Breast milk jewellery- cute or wierd?!

Okay.... so I can't decide if this is cute or WIERD.

But..... I am currently bf and drawing to the end of the journey- maybe another month or 2. I feel really sad about giving up but I know it's time.

I saw some breast milk jewellery where they use resin to make a pearl looking stone out of breast milk.

I thought maybe this would be a cute keepsake... if not to wear then maybe just a little heart shaped one to keep in a special box.

Thoughts on this? Cute? wierd?

Also- do you know of any other ideas for breastfeeding keepsakes/ souvenirs?

@PortiasBiscuit I think that is weird, threatening to use a video to embarrass an older child. Just wrong on so many levels. Doesn't help normalize bf at all, and presumably you did it because it's natural and it worked for you.

Honestly it gives me the eugh. I look at that pendent image and cannot see how anyone thinks it’s stunning, knowing it’s some old milk in resin. I just can’t work out why anyone would want to keep their old off breast milk as a souvenir and worse, wear it.

Nothing wrong with it at all. I can't wait to get a ring. It'll never come off

Side note about my regretted it part - I didn't regret bottle feeding my child before someone jumps at that, he was fed and fed is always best. I just regret not seeking more support/help or trying for longer. X

It's not your fault. Support in the uk is absolutely shocking! I also lacked so much support and was told so much conflicting information

@Suziesz ok well if you are right and it's 34% then that's still extremely low.

Sometimes I wonder if they’re actually using the breastmilk or just saying they are and using cows milk or white plastic because let’s face it who would know!

Why would they do that? It's no less bother

freezingpompoms · 10/01/2023 12:25

It's not weird at all imo.

If you kept going on about it to people that might be a bit 🙄.

I'm planning on getting something but it'll be for my own pleasure really. I might not go round telling everyone about it as you can see from this thread people feel weird about it (whilst the majority will drink cows breast milk daily with no problem).

Be careful though the rings can't be worn whilst washing up and can spoil so I'm going to go for a pendant.

Suedomin · 10/01/2023 12:25

I dont understand why some people find the idea squeamish.
I have seen some and they are very nice. You don't have tell anyone what they are if you don't want to but you will know.
If you want to get one , get one.

Cas112 · 10/01/2023 12:28

SO weird

well a sneaky part of me thinks they just have a stock of Opal necklaces or similar and dish one out to each customer who orders a ‘breast milk necklace’ 😂

LaLuz7 · 10/01/2023 12:36

Weird as fuck.

Last I heard they do sperm necklaces too now.

zurala · 10/01/2023 12:41

Haven't read the thread.

It's cute! I think it's a lovely idea and it's not like anyone will know what it's made of.

I don't know why people are being so weird about it to be honest.

You really can't compare the two 🙄

Why one makes a baby the other feeds it. It’s all body fluids.

ChocChipOwl · 10/01/2023 12:57

Whatever you do, don't tell your child once they're a teenager you have done this. Pure grim factor

Not grim at all. I'd tell my son

Totally different. Sperm is gross. Breastmilk isn't

Sperm is arguably more essential to growing a baby than breastmilk

I wasn't comparing them.

But if you ask me, semen is only marginally weirder.

Carrying around someone's boob juice is still bizarre.

cocolemonad · 10/01/2023 13:30

I was the same as you I could decided if it was lovely or weird... then I saw the price and decided it didn't matter 🤣

That’s straying into Pearl Necklace territory now.m

I think it's a nice idea and I've been toying with the idea of getting myself a piece of jewellery too.

I was never able to even contemplate directly breastfeeding as my daughter was born with a cleft lip. I expressed for a few weeks until my supply dried up with the stress of it all. I found it incredibly painful to not be able to feed the way I wanted and I froze a small amount of milk as a reminder that I tried my best in the face of some really tough circumstances. The post suggesting it is "smug" has nudged me to go ahead and make the purchase; out of pride for myself, not smugness!

If you like it OP, go for it. You never need to explain to anyone what it is made from and you can just secretly enjoy it yourself. I follow MilkyKeepsakes on Instagram and they make some lovely bespoke pieces.

tillytoodles1 · 10/01/2023 14:14

For those of us who didnt/couldn't breastfeed, I find the idea very smug as if we don't count, even though we have healthy kid s too. Maybe I should get one made from SMA.

Your own hang ups about “not counting” if you didn’t breastfeed doesn’t make someone who is proud of their journey smug. Breastfeeding is difficult and important for many people, and to have managed to breastfeed is an emotional achievement for many.

Get a piece of jewellery made from SMA if your feeding journey and your feelings about it warrant a piece of jewellery in your opinion. That would be a totally legitimate thing to do.

But there’s no need to call others smug.
