024 06:51

They are utterly hideous.

greengreyblue · 03/10/2024 06:55

Horrific? Ghastly?
Wouldn’t be my choice of headgear but I think you’re a tad OTT with your reactions.

Westfacing · 03/10/2024 06:57

Who can deny that those babies in the photo look very cute! As long as they're not left on I don't have a problem with them.

Didn't we all put our children in outfits that were more than just serviceable - I certainly dressed my sons in nice dungarees and brightly coloured t-shirts, etc.

Or did you dress your babies only in Babygro's?

The term is sex, the baby's sex.
Gender is for European language nouns.

We all knew what they meant. Lots of people still say 'gender', including me!
Not that I buy into them but a 'sex reveal party' has completely different connotations!

Newyearnewnameagain20 · 03/10/2024 07:07

Agree. Hideous

ChewtonRoad · 03/10/2024 07:11

The bows are quite naff.

a 'sex reveal party' has completely different connotations! Does it? The baby will be one of two sexes, female or male: set at conception, noted in utero, and confirmed at birth. No baby has "gender" unless others insist on applying outdated, regressive and harmful stereotypes to the child.

In this case the OP is entirely correct to use gender - this trend is all about enforcing and upholding gender stereotypes and making sure a baby is categorised into the gender norms that are expected for people of the female sex right from birth.

I agree with you @noirmum that these are horrible and the parents who use them are so full of sexism they aren't even aware of it.

Kitkat1523 · 03/10/2024 07:14

lots of things in life I would say are ‘horrific’
….but not a baby’s headband and bow….. it’s not my style but fine for those who like them 🤷‍♀️

escape · 03/10/2024 07:16

They look like bandages.

BurbageBrook · 03/10/2024 07:18

I agree. I've never put a bow on my daughter's head. I want her to be comfortable! I also think it's hilarious and odd when people put bows or clips on bald babies.

People do much worse things, though. Like piercing baby girls' ears Angry

Jeezitneverends · 03/10/2024 07:20

Hideous and dangerous…I know of a baby who died because of wearing one…and as others have said, sex not gender. Sex isn’t a dirty word

Potentialmadcatlady · 03/10/2024 07:20

I totally agree they are awful but be careful what you say… I dislike the colour pink and said that any babies of mine wouldn’t be wearing it… Q my first born being a very very tiny little girl with peaches and cream colouring and my now ex husband being sent out (we were stuck in hospital for a couple of weeks) to buy tiny baby clothes that HAD to be pink 😂

ivykaty44 · 03/10/2024 05:11

It reminds me of the 1950s washer woman hair do

Yes.

They scream low class to me.

Freydo · 03/10/2024 07:23

It’s not harmful to stick a bow on your baby’s head. Why not leave them in peace. There are more important things to be judgey about.

OMGsamesame · 03/10/2024 07:26

..nothing more adorable and baby-like..

Err - no.
By your logic, baby boys cannot be as adorable or baby-like as little girls?

For me the adorable look is a baby wrapped in a white towel or in a plain pale babygro.
