Breast milk jewellery- cute or wierd?!

Okay.... so I can't decide if this is cute or WIERD.

But..... I am currently bf and drawing to the end of the journey- maybe another month or 2. I feel really sad about giving up but I know it's time.

I saw some breast milk jewellery where they use resin to make a pearl looking stone out of breast milk.

I thought maybe this would be a cute keepsake... if not to wear then maybe just a little heart shaped one to keep in a special box.

Thoughts on this? Cute? wierd?

Also- do you know of any other ideas for breastfeeding keepsakes/ souvenirs?

Weird beyond weird.

DrHix · 10/01/2023 10:10

definitely weird

Suziesz · 10/01/2023 10:13

If breastmilk felt the same for you as discharge, then I hope you sought the help of a medical professional. @WhereTheFuckIsMyFuckingCoat

Why would I seek medical help? And for what?
It literally leaked uncontrollably in the background all day and night, and whether I wanted it to or not, to me that is no different to a discharge from many other parts of the body.
I’m allowed to have a different opinion to you.
No I don’t need to seek “the help from a medical professional”.

This is literally a thread for different opinions. If you can’t handle that don’t read it.

I’m not stopping anyone from hanging breast milk around their neck if that’s what floats their boat.

I'll go against the grain here too and say I have one and like it - I don't wear it much, it's not obvious what it's made of and I don't go round telling everyone about it so not sure how it would make me smug?! I'm not planning on leaving it to my son or anything, it's just for me. I was on the fence initially but thought I'd rather get one done rather than not and regret it later. Go for it if you like the idea - mine looks like this.

Yep weird, same as putting your placenta in capsules. Trust me you don't forget about your breastfeeding journey, everytime you see your boobs in the mirror you will be reminded of it 🙃

I had never heard of this before, but I'm quite tempted. It's quite a nice memory. I think mine may have dried up now tho! I think it's quite lovely. I don't understand why someone thought it was smug either

Except those of us without "boobs" (or breasts as adults call them), won't and don't have that visual reminder.

BabyOnBoard90 · 10/01/2023 10:37

Exceptionally weird. Too weird.

Especially cause BM is mainly water more than anything.

Because discharge is a bodily waste excretion, and breastmilk is a natural product that is specifically made to feed and nourish our young.

If yours was/is in any way similar, then there was/is something wrong, which would definitely require medical assistance. There's no comparison.

That's not an opinion, it's a medical fact.

SamanthaVimes · 10/01/2023 10:43

I wouldn’t personally get one but don’t judge people who do.

When I finish feeding I’m planning on getting some jewellery with a pearl in it to remember the children being little and this time.

I also take photos to look back on, I’m sure the children won’t be interested in them when they’re grown up (although toddler DD likes looking at them now) but I love looking at them!

Suziesz · 10/01/2023 10:53

@WhereTheFuckIsMyFuckingCoat
Your opinions are not medical facts.

People can turn breastmilk into whatever they fucking like for all I care. I’m not dictating anyone else’s lives but I’m not the only one who isn’t into it and finds it weird or gross.
Please go away and stop lashing out at me because you have a different opinion. ✌️

agna8277 · 10/01/2023 10:56

My breastfeeding journey was painful (literally) but I persevered. Towards the end, I made a BM necklace, thought it was a nice touch to remind myself how hard I tried.

The necklace turned out looking awful, it was a DIY kit and I didn't do it right probably. So I just threw it away Envy

Dramalam · 10/01/2023 11:02

WhereTheFuckIsMyFuckingCoat · 10/01/2023 09:16

Really?

Have you ever nourished another human being with your toenail clippings or discharge?

Breastmilk isn't human waste.

Not toilnail clippings no... but fruit, veg, bread etc yes and I have never felt the need to encapsulate a sandwich in a necklace.

Emmamoo89 · 10/01/2023 11:14

I think its cute. I'm going to get a ring and do it x

Emmamoo89 · 10/01/2023 11:15

Suziesz · 10/01/2023 09:15

Weird. I really don’t get it.

It’s like putting toenail clippings or discharge in a necklace. 🤢

It's totally different

Emmamoo89 · 10/01/2023 11:15

It's just milk ffs.*

Don't people eat the placenta capsules though? I know women who had prints done from their placentas as a keep sake

I hope I can feed my second so I can get one 🙈🙈 I think they're cute

lottie198 · 10/01/2023 11:29

I'd be intrigued to ask if all the people saying it's weird if they've breast fed their babies ?

I think it's a lovely idea and thinking of doing it myself . They do some lovely rings and they look a bit like pearls and I like that style anyway. My friends got one and often gets compliments on it.

lottie198 · 10/01/2023 11:29

Lcb123 · 10/01/2023 07:34

I personally think it’s weird and smug. But if you like it then go ahead.

What's smug about it ??

nameisnotimportant · 10/01/2023 11:29

@yorkshirepudsx yes true, the milk necklace is not as bad. The placenta capsules makes me feel a bit nauseous but it doesn't take much to make me feel sick. I actually have a picture of my placenta. Really could not imagine eating it in capsules or a smoothie though 🤢

Some of them have said they have 🙈

I didn't get to (issues breast-feeding) but this is something I'd 100% do. I find it sentimental and really nice x

I loved breastfeeding and that time of our lives was a special one. But I'd definitely not want breast milk jewellery, I find it a bit weird tbh and I do agree with the PP who said it can come across a bit self-congratulatory

And what's wrong with the self congratulatory?
Surely it's an achievement.

Suziesz · 10/01/2023 11:34

@lottie198 I'd be intrigued to ask if all the people saying it's weird if they've breast fed their babies ?

I breastfed and find BM jewellery weird.
To me there was/is just nothing particularly commemorative about breastfeeding to put breastmilk into a locket or whatever.

I fed my child but I never seen it as a ‘journey’ or an ‘achievement’ any more than other parts of motherhood.
