Am I a the only person that thinks those girl baby bows are horrific?

I’ve been wondering if anyone agrees but these baby bows are so freaking HORRIBLE!! They’re so ugly and giant and makes the baby girl look stupid. Nobody needs to know the gender of your baby that bad. Babies don’t know where their feet are never mind what gender they are meaning they don’t care what gender they get called. If you really wanted to be obvious about their gender you’d buy girly clothes and girly toys which just proves that the bows are literally just to use the baby as an aesthetic!! At least it points out the mothers that care more about their baby looking aesthetically pleasing than them being comfy in a nice little hat and outfit. If my baby is a girl I hope to God nobody gifts me a bow bigger than her newborn head.

Eh?
I've got a few for my daughter who is 7mnths. You do know if a baby doesn't like it or finds it uncomfortable they will literally just take it off?
What's different between the bow and any other item of clothing that isn't purely functional? These bows are soft
What's honestly the difference between that and a hat?
I think you are odd to get so worked up about this. It's just a bit of fun.
Or do you think babies should just wear plain white baby grows until they are old enough to choose their own clothing?
It's hard caring for a young baby. Let mums have fun with their bunny costumes and bows and novelty mittens. What's it to you? It doesn't mean these mums think their baby is just a doll or they don't love then properly, what an odd judgemental thing to think

I don't think I've ever seen an infant or child out and about wearing one.

I thought they were more for taking photos like when I put sunglasses on my dog for a moment just to take a photo.

Exactly.

The posters who are claiming they're not at all classist or judgemental but only concerned about safety can highlight the risks if they see an unattended infant and find the parents...

Alwaysyoudoyou · 03/10/2024 12:36

Yeah agree with @UserNameOfShame .

Its not for me but it's not the hill I'm gonna die on if I'm going to start lamenting other people's life choices 😅

Absolutely this.
I find some of the comments on here far more chavvy, tacky and horrific than a bow.
Some people think they have all the class when really they have absolutely none.

100% this. Classy folk don’t make these types of remarks. These kinds of remarks are always made by those that think they’re upmarket; but really aren’t.

AutumnCrow · 03/10/2024 13:32

There's nothing to stop a parent putting a big bow on a boy.

Covidwoes · 03/10/2024 20:16

I don't like them, but I wouldn't judge someone if they did put one on their DD. It's their choice! I agree, however, babies shouldn't be sleeping with them on. My DDs would never have kept one on anyway. 😂

WandaFishy99 · 04/10/2024 17:50

Absolutely horrible, reminds me of Hilda Ogden circa 1968.
I don't like any of those fancy bands on babies' heads.

It's sex, not gender. But, I do find that the people who put those god-awful bows on baby girls tend to go full gender stereotype with their babies. Pink and frilly for girls, blue and denim etc for boys,

But yes, they are naff as fuck.

Daisybridge · 04/10/2024 18:23

Agree

BooBooDoodle · 04/10/2024 18:59

Can’t stand them at all. Garish and just tacky chavvy to me.

mathanxiety · 04/10/2024 19:02

LivelyPearlBee · 03/10/2024 08:03

I don't know where this snobby idea came from that parents buy them because of some strange terror around their DC being misgendered.

Like many things, most parents buy them because they think they look cute.

That's as complex as it gets. The weird thing is inventing a way to judge parents imo.

But do they buy them for their baby boys?

FckTheSchGateHuns · 04/10/2024 19:36

Fleur240 · 03/10/2024 06:29

@alwaysmovingforwards What does that even mean?!

That they're classist.

FckTheSchGateHuns · 04/10/2024 19:38

OneBadKitty · 03/10/2024 07:34

Gender aside, I always just assume the parents are the sort that like the chavvy look- it's the sort of thing I imagine Katie Price putting on her baby.

You paint all your kids toys beige, don't you? 🤣

Fixx · 04/10/2024 20:30

I HATE THEM!!!

bakewellbride · 04/10/2024 20:32

Awful and also really dangerous- those horror stories where they slip down and suffocate the baby. Yes the risk is small but it's still a completely unnecessary risk, without one the risk is zero!

JayJayj · 04/10/2024 20:48

I had them for my daughter. Mainly just for photos because I thought she looked cute. She was so bald!!

I don’t think the should be worn for a length of time as the knot at the front leaves dints babies heads as there are so soft.

CrowleyKitten · 04/10/2024 21:20

I really hate them. they look daft, and it's not like they've got enough hair to need a hairband. so what's the point?

MarvellousMonsters · 04/10/2024 21:32

MsBaggins · 03/10/2024 12:22

Imagine judging babies 🤮
Gross thread full of gross people.

No one is judging the babies, we are judging the parents that put tacky chavvy bows on their babies.

MsBaggins · 04/10/2024 21:34

@MarvellousMonsters I'll reiterate my earlier point as you clearly struggle with reading comprehension.....

You are judging the baby because you are looking at them and thinking 'ew that looks chavvy.' That is deeply unpleasant.

Focus on your own children and bringing them up to be less judgemental and unkind than you.

Oblomov24 · 04/10/2024 21:41

I hate bows and clips in a young baby girl, even a toddler with little hair. Why? Just why. Makes me wince. Never seen one I've liked yet.

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/10/2024 21:41

I hate them with a passion. It's not something I feel sanguine about at all. I was definitely in the minority on Mumsnet when I started a similar thread years ago. Got my arse well and truly handed to me!

elociN5 · 04/10/2024 21:43

I don't like them personally, I have 2 girls and 3 boys and my girls never had anything pink let alone one of those. However.... unless there are valid safety concerns ...my position is live and let live

CrowleyKitten · 04/10/2024 21:46

sandgrown · 03/10/2024 08:37

A friend’s baby wears one all the time as she has no hair yet. I do wonder if the hair growth will be affected as baby hair can rub off so easily ?

seems like a reason that she really doesn't need one, to me. why wear a hairband if there's not much hair?

shehasglasses48 · 04/10/2024 21:54

They look so uncomfortable for the little one. More for the Facebook parent’s benefit x
